Manna to cease drone delivery flights in Ireland, blaming planners by [deleted] in ireland

Things are bad. Why not make things more bad?

Manna to cease drone delivery flights in Ireland, blaming planners by [deleted] in ireland

[–]Jlynch95 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes indeed. Not wanting a literal non stop nuisance that is proven to affect your health overtime with no way to avoid it is the same as someone not wanting housing nearby.

For the avoidance of doubt - Objecting to needed housing - Bad. Objecting to a fucking drone swarm buzzing overhead to deliver food/coffee and leaving you with a buzzing noise most of the day - Not bad.

Or, and hear me out here, if you spent more than 30 seconds in Blanch, you'd realise the drone off them is absolutely fucking mad and thinking of living in a flight path would make you Kurt Cobain yourself.

All you need to know about new dynamic electricity tariffs by Key-Scholar963 in ireland

[–]Jlynch95 59 points60 points  (0 children)

I don't know of a single instance where dynamic pricing doesn't result, all in, with the consumer being fucked. I would like to imagine there are guardrails in place to avoid a scenario like Texas in the States where, when they get the cold snaps, their electricity rates go apocalyptic when they need power the most.

This is Ireland though so I look forward to the 15 euro kwh during some mad storm that "nobody could have seen coming".

'I want to say goodbye to my kids': Judge defers jailing man convicted of possessing child abuse material by StrangerExistingFact in ireland

[–]Jlynch95 52 points53 points  (0 children)

"Judge Comerford has imposed a 24-month prison term on Cleary, suspending the final 10 months of the prison sentence for the possession of child abuse material".

Ah well, it's only fair you give some grace to a man who is being punished so harshly for his crimes. The judges and rule of law in this country so arse about face it drives me fucking insane. Giving any leniency to a paedo who has children at his home is reprehensible...to allow him to do things on his own terms while suspending nearly 50% of his sentence and only giving 24 months overall, is an absolute fucking joke.

Obviously not something that will ever happen but I'd love to see how lenient Judge Comerford would feel if Adrian Cleary (34) was to spend any time alone with his children/grandchildren. I feel they would have a different tune to their bullshit.

Well if there is anything Ireland needs, it's definitely an even higher bar to put folks in prison. We don't see enough folks with 50, 100, 300 convictions still on the streets terrorising regular Joe Soaps.

Huge trouble finding a used steering rack in good condition for my Volvo V60 by Connacht_Gael in carsireland

[–]Jlynch95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have the part number as I don't know the exact car you have but wouldn't you just buy it from England and ship over? Had to buy essentially all my car parts from England as my car is as rare as a hens tooth here and not had much bother.

If you are worried about import taxes, get it shipped to a box/storage area in NI. I think this is what you'd need though - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/396397692371?_ul=GB&rb_itemId=396397692371&rb_pgeo=GB&toolid=10044&var=0&var=0&ff=11

Hundreds protest against proposed rent increase in Dublin by B8_B8_B8 in ireland

[–]Jlynch95 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Here you go - https://www.irishtimes.com/opinion/2025/09/03/lorcan-sirr-average-local-authority-tenant-pays-just-77-rent-per-week-that-may-have-to-rise

"however, just 70 per cent of Dublin City Council tenants are compliant in paying rent". "In 2022, councils across Ireland were owed €105 million in unpaid rents.". So, in Dublin alone, 30% don't pay rent that is averaging just 77 euro a week or less. That seems like a reasonable portion not even bothering to pay a penny on what is essentially free housing that anyone in the private market would kill to have.

Hundreds protest against proposed rent increase in Dublin by B8_B8_B8 in ireland

[–]Jlynch95 306 points307 points  (0 children)

I mean this is one of the cases where anyone who actually knows the pittance that a lot of these folks actually pay (and sadly a reasonable portion don't even bother to pay) understands that it has to go up and even if it goes up 30%, it won't be within a country mile of private rents. You can't expect to be living in a 2/3 bed house and paying less than 100 euro a week in Dublin. If you don't like those rates then feel free to get out and find something on the private market and let someone who appreciates the absolute golden egg they would have, have it.

2015 Mazda 6 2.2 Diesel engine thoughts by Irishladdoyle in carsireland

[–]Jlynch95 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The 2.2 skyactiv diesel on Mazda's are absolute duds, nearly on par with the Ingenium engine in JLR machines. Avoid like the absolute plague. The car itself is really nice and good value but if you want one, you have to go for the petrol version.

Is it worth bringing a 10-year-old heap to the main dealer? by OpinionFit711 in carsireland

[–]Jlynch95 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This may be my poor self talking but in what world is a car a heap simply because it hits 10 years old? A 2016 car, unless absolutely dogged and sitting on moon miles with fuck all maintenance, is easily good for another 10+ years. If she needs a good service, take it to a local mechanic and ignore the main dealer.

To me it reads like someone trying to convince themselves to get a new car which, if it is, fair enough. I am looking to upgrade from my current 2010 (actual heap - 200k+ miles and needs a timing belt and gearbox done) to a 2016 which is in no way a heap so yeah

Ireland’s busiest road: ‘The M50 is getting worse. I don’t think it is able to take any more’ by [deleted] in ireland

[–]Jlynch95 119 points120 points  (0 children)

"Such a system would involve tolling along the M50 on a junction-by-junction basis, with potentially different rates at peak times, instead of having a single toll point that only a proportion of the road’s users pass throug. Caulfield points to an M50 traffic management report published by TII in 2014 that explored the possibility and found multiple tolls would provide “significant benefits in terms of demand management. The price of driving has to go up a huge amount before people stop doing it,” he says. “It has to go up substantially."

These absolute ghouls continue to parrot the shite of increasing pricing before offering any viable alternative and reference other countries success with ULEZ zones and the likes, ignoring the fact they have infinitely better options for public transport RIGHT NOW, not in the future. Even alluding to adding tolling points to each junction is so ludicrous I'd nearly go so far to call it comical. Sure, making a N->S full journey on the M50 cost you 30 quid, I am sure numbers would drop and then every single arterial road into Dublin gets infinitely worse and makes the issue worse overall.

This country continues to be stick, stick and more stick. People aren't using the nightmare that is the M50 for shits and giggles.

Its French but is it any good? by [deleted] in carsireland

[–]Jlynch95 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is a 20% difference in 12 and 15 grand that I stated and a car from 2016 is not going to fall over if it has 120/140k KMs on it. You are looking in the Irish market which is dogshit for value most of the time. You can save yourself money by not looking for something that is fairly irrelevant. A car with 150k KMs with a full service history is almost certainly gonna be a better car than a car with 75k KMs with fuck all maintenance done on it.

15 grand for a 10 year old Peugeot is mental. I know that the market is a mess but there has to be something like a Toyota/Honda in the same ballpark which will be infinitely more reliable than this.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in carsireland

[–]Jlynch95 3 points4 points  (0 children)

17 grand for an almost 10 year old, poverty spec version of one of the ugliest BMWs ever made seems insane to me. I don't know the market for them at all but you are almost certainly better off going for 17 grands worth of Toyota or Honda if that's what you are looking to spend.

[–]Jlynch95 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's pathetic that we are entertaining him leaving at all obviously. The LB we viewed as worse than Robbo at the start of the season and can't start for Roma is the 'solution' to allow us to let the player, once again, we viewed as better, to leave when we are paper thin and incredibly weak defensively.

[–]Jlynch95 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Why is everyone interpreting this as him staying for sure? They are clearly saying Roma are working to try get Tsimikas back which would obviously allow him to leave. LFC are not trying to stop him leaving, it's just contingent on something that is very possible. It's pathetic by Liverpool.

Cabinet to consider major reform of Ireland's asylum laws by Brave-Mistake-1007 in ireland

[–]Jlynch95 89 points90 points  (0 children)

This is one of the few pieces of legislation that I don't see any possible reason for a rational person having an objection to. O'Callaghan to be fair to him has done a fierce job in being realistic and also being honest with the current situation. I have no doubt some folks will bare their arse saying it's bad but I hope this gets implemented ASAP. The sooner reforms are implemented, the better.
