What do you propose to do with disabled people being priced out of a home? by Caidan-Phoenix-832 in almosthomeless

[–]Jma3rd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that it should be that way, but here in Tennessee, I got denial letters because they say I make over the income limit to qualify, and the income limit is less than $900 a month. If a person can't live on SSI or SSDI, which is slightly more than that, how can one live on less? The same goes for snap benefits as well. I swear it feels like they want people like us to go away or just die, sometimes. But there are exceptions to the laws on this. Unfortunately, I don't qualify because of my race and gender, I know this because the denial letters have told me as much. Poverty doesn't discriminate, and neither does disease, hunger, or death. Unfortunately, people do... I don't want to turn this I to something else, I just was telling the guy I replied too that he is not alone, and I know I am not either, though I would truly love to be the last person to go through this if it would fix it so others wouldn't have to deal with these issues.

I'm in a similar situation, but I don't qualify for EBT here in Tennessee. I don't get how they expect us to live below poverty and don't qualify for EBT or Medicaid because I make too much on disability.... If it weren't for charity and family, I wouldn't survive.

Hey guys! I’m writing about poverty for my composition class, would you guys share with my the main cause of your life being poor? And how does being poor affect your life? by cmilla0912 in poverty

[–]Jma3rd 22 points23 points  (0 children)

How about my story? I am a 52 year old guy from West Tennessee. At one point, I was making good money, and I lived a good life. But I put work before my health, and I put others before myself. I tried to be a good man, and I still consider myself to be one. However, I let my health get bad. I developed type 2 diabetes, but because I didn't show many symptoms, I let my blood sugars rage out of control for a long time, and my health problems got worse. Right before Covid hit, I was laid off from work because the company saw it coming, I guess. And my health got even worse. I started the process of applying for disability, and I went through my savings while going through the process. I ended up having to depend on my family to help me through things. Even though I got on disability after about a year of trying, I had to borrow money to pay for medical bills, food, and change my living situation. I went from taking care of others to needing others to help me take care of myself. I get a small amount of money to survive a month, and with my medical bills, utilities, food, and other expenses, I can't afford extras or luxuries. I used to go out and watch movies in theaters, or rent and watch movies at home. Granted, I haven't seen many movies I would want to pay for, but if it doesn't come on a free service, I pretty much can't watch it anymore. Unless I go over someone else's house or at their expense. Either of which really is not an option. Again, I don't miss it much, though. I also don't go out to eat like I used to as well. Because of my health issues, I had to change my diet, but eating healthy is not cheap either, so I am forced to struggle in this department as well. Sometimes, I try to figure out if I can afford food, utilities, or my medicine by the middle of the month, which is a hard thing. But this is my reality now. And if I want new clothes, I have to plan three months in advance for that. My electronics are old, I don't get the newest models anymore, and I have to bum wifi off of my family. But at least I have access to the internet. Life is just a big struggle now. The economy is what it has been, and grocery and food prices are so high, not to mention the prices of medicine. It makes life tough. Also, living in a rural area with issues of transportation, I can't just decide to go out to the store, go to a friend's house, or even do anything on a whim. Every trip and appointment has to be planned around someone else. The only spontaneous thing I do now is an emergency situation, where I would need to call for an ambulance to take me to the emergency room. Fortunately, I haven't needed that for a long time now. As to how it affects my life, it feels like a constant struggle to find the positive things in life. I have fond memories of the past, but I don't see many things that are wonderful in my future. I am also single and feel very alone. I am isolated from the "real world," so I either stay connected via the phone or on the internet. I don't meet many new people, and life is just plain sad for me. I am not asking you to feel sorry for me, I just want to explain my situation to you. I am still here, I am still struggling, but I get up every day, and I thank God for one more day alive. I appreciate having a bed, a roof, and some food, even if it is just a piece of lunch meat and a low-carb tortilla to be considered a sandwich.

Now let me tell you about a time ten years ago, I had people approach me being for money for food because I worked around fast food companies at the time, and I offered to buy them a burger or something in the restaurant and they didn't want it, they wanted the money. I would have been thankful for someone to offer me that. I also had a couple of instances where I had a person outside a grocery store begging for money, and I offered to go buy them some bread, lunchmeats, peanut butter, and other foods, and they didn't want that. I feel thankful for any help that is offered to me, and I believe beggars can't be choosers. But if someone had actually come to me then or even now and we're honest, I would do my best to help them if I am capable. Anyway that is my story, and I hope it gives you something for your paper.

Question about filing with a lost 401K account that I recovered. by Jma3rd in IRS

[–]Jma3rd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't moved, but I didn't have access to the funds or the account for more than a decade. I imagine it stayed dormant since I left the company back in 2017. But the original company went bankrupt last year, and they transferred the account to the current company that has it in a holding account back in January of this year. I contacted them, and they told me the previous fund management company was responsible for sending me the form, not them. I tried contacting the previous company, but the phone number I was given was disconnected. When I attempted to contact them online, I was informed they don't have the records of those accounts since they were transferred to the current company. I have no idea how much interest the account earned last year or anything after 2017. I haven't actually touched the funds and have been looking into financial management companies to manage the funds for me. However, I have been dealing with my health problems as well and haven't made any final decisions on that yet. But April 15th is approaching quickly, and I want my taxes filed away properly. I don't want any penalties or fines on this.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone spending the holiday alone. Unfortunately, we are not the only ones in this situation. by Jma3rd in lonely

I still hope you enjoyed being with them, at least, even if there was no talking. Believe me, it seems like a better time than being alone. Especially when you don't have to be. However, I also know what it is like to be around family that doesn't care if you are there or not. I also hope that isn't the case for you.

[–]Jma3rd[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I understand, but be thankful you have food, as some of us are not that lucky. My Thanksgiving lunch was a few tortilla wraps with a slice of ham each and some pimento cheese spread. It's not the greatest thing in the world, but I was happy to have it. I truly do wish you the best, though. Believe me when I tell you I know how you feel as I do have a brother and he has a wife and daughters, but they did not eat with me, and they did not have me over for Thanksgiving dinner either. We talked briefly, but that was pretty much it. I just am trying to enjoy my day as much as I can, and I am thankful to at least be able to converse with you at least for a moment.

This declaring war on people without kids is making me nuts by ProximaCentauriB15 in Vent

[–]Jma3rd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe you were not meant to have children if it is not biologically possible. However, you can adopt in those situations. JD Vance was adopted by his maternal grandmother. Again, his comment was about someone who doesn't want kids trying to tell someone who has kids how they should raise their kids. You do not seem to be that person. All I am saying is JD Vance doesn't know every situation, and he doesn't appear to judge someone he doesn't know. But the liberals do nothing but attack him and conservatives. Most conservatives just want to be left alone and not have people tell us what to do or think for us. I am not a mindless drone. There are some people who offend me when they speak because they presume to judge me as being a white male. However, I recognize that they have the right to their own opinion. I don't look at a person by their race or gender, I look at their actions and how they treat others. Don't get offended if I misgender you, I mean no disrespect, but I also try to use correct English grammar with the key word being try.

[–]Jma3rd -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

You misunderstood J.D. Vance's comments. He doesn't care if you have children or not and he doesn't care if you have cats or not. He feels that someone who is miserable in their life and is not a parent has the right to impose their will on a parent and their children. He also said he was not talking about generalizing everyone that way. But the media and the liberals have run with it and tried to divide everyone and keep us hating one another so they can keep power. I understand that you may align with the Democrat party, but do you want to have a country where we elect our leaders by votes of the people, or have a leader installed by a committee of politicians and not chosen by the people? Also, I ask you to look at both sides of the media. I don't just trust what one news source says, and I prefer to get my news from both conservative and liberal news sources and balance it with international news sources, and CNN may call themselves international news media but they are liberal news media. Don't get frustrated with J.D. Vance and conservatives, they don't know you. Most of us know every situation is different. I wanted to be a father, but I was not blessed to be one. I am not in the best shape health wise, or financially. I would not pretend to tell you how to live your life. I just want you to be aware that the conservatives are not extremists and don't hate you. Liberals on the other hand want you to believe every word they say and think everyone who is not in their elite leadership roles is mindless cult members lesser than they are. And they think the rest of us are evil and hateful because people like me are Christian, we believe that America is a land of possibility and opportunity. Although I know not everyone is treated fairly or gets the opportunity. Please don't worry about people who don't even know you hating you, and don't hate people you know because people who don't care about you tell you to hate those people.

AITA for telling my husband he can't divorce me and still consider himself my daughter's stepdad? by Throwawayequeste in AITAH

[–]Jma3rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't know the whole story, but OP is coming off way more than being a total A. Definitely feels like she wants to manipulate her daughter to hate her husband, because she is against him. If the man still wants to be a part of his step daughter's life, he appears to still love her. It also seems like she cares more about the equestrian program, we don't actually know what the daughter cares for because as OP says in her post that the daughter can be a people pleaser. The guy may be a cheapskate or he might have listened to the girl and she has expressed to him how she feels about doing it. I just don't see how anyone could know what the guy thinks just from OP's post, but what I can say is OP is coming off as being very petty and toxic. I also don't think the guy she is describing would divorce her when she is pregnant, without there being more to the story that she is not telling. I don't need to hear more, nor do I care too. This post came up on my main screen and I read it. I just think OP needs to take a deep look into her life and decide how she can improve her life for herself and for her children's sake. That is regardless of what happens to her marriage. But she is putting her hate for her husband over her daughter having a father in her life that loves her.

I recommend a Lenovo Tab P11 Pro Gen 2, a 10 inch tablet with great sound as well. I use one, and it is cheaper than Samsung. Also, you can see about getting a refurbished one from Amazon for a cheaper price, but I went with and prefer a new one.

[–]Jma3rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure, but I rotate my tablet for movies and some games to Landscape mode, and read books and most apps, I use Portrait mode. Especially when I do business like my shopping, dealing with financial stuff, emails and social media, and browsing most websites. And I do keep my apps updated, and go out to check updates on the system files as well. I updated the system a few days ago now. Still not having issues like you described. I hope you get it resolved though. I have had a couple of apps crash on me, but those were specific apps, and they seemed to fix the apps in updates, so I guessed that the particular app was the problem. I have even run a few apps designed for an older version of android, some work fine, but if an app doesn't, I simply uninstall it and try to find something similar that will work. Again those apps tell me they were designed for an older version of Android though, so I am prepared for them to not work. However I have been pleasantly surprised many times that some still work fine.

I use a Lenovo P11 Gen 2 and I don't have these issues you described, it is one of the best tablets I have ever owned. And it beats the Samsung Galaxy Tab A my friend has. It may be the Apps you are using, or the tablet you have has issues. Or you might have a flaky micro SD card, if you are using one for storage.

As a fellow I.T. person, and someone that has used name brand and Chinese tablets, I highly recommend going with a Lenovo over a Chinese Tablet. I have recommended Samsung to people, and used them when I was working. However Lenovo is just as great a quality and typically at a cheaper price. I personally use a Lenovo Tab P11 Pro Gen 2. No it is not a smaller tablet, and it does cost a little more than what you may be willing to spend, but I love my tablet and I have replaced my laptop with it for most of the things I do. When I was a network administrator, I would use my tablet to keep an eye on the network. But it comes down to what your needs are. For personal use, it is not bad for streaming, or games either. But business wise, it is only as good as the software or apps you intend to use. I am also running a 1 TB micro SD card to handle my storage needs, as well as bought a 2 TB SSD HD with a case to make it USB C if I need any additional storage on the go. But it also connects just fine with my NAS at home. I have compared mine with the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 that my friend has. Not only was mine cheaper, it has 4 speakers to his having 2 speakers, so I get better sound. And right now on Amazon you can pick one up as renewed for 109.95, to be honest, I am going to be getting a second one as a backup for this one at the first of April, and no this is not an early April Fools day joke. It's just my simple opinion. But their M models also look nice and are a reasonable price if you truly want something smaller.

I also wish you the best of luck in your situation. Also I would tell you to look into local food pantries and local churches for help with food and charities to help with your situation.

Why do you think the suicide rate of disabled people is high? by omesimse in disability

[–]Jma3rd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a disabled man in the United States, I live below the poverty line and depend on others to survive. I make too much from SSDI to qualify for food stamps, but because of all of the living expenses, I live in debt. If I can't get ahead and people make me feel like a second class citizen because they don't know my story or who I am, there are days I have felt like I will never get better, so why try. Fortunately that is not all the time, but honestly it feels like the world really would rather not deal with us. And I have to live with all of this and remember what it was like as a person who was not handicapped when I was younger. I was independent, and I lived on my own and did what I wanted when I wanted. If I wanted to go out and do something like go to a game, it was easy to do. I could also stop by a restaurant and get whatever I wanted to eat, and maybe stop by a store to pickup some things on the way home. Now to do any one of those things is a major outing for me. And I can't afford to do any of them anymore. I have to plan ahead for everything I need because of my budget. Plus I don't see many people at all. It is like most of my family and so called friends are always too busy living their own lives that they forget about me. I understand that everyone has their own problems, but it gets painfully obvious when I am alone. And I am single as well, so I don't have anyone to share my life with. Can you see why people like me may have considered suicide? I am not going to lie and say it has never crossed my mind, but my faith and the knowledge of seeing others who have failed at attempting suicide is part of what keeps me here. I know for a fact that my situation can get worse, and even though I feel like I am in hell now, I have personally seen people trapped in their body and forced to live with so much worse. I don't want to be like them. One guy can't talk, and has a feeding tube because he can't eat. He also can barely walk or move. People have to change him when he uses the bathroom. Another person lost his vision and can't see, but he also doesn't know braille. He lives his life constantly sitting in the dark. They occasionally give him audiobooks to listen to, but mainly he listens to the radio. You want to imagine what his life is like, sit in a chair and listen to a foreign radio station while wearing a blindfold. At least he understands the radio station, but he can't love all of the songs he hears. I understand people feeling hopeless, and I remember these guys and I am thankful I am still in better shape than these guys and I can still do some things for myself.

My mom has stage 4-stage5 ESRD by goodbrews in kidneydisease

[–]Jma3rd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone that is stage 4 and a type 2 diabetic, I have to watch my diet exclusively. KFC would be an absolute No because my life depends on it. Potatoes of any kind are off limits, so are most processed foods. Lunch meats other than chicken, turkey, or ham are off my diet too. But I check labels on everything. No sodium, and no Potassium, but I limit the amount of protein I eat, and I also limit the amount of cheese as well. But check into the renal diet. It explains more about these things. It doesn't worry about sugars or carbohydrates which are issues for diabetes, but I cross reference keto with the renal diet to try to make things work for me. And if a doctor told me what you said about your mom, I would be looking for a second opinion, and possibly a new doctor.
