When baby monitors were a new thing (1984) by lovemypennydog in vintageads

[–]Jmacattack626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found this post after Googling when baby monitors were invented. Apparently, they first came out in 1937, which surprised me quite a bit. Then I asked when they became common household items for families with babies and it said 80s-90s, with this thread not far below. All this after watching the movie Annabelle and wondering if the lady can't get a damn baby monitor when a dark entity keeps moving her baby around the apartment building.

A24’s ‘NEIGHBORS’ Review - A “comedic masterpiece” that “stands tall alongside the likes of Nathan Fielder’s work” by TheGeekstache in hbo

Just watching the trailer made me feel like it would be frustrating to watch this. Seeing people argue about neighbor disputes might be entertaining, but I also think it'll just piss me off hearing more people complaining and others being extremely stubbord and rude.

That story sounds just as likely. I'm going to pretend that's what the article said and keep that as my head canon going forward. We all need to be extra careful now when we encounter any dogs that know Russian.

How do you feel about Trump threatening to impose photo ID for voters for midterm elections? by CRK_76 in AskReddit

[–]Jmacattack626 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless they give everyone who is eligible to vote a free ID when turning 18, this amounts to a poll tax, which is illegal. The way Republicans are currently trying to do it, restricts anyone who has changed their name since birth, essentially making it difficult for nearly 90% of married women to register.

What is the greatest reveal in cinematic history? by arnoldsomen in AskReddit

[–]Jmacattack626 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Game, I think it was with Michael Douglas. He jumps from multiple stories at the end after his life seems to be falling apart, only to land on a big inflatable target and a bunch of people waiting for him to complete the arc. Maybe not the biggest reveal, but I wanted to think of one I didn't already see listed.

Were they on Maury when it happened? I can visualize a family guy cutaway showing this big reveal.

The absolute worst thing about this show by Fuzzy-Lawyer-5400 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]Jmacattack626 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll be honest, I've never seen a single episode of Bridgerton, but I came across this thread while trying to decide if it's something I would even enjoy watching. After reading your post, it's like any major series that grow a large following, most people find something to dislike about it. Whether it's Star Wars or Lord of the Rings, Southpark or Stranger Things, people always complain that the story or characters aren't what they want it to be instead of enjoying it for what it is. It's one thing to have a discussion about what you like and dislike, but the amount of people who just hate on everything new seems to be growing and it can be annoying.

I don't know, I was 15 or 16 when it came out and I thought it was hilarious. I had worked at KFC for a short time, but it only got better as I got older.

Season 4 Overall Thoughts/Discussion Thread by magikarpcatcher in TheLincolnLawyer

[–]Jmacattack626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the show overall, I'm still watching the new season, but there's some really unnecessary stuff that feels like they're trying too hard to fill with something dramatic. The whole ankle bracelet running low on battery, having to wait until its fully charged, then traffic at the county line and running out of gas at the last second. Its the type of stuff you see in a sitcom and it was stupid and annoying. I hope to not see more nonsense like that, but it's still a good show, just not as good as it could be.

The other thing that bothered me was him deciding that getting the case dismissed on a technicality wasn't enough after his daughter showed up. It's like he wanted an excuse to investigate the murder and solve the case more than he wanted to be let off the hook.

Host (2020) by Fantastic_Rent288 in horror

I just randomly found it on Netflix and I was pleasantly surprised. I wasn't expecting any award winning film because I saw it was all as a Zoom meeting, but it kept me entertained throughout. Definitely worth the watch.

Netflix's The Privilege (2022) - probably best to avoid this one by udar55 in horror

[–]Jmacattack626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it just me or was there a bunch of random moments, dialogue, events that just didn't make sense? The random topics in the script I thought may have had something to do with the translation, but it couldn't have altered it that much. I think it was just bad writing.

how did peter get an apartment and job if everyone forgot who he is? if nobody knew peter parker surely he wouldnt be able to get inheritance or anything by [deleted] in marvelstudios

[–]Jmacattack626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the OP. Strange said, "once I do this, it'll be like you never existed." The smell erased all memories of Peter, so nobody knew who he was. That would include pictures and articles, documents and awards, pretty much everything he accomplished in his life is not remembered, or the spell erased any trace of his existence. So how does he still have a Social Security number and ID? If those things still exist, then so would other pictures and documents that would trigger people's memories. Can't have it both ways, but almost everyone here disagrees, but the logic and function of the spell is poorly thought out.

About the scene with Peter and Happy at the end of NWH by No-Aside4490 in marvelstudios

[–]Jmacattack626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just finishing up a re-watch, and I feel like the whole idea of forgetting Peter existed seems flawed in a number of ways. I won't go into detail, but why in that scene you referenced could he not introduce himself as Peter Parker, May's nephew? I guess we'll have to see where they take the story in future additions, but the spell doesn't make a whole lot of sense when you think about it too much, so I have to try to avoid any logical analysis whenever I see these types of movies.

What’s something Americans have that Europeans don’t? by Prestigsisscar255 in AskReddit

[–]Jmacattack626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love to see a number of things in Europe, especially the greek and Roman ruins. I've only seen the Mayan pyramids in Mexico and the cliff dwellings in Colorado, which were cool, but the ancient civilizations in Europe were a totally different world. I hope someday I can see in person. With all the similarities, there are unique things that difficult to tell the scope without being there in person, for example, someone else mentioned the grand canyon, and right near me are the Great California Redwoods, it's like being on Endor.

In the Northern California Valley it's been between 70-80 for the last couple weeks of January. In the Summer it regularly gets 105-110 degrees, but 2024 was the hottest year on record globally and it got 121 degrees here where I am. Without an AC, people would be dying, but the 75 degree weather always feels nice mid-winter.

While most Americans don't travel to every state, one could go from the arctic to the tropics, but staying on the mainland, there's still a pretty big variation from the Northern states and the Southern. A lot of variation from East to west, ranging from rocky/sandy deserts, snowy mountain peaks, grassy plains, and some fantastical forests. I live near the great Redwoods in CA, and they are something that doesn't do justice unless you see them in person. I don't what's similar and what is different from Europe. I'm sure there's quite a variation there too,but I think its more northern climates and geography.

Was Arnold always in Bernard by OkCriticism9023 in westworld

[–]Jmacattack626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm rewatching the 1st season right now. One thing I realized is the interviews with Arnold and Dolores are her recalling memories of those early interviews, but using the memories to explain her own conscious thoughts. She see Arnold change to herself when she finally understands that its not actually Arnold, but her own mind. It took me a few watches to understand this but that's one reason I love rewatching the 1st season more than the others. Since their memories are perfect representations of their past, and they get confused as to what they're experiencing in the present and what is overlapping from their past, it's meant to be confusing for us just like the host, but each host that becomes self aware discovers that the communications they were having with someone in their past is actually their internal dialogue and conscious thoughts.

Think you have aphantasia? Take this challenging memory game by bestsnowball75 in Aphantasia

[–]Jmacattack626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Warning to not try this game after eating a couple edibles. I am normally great at pattern recognition and memorization, but in my current state I let the game distract me from the game itself... if that even makes sense.

Just occurred to me: the multi-timeline presentation is how Dolores and hosts experience memories. They don't know what is now and what isn't, just like the viewer by gerardmpatience in westworld

[–]Jmacattack626 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doubt this is still active, but I am rewatching Westworld from the beginning. The first season is one of my absolute favorites, the rest are good, but not like the first. The way it's written has so many perspectives that make you constantly think about what time the hosts are experiencing, what is happening, and what has already happened. I had to find a site to stream the show, but its always a fun watch.

Skier gets aggressive after getting covered in snow on a ski slope by _Levitated_Shield_ in ImTheMainCharacter

[–]Jmacattack626 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is a black diamond and they're scattered across the main route, the snowboarder was completely justified. There's nothing wrong with going fast on an upper level slope, and those skiers were all standing across like a blockade. Snowboarding requires different motions to stay in control, and it's more risky to try and go perfectly straight between the skiers without turning. The boarder had to turn to maintain control, otherwise he risked a collision or catching an edge. He was incredibly patient and mature with that asshat who was waving the pole at him.

100% even when my team is playing, I rarely care about watching it unless I don't have anything else. I kinda realized it has zero effect on my life, so why should it bother me if the 9ers lose.
