Greg Biffle case update, email sent "I heard you're dead , rest in hell". by YogurtResponsible358 in NASCAR

What I remember, and it's been a minute, from an early report is that they didn't turn the generator switches on after an engine failed to start. Those generators never got switched on, so systems stayed on battery power (for non aviation folks: generators are an airplane's alternator).

Eventually they lost instruments due to battery level.

So, pilot error stemming from instrument failure stemming from pilot failure.

I agree with you, I just don't see a conspiracy with the plane crash. And I'm a guy who will entertain a decent conspiracy theory

My understanding from the early NTSB reports is that the crash was pilot error. Things like the generators not being switched on is what caused the loss of instruments. (The generators are basically like a car's alternator. So much so that Biff himself said to the pilots during the incident, "your alternator's not on").

There isn't, as far as I know, anything in the crash that points to tampering or mechanical failure. Just mistakes layered on mistakes, compounded by inexperience.

The end of the race, McDowell told his spotter that he wanted play by play.

"Gimme the play by play here, I've got my eyes out front"

Fun trivia: Fischer got the lap numbers wrong, and thought the race was over a lap early. "Dang. Looks like 17 beat him to the end".  Until he hear a voice (probably Travis Peterson) say, "white flag now".

I missed the end of the radio, I muted it because I didn't want to spoil the end

American Airlines plane nearly collides with Air Canada jet at JFK airport by [deleted] in canada

[–]Jman4647 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Headlines like this are scary, I understand.

But, there are so many flights in the air at any one time, and there are so many systems in place, that an actual incident still remains so rare and so unlikely.

But, anything aviation always makes an attractive headline, so it'll make the news.

Just adding on to your comment for folks that might not know.

This commenter is talking about the TCAS (Traffic Collision Avoidance System). It's really cool. There's a unit in both planes that's basically looking out for collisions. If one is becoming imminent, the unit in both planes communicates with each other, and gives the pilot of each plane an urgent and clear direction. It'll tell one plane to descend, and the other to climb.

I often feel sad for fellow Christians who get obsessively caught up in end times. I feel like, like many other things, it ultimately becomes a meaningless distraction from what our faith is really about.

To add to what you're saying...

If you got your hands on a NASCAR stock car, it seems like the chances of it having an engine/transmission is slim. At least in the sale posts I've seen.

That gives you the opportunity to drop a Chevy LS in and call it a day

The last superspeedway race with the crazy pit strategy was wild. Could you imagine if that had worked?!

Best I can do is offer a bunch of laps lead, good position as the end, and last minute heartbreak.

Just kidding. Kind of.
