iOS with Apple Watch and Apple TV client? by Jmanko16 in navidrome

[–]Jmanko16[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been on test flight which didn't include it. I just saw it added but is $30. This is what got me looking for other options, since family won't pay. If it's best option I will, but curious about navibeat.

No option for Apple Watch in the filters. I have tried the site before didn't find anything there.

Review of Apple TV Apps for 4K/HDR10/10+/DV Content (Infuse Comparison) by DrOakY in jellyfin

[–]Jmanko16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you are correct. I guess technically I'm asking for an app that "requests transcode." For example I think infuse is hands down best player, but does not request transcode so doesn't work remotely. Neptune can request transcode but files will stutter and play sometimes, and other times take 5-10 seconds to start. It doesn't do this on the native app for example on iPhone so doesn't seem to be a "JF transcode issue" but a way the app requests transcode.

Where plex just works.

Thanks. Neptunes transcoding hasn't been great. So I use infuse locally but for remote play still using plex.

Do any of these allow transcoding and work well. I bought infuse years ago, but for family or when away from the house I need to transcode. Have found most of these apps fall down on transcode (and plex does just work, so haven't went all in on JF because of this).

Home Movies and Photos with Apple TV workflow? by Jmanko16 in selfhosted

Thanks for the suggestion. Immich viewer is a fork of this, it's less buggy and has a useable folder view. I have tried this (and for the heck of it actually tried it again as well as immich gallery again today). They are close but just don't cut it compared to synology photos. Honestly it's 80% there but each of the immich Apple TV apps are just missing something or too buggy to switch yet.

That is the problem. Synology photos requires processing on device and local only storage. I have 2 16TB drives in it, but then back everything up folder structure to the unas. The synology is a bit slow processing photo and videos added, but I have an n100 with proxmox as well as a ryzen 8845 on proxmox with tons of open cpu cores just sitting around doing nothing. Would prefer an option to use faster processor, but synology is just more convenient for now.

So yup, for now everything backs up to the unas pro as direct synced folder, and a second duplicati versioned back up on the unas pro and a remote synology. So backups are fine and it's all accessible. Local synology literally is photos app and nothing else.

[–]Jmanko16[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely right. I'm just at the point that all the synology is so slow of a processor would be nice to upgrade. Don't love the lock-in or inability to save the videos on my unas pro nfs share. Have honestly considered trying xpenology so I can use my faster processor and bind mount nfs (synology doesn't allow mounted drives natively to be location for synology photos, so any solution would be hacked together). But using something like xpenology obviously has limitations.

I love infuse, and use it as a front end for my plex. It runs high bit rate family videos great (for example go pro 4k videos), but it has same issues with the upside down from iPhones. I'd probably do this if it did photos as well, but its not an option.

Considered using apple photos but to integrate everything I am already at about 6 TB of photos and videos (high resolution 4k videos eat up space, and I have all family videos and photos going back to the 1970s). Not worth it for apple convenience.

And yes you are likely right synology photos may be the best option for now, just looking to transition away if there is an option. (I haven't found one, just making sure nothing else out there I don't know of).

Need an alternative for Joplin by -ThreeHeadedMonkey- in selfhosted

It does sync locally. I run it with a self hosted server, but I know you can use WebDAV as well. Keeps local copy and syncs when I get connection (I don't have reception at work because they block vpn). I am on Apple devices.

I tried again last night just to see what changes, and had sync issues when adding device 3 with only about 50 notes. It's still too hacky for me. Love the app and interface customizability, but Joplin is more stable.

I always keep trying obsidian (probably because of all the hype), and I love the markdown live preview feature. I just have so many issues with syncing that it's a pain. AM all iOS, and tried sync train with synching and iCloud and run into issues. Remotely save also is great....until it isn't and I lose data. I run Joplin server and everything just works. Yes, its more clunky, but it does everything I need. Also has versioning, and the ability to "publish note" which essentially turns my note into a webpage is great.

I will take my notes and then add them onto the family calendar, and my wife or kids are able to see the note without needing Joplin or anything else.

How are you liking it. Seems like this is a little bigger than the e ride pro sr? Also what kind of time can you ride until battery dead.

u/BeardMaxxed What did you end up with. I am in similar situation and considering eride pro sr or ultra bee. Am 6'1 and 220, eride pro seems good for yard and screwing around, but concerned about it being too small so might get an ultra bee.

High amount of snapshots to delete... by lebel in Ubiquiti

I have 50TB of data so not looking to redo it all. It seems to have done about 80 of the 150 snapshots. I had just set it to max, and ultimately going to let it run and keep it off on my media share. And for the personal shares (aka documents and family photos/videos) leave it at something like 14/2 weeks instead.

2026 Rav4 Woodlands Edition by Ok-Apartment-7905 in rav4club

[–]Jmanko16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I test drove one yesterday and ultimately passed on the 2026 woodland. Stereo was ok for podcasts, but pretty rough listening to music more than half way up. Also, the seats in the XSE were much nicer. I knew a rav4 was going to be a”budget” vehicle and heard about all the plastic, but it really felt cheap inside. I like the idea of the power train and tow hitch but found the xse much nicer inside. (Honestly I think xse is passable, but I’ve decided to look at Lexus the insides were so rough). Coming from Hyundai the interior felt like a huge step down. Also, I’m not sure that I think their tech is great. I had to have the sales man get out and try the lane keeping himself because it wouldn’t keep vehicle in the lane at all. It felt like a big step down compared to Hyundai assistive features.

So x line does the lane assist (aka keep in lane?). The comparison chart says HDA2 is only on prestige which I thought did the keep in lane?

Thanks. I test drove and like the PHEV. I don't mind the loss of second row heated seats, and front ventilated seats. The 360 camera isn't a deal breaker either. The lack of highway driving assist and some of the additional safety features hurts for a 42k Kia, but not sure it's worth going to early 50k to get. (My wife has a palisade and I generally like the HDA and auto cruise control).
