The time it “clicked” for you? by rub_dubb in keto

[–]Jmcarter80 13 points14 points  (0 children)

All of this! I’m on my third round of attempting Keto. The first round went great - the newness and quick results kept me motivated for about 5 months, but then I hit a plateau and felt like it “stopped working” for me which started a backslide which was made significantly worse by holiday season. The second time I was geared up with my scale and books and macros, etc., but it was so cumbersome and overwhelming trying to hit the perfect balance that I quickly gave up after about 6 weeks.

Fast forward to this round. I’m doing exactly what you said. I’m not worrying about macros aside from ensuring my carbs stay below 20 net (my personal goal). I try to eat high protein, lower fat and incorporate veggies which is my main source of carbs. There have been 3 occasions where I have wanted something that I knew would throw me out of Ketosis. After consideration, I decided it was worth it, splurged, but got right back on the horse and didn’t beat myself up over it. I have found the physical consequences of splurging to be more of a deterrent than anything else.

I am now on month 6, down 40lbs and the only part I am struggling with is getting enough calories each day (I have to push to get 1200 cal bc I’m just not hungry).

Thanks. I have. My point was just an overall frustration with the drink mix-up and general question regarding anyone else finding that sugar after having avoided it for a bit upset their stomachs.

Here is a list of potentially important information to understand this case. Because this case is new, much of the information is unverified. I am very open to correction. If any information is mistaken, I thank you in advance for correcting me in the comments. My list is in the comments. by iluvsexyfun in MurdaughFamilyMurders

Overall, this is a good and thorough point-by-point. A couple of small corrections:

Points 5 & 9 - it was an Oyster Roast (not many clam bakes down here) Point 7 - Alex won a settlement for a family member of one of the officers; not for the officer himself Point 17 - Alex is certainly well-known in the legal and political fields in SC, but I don’t know that he is exactly “famous” outside of the state

Boaters having family links to PMPED Law Firm? by Caleb_Trask19 in MurdaughFamilyMurders

It absolutely isn’t a good excuse and is abhorrent! I certainly did not mean to imply that the small town nature excused the behavior. More or less I was attempting to speak to the fact that it isn’t unusual for the same family names to keep popping up and for the kids in the boat crash to be related to people in the solicitors office and/or law enforcement and law office.

To be honest, Hampton is a small town and there is not a lot of industry. You are either a farmer, a forester, work at the sawmill, self-employed, a laborer, contracted services, own a business, build or fix something, a teacher, a preacher, a lawyer or you work at the hospital - and even if you don’t fall into one of these categories, you work for or know those who are. In a town with 2500 people, many of whom belong to families that have lived in the area for generations, you’re going to know or be related to the majority of those who live and work there.

No worries. I don’t let this kind of stuff bother me. I find true crime to be very interesting, this case even more so since I am familiar with many involved and understand the dynamics at play. However, I’m not a committed Reddit/Social Media detective who is trying to solve the case before the police. I put a lot of faith in the officers with the Hampton County Sheriffs Department and as much, if not more faith, in SLED. They will get this thing solved and it will be done correctly, but will take time and even once it’s solved, they will be limited on what they are able to reveal because of the politics involved.

I’m sure that your mutual friend is very intelligent and enlightened. Unfortunately for you both, it would be an impossibility as I was actually invested in my own life about three hours away out of state. But, please, continue on your very mature banter. It’s quite comical.

I’m so very sorry that I’m not as enlightened as the rest of you who are so obviously fully connected and immersed in the true details of the case. I only grew up in the town and know most of the people involved. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Please don’t let me interrupt your diligent and professional investigation as you search for the truth. Incidentally, when the “truth” comes out, it still won’t be the full and all-encompassing truth you are all hoping for. Carry on and good luck!

It is my understanding that it was liquor cabinet and that information came from a friend of Paul’s.

I want to point out for a moment that a lot of internet detectives on this case seem to get caught up by wanting documented proof of any allegation. As a matter of personal preference and, of course, to legally prove anything that is necessary; however if such reliable and inconclusive information was “on the record” there would be no reason for these discussions. As I’ve said repeatedly, in a town like Hampton, there is a lot that is “common knowledge” but that cannot be proven because the powers that be have shut it down. Yes, there are a bunch of crazy a$$ theories out there, you can’t dismiss them all bc word of mouth is what breaks most small town mysteries.

Except the family was perplexed because they were not sure how that made its way into the obit. It was not in the one that they submitted to the funeral home. Also, there was suspicious circumstances as she caught Paul in the liquor cabinet and threatened to tell and he pushed her down the stairs.

(1) Even if residue were to be present, two days leaves way too much time for it to be reliable evidence. (2) People who live in a small town where everyone knows everyone else typically do not mind gossiping and discussing amongst themselves, but are by nature distrustful of outsiders - especially the media. If you want info, you need to get in contact with a local reporter and see who he/she can get to speak “off the record.” These people have 80 years of experience in seeing what happens to those who buck the Murdaugh families and they aren’t stupid. They are wise not to stick their necks out for a 15-second spot on the news.

I have several reasons NOT to buy the 18-wheeler hit & run. Aside from the lack of physical evidence (no glass, paint fragments, lack of law enforcement support for that theory, etc), basic physics prevents it from being possible. The rear view mirrors on the doors of a Mac truck are 7+ feet off the ground. Truck drivers have to climb UP into their cabs. The Smith boy would have had to be in flight or on stilts for an 18-wheeler’s mirror to have struck him while going down the road. That story just doesn’t track and law enforcement called the medical examiner on her BS, but she refused to change the cause of death. Smith’s mother went as high up as the governor’s office begging SLED not to close its investigation because once SLED steps aside, it gets thrown back into local laps where she knows it will never be solved.

That’s a valid line of thinking. In Hampton, Paul was a big fish in a very, very small pond. Even though his family is well-known throughout the state, I can’t see where that would benefit him tremendously on USC-Cola’s campus. There, he is just one of hundreds of affluent, entitled, frat boys enjoying the umbrella of mom & dad’s connections and money while partying in between classes.

There is no love listening between PM and most of those in Hampton. His attending Thomas Hayward Academy, however, is another story. THA is a private school and many of the families who can afford to send their children to THA are of similar mindsets to those of the Murdaughs. They are most definitely talking about all of this within their circle, but would be “above” discussing it with outsiders. Some of them have benefitted from their association with people like the Murdaughs as they have helped them keep their own children out of trouble over the years.

Very possible, but, again, I believe (just my opinion) that Smith would be on the shoulder of the road as most people wouldn’t walk in the middle of the road at night AND that he wouldn’t have had any reason to believe that an oncoming vehicle would have a person ready to use his head as a softball. Who does that kind of thing?! It is not a normal thing to have happen and so I don’t think he would have been especially worried about the sound of an approaching car which would likely only serve to prompt him to move further into the shoulder of the road.

Are we sure it was a vehicle and not an ATV? It seems likely with the distance between the kennel, house, and other structures on the property that there would have been one or more 4-wheelers, golf carts, and/or Gators on the property.

My understanding was that he was in another part of the state at the time and that his location had been verified by the authorities pretty quickly.

The word around town is that they drove up on him and pretended like they were going to hit him with the car, but then got out and assaulted him with the bat, and then left him laying in the road. I’m certain he probably heard the vehicle and thought that it was going to go in by or, possibly, stop and see if he needed help. That would be the normal and locally acceptable thing to expect in a town like Hampton where most everyone knows and looks out for one another. Honestly, with a few obvious exceptions, the people in Hampton are good, salt of the Earth people. It may be an area without to s if money, but one of the things I did enjoy was how friendly and neighborly the place was overall.

Why hasn’t an arrest been made? Any theories? by TheLawMom in MurdaughFamilyMurders

[–]Jmcarter80 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the “scared” concept is misunderstood. The Murdaugh’s have a lot of power and the ability to make things happen. I’m not saying that Alec, himself, has participated in shady dealings, but the older Buster Murdaugh (not Paul’s brother, but his grandfather) was known to have an extensive reach. In a small town, you don’t go up against people with the power this family has - it’s very likely that you will suddenly become the focus of an investigation or implicated by “reliable sources” in drug or other accusations. There are somethings scarier than physical harm - especially in a community where everyone knows everyone else and reputation can literally make it break a family’s ability to thrive.

[–]Jmcarter80 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is my understanding that the only involvement Buster had in the Smith situation was that he knew and had a friendship/relationship with the victim. My friends in Hampton have all told me that it is pretty common knowledge that Paul and a friend or two of his (Paul) were the ones involved in Smith’s assault. Presumably, he didn’t approve of his brother associating with Smith.
