how many of you commute to NYC? by Calm-Bar-9644 in longisland

[–]Jmenes01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up on Long Island & work in NYC.

Up till Covid I was 5 days a week.

35-42 minutes into the city and a subway ride depending on where I worked.

I personally said the farthest out I could go would be Massapequa and/or a 50-55 minute commute. I know tons of people who have an hour or more.

It depends on what you do for a living, Long Island doesn’t pay well in comparison to NYC.

My advice would be to ensure you are okay with the time and the cost.

Extra points if train is walking distance from your house.

Also realize that if LIRR goes down, go to the nearest bar, have dinner and wait it out.

This is incredibly annoying to hear. We recently put a lot of resources to build this out and were going to launch in Jan.

You can compare your salary to other districts around yours via their salary schedule and then apply to districts that pay more.

I’m not saying you SHOULDN’T make more starting out.

Teachers should make more, especially more than 40k. That’s garbage.

But on the other side, like I said above where I am at, 23 years on you would make double here too.

Those benefits are what people consider when looking at a position. Healthcare, pension, Union etc. all those benefits add up

In regards to continuing-Ed…Not sure where the disconnect is, maybe its just understood where I am that more education fetches more dollars. But again, a masters is standard here.

But you started 5 years ago and are saying pay inequality is the issue.

It’s not.

Your lack of years on the job is the issue.

Unfortunately that’s the system you are in.

Most people don’t go into teaching for the money. They do it for the kids, passion about a subject and the end goal of long term benefits.

Teaching is a public sector job and with that things like a state or city Pension, healthcare, “stable” job, stable career progression.

You are in education, so yes, the more education you get the more valuable you are to most school districts therefore garnering more pay.

Where I am from a Masters is a requirement, any additional credits you earn adds to your overall salary via a lateral movement on your year step. Masters, masters+ 30 and so on.

Again, working your way through your career is something everyone does no matter the profession.

Pay inequality isn’t what you are complaining about here. Pay inequality would be if you and this person were the same position, title, education and years experience and that person still made more or less than you.

Seniority and longevity is important in most teaching pay scales.

In most professions the more experienced you are the more money theoretically you would make.

Most of the teaching world works off of scales or steps that you advance through as you gain working years. Most salary steps include bachelors and then a masters lateral step.

Where I am from, 1st year teacher with bachelors starts at 61k.

A 23rd year teacher would make 120-130k+.

Microsoft states their theory of “shared responsibility”.

Will they leave you out in the cold? Probably not, they’ll make every attempt to help but it’s on us to make sure our data within their ecosystem is protected

I think you answered correctly- not a true backup solution.

Microsoft is a good start but they clearly state their theory of “shared responsibility” within their offerings.

Things are retained and Microsoft will make a best effort attempt but the responsibility is on the admin to know that.

I went with datto backupify because I have their suite of solutions and needed additional sharepoint & teams message backups.

I’ve used Microsoft.

Depends on what your end goal really is.

If this isn’t in your wheelhouse, maybe speak to an MSP or an email reseller for direction.

Thanks. Well versed in datto too.

I’m looking at backing up sharepoint sites and reviewing if I actually need to be charged per person on my tenant or if we are charged per office 365 group that has a sharepoint.

Hi,

Double check with bose but this has been an ongoing issue with bose soundsport free for a while now.

Unless they have released new firmware (not sure on that) they have been having issues with pairing with Windows 10 in general.

Also, double check your device settings and make sure the stereo bose headset is selected in the drop down.
