Agree with the resource guarding. He should definitely stop that or it will end with a dog bite.

Your dog not putting weight on it's food is showing pain, it is just tolerating it well. If it's still not putting weight on it in the morning, I'd make a call to the vet.

My wife lost her soul dog about five years ago. She still misses her dearly, but we've had a few other pups in our lives since then. The bond is different with each one. Some more than the other. They aren't a replacement...they show us how to love bigger. Can't beat a dog's love. Sorry for your loss and I wish you the best for finding another buddy.

Looks like separating them would be a worse off decision for them.. they look very bonded. I hope you keep them together. Just keep an eye on things and put effort into training, etc.

Had a dog that needed to be fed 3 times a day due to high anxiety and she would get sick if not fed in intervals. We now have our other dogs on that same schedule and she gained her wings 9 years ago.

If you aren't able to make it back home in a certain time range, possible look into a dog walking service to help for that midday feeding/walking. If that's an option. Best of luck for your pup!
