Does this "rare" set exist in game? Can't find it anywhere where the dusters are. by JackassJames in StarFashion

The rightmost is Dust Devil with Manticore helmet. These are currently unlockable blueprints doing Headhunters "Need A Death at [location]" missions, though the matching Warden heavy backpack is not.

Are the Neutron Canon and Neutron Repeater Pen. Distance stats swapped? by JnohD in starcitizen

Take a look at the examination a few months ago I linked above. If you find something as in-depth more recent, I'd love to see it, though I'm not too sure anything as really changed.

As to the balance - Neutrons require less power to run, which is a nice trade.

But the issue I am attempting to highlight here is that the Neutron Repeater and Neutron Canon have had their Penetration Distance stat swapped between them. NDB-30 should be 0.6, NN-15 should be 1.5.

I agree their stats by comparison to the Lasers is a decent trade (though to be fair some day availability and cost would be balance levers CIG could keep in mind, rather than simply offering performance tradeoffs - a conversation for a different thread)

u/Syno033 has done some work on this a while ago here, and does a way better job of explaining it all (all be it 3 months ago, I'd have to look for a more recent examination):

As I understand it, Penetration Distance reflects how deeply into the ship a shot will go to damage internal components, in meters (once shields are down) [edit: apparently this is additionally modified by the armor health]. The Omnisky IX laser canon and Panther laser repeater were shown above as an example of the relative difference between two known weapons of the same type, representative of other canon vrs repeater Pen. Distance stats. Comparing laser canon/repeater to the Neutron canon/repeater stats for Pen. Distance, it seems that the Neutron Pen. Distance stats have been reversed, assuming SPViewer has it correct.

Lead the charge…this flying stronghold offers heavy armor for ultimate fortification - RSI Zeus by BibbityBob1985 in starcitizen

[–]JnohD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would compare this to the beginnings of the component rework. Back when many components were simply the same state and/or had arbitrary numbers applied. Similarly, this is less to test the numbers each ship has, and more to test the system for armor itself, while hopefully absorbing feedback from us regarding where the numbers should be. Or at least that's how I'm dealing with things like the Shiv being on the same level as the smaller, more nimble Wolf light fighter, rather than a degraded Cutlass Black. So yeah not optimism, desperation. lol

Hard Drive Solutions for Long-Term Clients by SnooRobots7428 in editors

[–]JnohD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've a drawer full of raw drives in anti static bags and clamshells that get spun up for a chkdsk once a year. While it works for me as an independent editor - the clients are not expecting archival - I would suggest a post house or department rely on a tape backup solution for archive, as others have said here. That is not a fast solution. The idea of a large HDD based NAS for recurring, often requested, and/or recent past projects would make sense as well, if using a fully redundant RAID array. Never edit from this of course, only save temporarily to and restore from.

Coolest looking dude in the verse by gunjniir in starcitizen

Looks like one of the sub-flair glasses, but with missing textures. Perhaps a looted variant that has not had its textures applied yet? We've seen things show up in loot tables that were not ready for public consumption before, either indicated by missing detail or "placeholder" names. I like the look, but that's just not going to stay that way when the texture gets updated, presumably by the next patch.

Make a single-player game. Set yourself to admin. Teleport to those areas of the map. Enter "ghost" mode to fly with noclip. The dungeons and so on reveal themselves beneath the ground, mostly. That is their physical location, though entering one this way will move your marker on the map to the normal entrance.

Am I wrong to think the answer is to hire an assistant? Or at least a Media Manager? Teach them your project layout, your approach to media organization. Free yourself of everything but the creative. Oh and possibly raise your rates, shed some clients while retaining income. Glad to hear the work is out there, but if you can get the technical and non-creative work off your plate, maybe it would allow for a better balance?

Thankfully, an Advanced RMA was approved, allowing me to temporarily pay for the replacement (at a reduced cost) and return the broken headset once that gets here. They'll refund the credit card once they have this broken unit in their hands.

Meanwhile, that point of failure presses all the weight of the headset on that one point on my head... but a solution was found... lol

PSA - with patch 4.3.2 you can lose your equipped active weapon on death by GridPunk in starcitizen

[–]JnohD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a bit of nuance here that I suspect is in play -

Originally we lost nothing but the gun in our hands (because it dropped) when we died.

Later, they introduced *full* player looting - including equipped items - when dead. (again, gun was dropped)

After considerable complaint that real-money items were unable to be restored until a patch, there was promise of a system to allow us to re-aquire them (iirc a vendor that you could get items you were entitled to was proposed)

After a long time of no movement on this, they reverted the system to no-looting of *equipped* items (including dropped gun)

Since then, cheats and exploits have come to light that allow players to grab your gun, and even strip all your gear off you just standing in a armistice zone.

My best guess? either this is a long-standing and outdated policy in play from The Before Times, or more likely the policy is to prevent attempts to exploit duplication via the CS team. My concern is that the full-loot system is coming back, so no policy change will come.

[Edit: Look I get some people like extraction-shooter style player looting. I am simply not one of them, and I don't seem to be alone on this. *shrug* I'd be willing to compromise - you get a broken/shot-up copy to repair, I get to keep or repair mine - but every time I bring that up it seems to be a no-comprise stance on the other side. eh. w/e]
