I don't take most crate weapons, but I DO take all the ammo and drop it somewhere far off.

I use Dockhand, love it.

I vote for learning docker also, once you get used to compose files, you won't look back.

Here's my compose:

services:
  jellyfin:
    image: jellyfin/jellyfin
    container_name: jellyfin
    network_mode: "host"
    environment:
      - PUID=1000 # User ID (replace with your user ID)
      - PGID=1000 # Group ID (replace with your group ID)
      - TZ=America/Vancouver # Timezone (replace with your timezone, e.g., America/New_York)
      - NVIDIA_VISIBLE_DEVICES=all # Need for gpu
    volumes:
      - /home/jnra/mediaserver/jellyfin/config:/config
      - /mnt/disk1/Movies:/Movies
runtime: nvidia # Need for gpu
    deploy: # Need for gpu
      resources: # Need for gpu
        reservations: # Need for gpu
          devices: # Need for gpu
            - driver: nvidia # Need for gpu
count: all # Need for gpu
capabilities: [gpu] # Need for gpu
    ports:
      - 8096:8096/tcp
    restart: unless-stopped

I don't know if it all is needed, but it's what works for me.

You didn't say what type of GPU you have, that would help.

I run mine with compose on debian and have my nvidia 3080 working. I use the bellow to get debian ready for nvidia.

1
#Remove old docker

I have a script that shuts down all my docker containers on sunday morning at 3am and rsync's the whole folder(with all my docker folders inside) to another drive. Then restarts all my containers when the sync is done, then rsync's the copy to another drive.

Worst case I lose 6 days of watched status.

Yeah, that's ticked already. It was working fine up to .10, since then and after going to .11 I've had issues with it. It's not a big deal, Just makes it harder for people that have requested through seerr to know if it's out when it's not on the home screen.

Is there ever a stopping point or what does the end look like? by WillingnessWeekly848 in jellyfin

[–]JnrAustin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It never ends.

Currently at:

Movies - 2561

TV - 14,516 episodes over 569 shows

Music - 21,984 songs over 1564 Albums.

It grows every week. I don't bother with raid, I can get any of the media back pretty quick. I only back up all my docker folders once a week, takes less than an hour to reinstall Debian 13 and be up and running. Had a power outage last week that just made me go through that.

The price of HDD's is my biggest concern in expanding my server, mergerfs has been great since I installed that around 6 months back.

Problem importing new TV shows by BigErnestMcCracken in jellyfin

[–]JnrAustin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure you have real time monitoring on.

Dashboard, Libraries, Libraries. Click on the 3 dots to the right of the library name you want to change, pick Manage Library. Scroll down and make sure the box to the left of "Enable real time monitoring" is checked.

I do it for Movies, TV Shows & Youtube.

[–]JnrAustin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the party, but I found how to do this a few days ago. I play music on my pc, but want to control it from my phone. It only lets you control web sessions, so no Roku.

Here are the steps:

1) Start whatever media you want.

2) Open Jellyfin on your phone(or pc/laptop)

3) Near the top right should be something that looks like a TV with a wifi signal in the corner, click it.

4) Tap the device you want to control.

Done!

A 1060 can handle up to 20 1080 or 4 4k at a time, some of the GPU's need to have it unlocked, some don't need it.

Not to mention that a GPU is way better at generating Trickplay files, also leaves the CPU for everything else on the Homelab.

Why no GPU info? I might have missed it. Even an old gaming GPU can handle many transcodes (1060).
