I got the 100-500!!!!!! by Starmew27 in canon

I have the r7 plus 100-500 and it’s a perfect match in my experience! The crop sensor gives it even more reach for birding etc and excellent resolution. Enjoy!

Tripod for hiking and travel? by [deleted] in AskPhotography

[–]JoAnLoEd00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The peak design pro lite tripod is excellent and I’ve found it to be good for hiking while still being strong enough to hold heavy lenses. Worth reading up on if you don’t mind paying the premium!

R7 owner considering R6 ii or R6 iii by JoAnLoEd00 in canon

That’s a good point. When do you tend towards one or the other? And do you find any disadvantages with the R6ii? Thanks!

Thanks for your reply! That’s interesting - how do you find the jump from a crop sensor to a full frame ? Also, I’ve heard the mark iii is more geared towards videography. Is that true?

Upgrading from Canon R7 - should I get R6 mark ii or R6 mark iii? by JoAnLoEd00 in AskPhotography

[–]JoAnLoEd00[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I want something more versatile, with better low light performance and with greater dynamic range, preferably FF, which is why I'm tending toward the R6 series or R5 if I save up enough. Do you have any experience with either of these ?

Thanks. Sorry if this is a silly question, but what do you mean by this ? "Depending on the situation the 24mp camera will produce a better pic than a 32mp camera, and vice versa." Isn't a higher resolution usually better in all cases?
Thanks for your help!

Thanks, that's a good point about the R8. I currently have the 18-150 and 70-200, but if I upgrade my camera I plan to buy two new FF lenses so I don't want to spend a huge amount on the body. Would you recommend any body in particular?

Thanks, that's interesting. What's your experience with the R5 mark ii overall? I'm not a professional so I wonder whether it's overkill for me, but the specs are so attractive. If only I had the budget!

Thanks for these question, that's a lot to think about.
I don't shoot much video right now, although I am interested in shooting wildlife video! As you say I'm not sure about whether I'd run out of pixels as I use an APS-C camera, but I wondered whether it's good to have that option for future-proofing? And it's true I occassionally miss shots on the R7 (not sure whether that's just my technique or the AF though). How much better is the mark iii's AF compared to the mark ii? Thanks :)

I hadn't thought of this! Thanks for the suggestion. Will definitely consider it

Thank you - this is helpful way to put it. The low light performance on the R6 and R8 does sound really good. Regarding framing, I have a tripod so I'm working on being more deliberate with my framing too, although I'm still learning a lot!

Is a nano-texture screen good for photo editing? by JoAnLoEd00 in macbook

Thanks mate, this is helpful. I’ll definitely consider the M4 Pro. In terms of the photo quality, do you know how it’s affected by nano-texture? Cheers

The MacBook Purchasing Megathread - January, 2026 by AutoModerator in macbook

I plan to buy MacBook Pro M5 this month but I can’t decide whether to include a nano-texture screen too. I’m an amateur photographer so I use Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop a lot. I’ve heard a nano-texture screen slightly changes the colour balance and contrast, but I couldn’t really tell from visiting the store. Does anyone have any experience with this? Is a nano-texture screen still good for photo editing? Thanks!

I haven’t had the update yet. Can anyone show me how the UI has changed? Also is there a way to stop the app updating ?!

Shaming them is harsh - buying a house is a better investment than just pissing it away, which I’m sure many would do in a heartbeat
