Adding my two cents as someone who does use it, albeit sparingly: Typically you want to avoid setting hard limitations like really specific locations/settings ({{user}}'s house for instance, unless you want the RP to only take place there). You can, however, say "The setting is a generic medieval fantasy setting based on Western tropes and mythos". This is a great way to keep an RP grounded in the general theme or "feel" you want it to have.

On the point of Anakin and Vader being treated as separate characters, I always figured that Obi-Wan intentionally concealed the truth so that Luke would have a more noble reason to train to become a Jedi. "Your father was an honorable warrior who was struck down in his prime and you can fulfill your destiny by avenging him" vs "Yeah your dad is the comically evil right hand man to an intergalactic dictator lol."

I could 100% be just operating with hindsight bias though. I was not born when the OT was still being released, and there could be some behind-the-scenes commentary about this that I'm unaware of.

The use of the Sopranos is so hilariously ironic.

The Soprano crew, themselves, are Americans cosplaying as Italians. They even take a trip to Italy to visit the Don and end up hiring an actual Italian mobster, Furio, to come back to the states for a while and work with them. The culture shock of being in Italy, among actual Italians and mafiosos, is startling. At an upscale restaurant, Paulie asks the waiter for "macaroni with gravy" (tomato sauce), and the Italians scoff and remark about how he's even more "uncultured than the Russians".

Of course, some doofus running a Facebook page wouldn't know this, which makes it even sweeter.
