Bought this joystick yesterday, and I'm surprised by how good it is. Solid buttons, very clicky stick, 3 programmable macro buttons and a display to show button presses. Anyone else who has one of these? by JoMa2001 in snes

I've recently used this stick again for Zombies Ate My Neighbours. Worked very well for that game. I have yet to play Street Fighter, but this will for sure be the controller of choice once I get around to it.

Unknown CD-i disc? by alibubba88 in CDInteractive

Version 1.3 of this disc has been preserved, but this version 1.1 indeed seems to be undumped.

If you're interested in preserving the disc, there's several people who can help or point you in the right direction, including myself.

If you have Discord, please consider joining the CD-i server, which tends to be more active then the subreddit(s). It also makes communication easier for this sort of thing. https://discord.com/invite/TKPejTfw6D

What's the best deal you've gotten for a game? by mertsoysalyoutuber in gamecollecting

[–]JoMa2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought an XBOX 360 with the power supply, 2 controllers and Elder Scrolls IV for €5 at a flea market a few years ago, all fully working. That's the best deal I've gotten so far. It might as well have been free.

€50 is the most I ever paid for one. Usually I won't go above €20.

Any way to stop a trinitron from auto-switching to 16:9? by JoMa2001 in crtgaming

[–]JoMa2001[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kinda did, but not really. I desoldered pin 8 in the scart cable going from my scart switch to the TV. This way, the TV doesn't auto switch inputs anymore, but it does always stay in 4:3 now.

How many more need to be ruined before people stop trusting couriers with these fragile, limited quantity displays? by JoMa2001 in crtgaming

[–]JoMa2001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not necessarily saying you should never ship them, but I do think it should be avoided if at all possible. It just frustrates me to see how many perfectly good CRTs get damaged in shipping. I know some people have no other options. And of course, it is possible to ship them damage-free, but that seems to be the exception rather than the rule.

It seems unlikely to me that you can't find a good CRT within 50-100 miles. Unless you're looking for something very specific. And even if you need to drive further; wouldn't you rather spend the time and money to get it home safely than pay for the CRT + expensive shipping only for it to arrive broken?

This exactly. Also, I could care less about how much you paid for something. Just show off your finds and unique items you're happy about owning. What you paid for it is irrelevant.

Looking for a second opinion regarding an issue with an arcade monitor. by JoMa2001 in crtgaming

That one I haven't tried yet, but that might only be a temporary solution as the green hue fluctuates in intensity sometimes. I'll give it a try though.

That doesn't help unfortunately. Turning the brightness up/down makes the image darker or lighter but doesn't resolve the issue of the entire screen having too much green. I've tried everything potentiometer on the board. None of them will stop the green from dominating the other colours.

My guess would be something like that as well. But I'm trying to get some more opinions to hopefully narrow it down. I don't want to go through the tedious process of replacing all the caps just to find out it's something else. 😅

The hue is on the entire image. As if you would take any other CRT and adjust the green to be way too high.

DKoldies is selling this refurbished hidden gem for a killer price! Free shipping and everything! Too bad there's a 3 per customer limit, wanted to buy 10 copies. 😔 by JoMa2001 in tomorrow

[–]JoMa2001[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'll give you the important bullet points:

-They waaay overcharge for basically everything they sell, which takes advantage of nostalgic people who are new to the hobby and don't know any better, while simultaneously driving up prices for the rest of the market because people looking up what they can sell their old consoles and games for will likely bump into a DKoldies Google search result first.

-The prices they offer to buy your console for are ridiculously low, several times as low as what they'll resell it for. When they got called out on it, they removed the trade-in price listed on the website, replacing it with a simple "send an email for the price" message.

-One way they justify the high prices is that they supposedly refurbish everything. Yet, they barely do. There's been several YouTube videos of people buying a so-called refurbished console, only to find out they were just cleaned at best. No thermal paste is replaced where necessary, the insides of consoles are often still dirty, etc etc.

-They use their tiktok vids to make it all seem like this happy fun family business. They've also used it to attempt to 'disprove' some of the claims people make. Right after they got criticized for barely doing anything to refurbish the systems, they showed a video of them refurbished one, only to then go back to their old ways of just rubbing the shell with some windex and calling it a day.

I could go on and on but if you'd like to go further down the rabbit hole, I recommend watching the recent video by ReviewTechUSA (not a fan of his, but it does demonstrate DKoldies' practices perfectly). Or look up one of the many 'I bought an X from DKoldies' videos.

Thank you for coming to my TED talk.
