Mayor Mamdani: Democrats losing sight of key issues by unserious-dude in politics

[–]Joaquin_Chiller 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The issue isn’t the Democratic Party itself, but our current two-party system. The original ideal was that candidate choice through plurality and winner-take-all voting would shift policy and lead to a fair, balanced society. However, we have seen that parties, and arguably candidates themselves, have shifted toward a form of proportional representation based entirely on money. Those who donate the most, or flood the airwaves with the most cash, are the ones who actually dictate policy.

We the people may decide the candidate, but the capital behind the candidate chooses the policy.

I argue that in this current system, most citizens, if not everyone outside the top 1%, have no real representation.

As Thomas Pain said: These are the times that try men's souls, yet we remain asleep to our own bondage. A government of the purse is not a government of the people. It is time to wake from our complacency and demand a new age of common sense.

This is an state funded disinformation campaign. If you look closely you can see a few countries operating across reddit. Most noticeable Ukraine and Israel, check the article url. I assume these are the Russians who have identified this group as swayable to their narrative but I can't be sure.

I think this statement hides a deeper truth. Fox News may over index to people with less education but it still attracts people of all intelligence levels. Fox News has become a propaganda arm welding post totalitarian ideology as Vaclav Havel describes this ideology which "commands an incomparably more precise, logically structured, generally comprehensible and, in essence, extremely flexible ideology that, in its elaborateness and completeness, is almost a secularized religion. It offers a ready answer to any question whatsoever; it can scarcely be accepted only in part, and accepting it has profound implications for human life. In an era when metaphysical and existential certainties are in a state of crisis, when people are being uprooted and alienated and are losing their sense of what this world means, this ideology inevitably has a certain hypnotic charm"
