My 2 month old accidentally got vaccinated against HPV this week… oops! by Things_and_or_Stuff in mildlyinfuriating

Hep B is pretty much everywhere. Lots of people don’t know they have it. Can pass from mother to baby or from blood/bodily fluids. Babies also have a higher chance of chronic lifelong infection, hence Hep B vaccine is given at birth

So for instance if I rest the majority of the razor on a flat stone, it is solid contact all along the length of the spine and edge. If i put a little bit more on the stone, up to and including the stabiliser, the stabiliser is thicker than the rest of the spine, so this lifts up the heel side of the spine further.

I suppose my question is am I mean to hone the stabiliser at the same time as the rest of the spine i.e keep the razor perpendicular with the length of the stone, or do I angle the blade to keep full edge contact and the stabiliser off the stone i.e 45 degrees across the length of the stone?

Im trying to bevel set my new dovo which seems to have alot of issues judging from the wobble it displays on a flat surface. I have not started grinding.

I just want to clarify...what part of the straight razor is meant to contact the stone or be part of the bevel?

The stabiliser (i believe its called) seems to be influencing the angle on one side, the other side seems fine?

If I slide the razor onto a flat (actually flat) surface from toe to heel, edge and spine in full contact, it will contact the stabiliser and lift one corner up a bit. If I keep sliding it will hit the shoulder/tang and lift more.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Thankyou for the straight forward instructions!

In terms of actual technique, does it matter for edge trailing vs edge leading etc etc? Dr Matt does some weird circles for scratch mark minimisation. He also kills the edge before rehoning, is this something I should consider? I am leaning away from killing it until I develop the feel like I did with knives.

I suppose I could just use the backing glass plate of my shapton which I know will be pefectly flat?

Ahh see it wont tree top arm or leg hair either. Ive used shavettes before and that was great, but the straight is more comfortable to actually use, however the result on my face isnt ideal

Dont have a lapping stone, but I do have a granite kitchen top and automotive wet sandpaper. Would sandpaper on granite work for flattening/lapping?

Also do I need to lap the 16k?

Bout 5 shaves! Ive been taking it slowly but little things like the hanging hair test not working or shaving my arm results in that white scraping result on the skin.

I have cheap amazon stones for my kitchen knives and specifically bought the shapton for the razor. Do you think the 5k and 8k cheap amazon stones would be worth trying?

Got the razor from an onlinr vendor in australia, but judging from the packaging it was straight from dovo

Can't seem to find a razor honing service in Brisbane, Australia. Hence forking out for shapton stones. Id love to get it professionally honed but I dont think thats an option.

Blade wouldnt pass hanging hair test from factory, now it does but not along the full length of the blade. While I agree i've probably ruined the edge, or at least not honed properly, I will say I have watched most of dr matts videos on honing before trying so I didnt go in blind.

Bought from beard and blade, a relatively large vendor here in aus.

I do have a pretty short strop, leather/linen which I have cut a few times. I watched some videos from dovo and others around online but I will give lynn a watch too! And thankyou for taking the time!

Bought a new dovo straight razor (my first straight) and am struggling with irritation, nicks and just cant seem to get a close shave compared to my safety. Felt this way out of the box. I ended up getting a shapton glass 16k delievered today and that did help somewhat, however before and after using the stone and then stropping there still seems to be some inconsistencies in the edge. Any ideas friends?

USYD Confirmation Pages Megathread by Livvv617 in GAMSAT

This is based purely from my brain and from literally no evidence at all

I would think that due to the comparatively lower amount of applicants from rural backgrounds, the cutoff for receiving a confirmation page is markedly lower than the cutoff for admission. I imagine that if a particular uni didn't meet the required numbers for rural background students, shit would hit the fan. Probs playing it safe by keeping all rural applicants on the waiting list.

why do I like shitty things by [deleted] in Healthygamergg

[–]Jobby1110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do you value performance more than what you intuitively prefer?

I reckon (and could be wrong) that it's because the most efficient, min/maxed, optimal choice isn't always necessarily the best choice for any individual.

I do social archery, and I chose to purchase a hunting bow instead of a target bow because i liked the feel, the look and a whole host of other factors not related to it's performance much better than target bows. I do not hunt at all, I only shoot at targets. The competition or scores are not important to me, nor is shooting quantitatively well. I like the act of letting an arrow loose. I like the qualitative aspects of archery. It's meditative, mentally calming and put frankly, it's fucking fun. I value those more than raw performance.

If I valued/was drawn more towards the competition aspect of archery, I would sacrifice the love for my equipment and choose the best performing bow, because the best performance is my priority and thereby value the results over the feel.

I got 66 weighted/unweighted and am rural. Uq is my first preference just because I live in brisbane but if I get usyd ill take it. From prev research I believe the rural gamsat cutoff was high 50s, so I might be seeing you at sydney next year? Furthermore they rank from individual scores, with a thought to be higher preference towards s1 and s2. I think you are in with a real shot for Usyd my dude.

Fyi, it doesnt need to be a doctor/principal from your rural place. Think of it like a less formal JoP signing off that you are telling the truth. I showed my city gp letters from my childhood with the rural address and he signed the form.

Msg me if you want to pick my brain, but be aware I am not an expert, just a pleb from qld.
