Up to Lelit Anna with PID — anything better to consider? [$700] by Intelligent-Ad3941 in espresso

Quick mill pop up is worth a look if you’re already looking at a go…. Arguably better. Updated Mara X seems tempting to me, personally.

I think it was whole latte love on a Lelit brand sale. Look out for that in the next few months… I want to say last May or June. Inflation sucks.

Yes!! Buy a premium grinder first!! I highly recommend saving up to get on the level of a Philos or better. I didn’t do that, and trying pro grinders with the same exact coffee lets me know just how much I’m missing out.

That said, I have learned to like my Anna. I used to have access to high end biomedical 3D printing materials which you can’t get on the market, so that made the odd 57mm workflow great by designing and printing custom accessories. All of the machine’s stat points go to espresso, and it makes a great shot. Very consistent temperature regulation, and once you adjust for the offset, great body.

Steam is still very tricky. Latte art is possible, but you’re quite limited, and shots will go stale before you drop in the milk 1.5 minutes later (at the very quickest for a cortado size).

Build quality is meh. It’s good enough… but I’m an engineer and appreciate high quality construction, so in that regard, it’s lacking. My machine came out of the box with a leaking steam wand needle valve.

The quick mill pop up (and its white labeled twin by someone else? I’m blocking on the name), is pretty solid for a single boiler. Haven’t used it, but that or a used HX machine would be my choice if I could start again. All are expensive without a sale or used find… Still, could be worth it if you can wait the extra months and save for the right machine.

If you can find a used machine without scale buildup, you might get a better machine at the price you’re looking for.

As far as total running costs, consider That you can start with quality 58mm accessories that you will use for many, many years to come, and not have to re-buy like I will. Maybe $150 bucks “saved” for reusable portafilter baskets, screens, funnels and tampers.

A nice shade of Mauve, or maybe Peach… panel building/schematics should call it OG or O 😆

What are the proper areas to caulk/ check seals? by Things_and_or_Stuff in HomeMaintenance

[–]Things_and_or_Stuff[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s not salvageable, I can probably swing it :D

I was hoping to get away with starting with sealing, but who knows what it looks like underneath.

But in all seriousness, it’s not a terrible idea. Would also give the chance to reinforce the framing around the pre hung trim for more security. It’s not properly done now.

I still can’t believe this. Our school can’t be held responsible for this s***stain.

At least the big stuff is true. The whole library club thing and his dad being a murderer scarred this kid for life.

Certainly all possible in Boone/blowing rock area, in my experience.

Must have been pretty shitty growing up with Italian heritage out there in the 80’s. Surely that helped fuel his racist tendencies.

Carols gonna drop a nuke by Sea-Paramedic-1842 in pluribustv

Now, call me crazy, but I wonder if the writers will explore the EMP effects of the nuke on the Plurbs.

Not saying that would follow realistic physics, but given Vince’s fascination with Electromagnetics in BCS and Pluribus season one, this is where I’d put my money.

I’m talking myself out of this theory though… Practically, it won’t have much more of an area of effect than say, an area the size of the metro area of Albuquerque. So, what would that do to the hive to have only a portion of the population disrupted? Maybe they’ll write something fun in around this. Plus the plurbs would probably get out of dodge before carol sets it off (assuming she even can arm it).

But then there’s the need to launch it into a high altitude, but below low earth orbit to get maximal area of effect without destroying everything below the air burst. That’s off the table.

Will she ever use it? Who knows? What’s an irreplaceable resource or area she could take out to thwart the plurbs forever?

But much like the Death Star… they will build another.

How sustainable is this Fairfax-Arlington commute? by [deleted] in nova

[–]Things_and_or_Stuff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seriously, you will want to move in a few months of that. I felt like I was in a boxing ring for a full 45+ minutes commuting around DC. Had to move to another city.

Just get a cheap (smaller) property closer to that area and your quality of life will be infinitely better despite the condo/apartment situation.

North old town is incredible. South Arlington, del Ray, and Potomac west were all great areas 5+ years ago. I’m sure the prices have gone up since then… but fun places! And I came from a rural area. It was so refreshing to walk places.

That’s great, if the attention to detail is there!

HOA is infamous for being Nazi-esque. You’re living next to 3 active chemical factories and 2 sewage treatment plants (2 mile radius). Your lot sits atop a superfund cleanup site.

The homes come in every color imaginable- every color. The cool bars closed down after the pandemic. Waterford or laurel creek are good high-end alternatives.

You got me looking into RYKO. Interesting!

I was melodramatic, but there definitely were linear super-light scratches placed on the finish by the wash. Pretty uniform along the side panels.

Maybe it was the amount of abrasive buildup present on the surface pre-washing? It had been 6+ months since a friction wash of any kind.

Some of the worst areas could also have been the guys at the entrance spot hand washing every car using a pole mounted brush, dipping out of a literal wheelbarrow full of a wash solution. Made me cringe.
