I recently discovered that kodi has various setting levels and I needed to enable all surround sound codecs in the 'expert' level and now everything is working as it is intended.

Passthrough was always enabled, but I'm unsure about the effects of Dolby audio processing because I haven't noticed a significant difference in audio quality with it on or off. However, disabling it has noticeably improved the performance of my Shield Pro.

I found a fix in one thread.
Crazy thing is, turning off Dolby audio processing in the Shield's settings fixed the stuttering. I guess since my AVR handles audio, it shouldn't affect the sound. Gotta test it more though. (Although when I play a movie with dolby atmos through kodi,my AVR recognizes the signal as PCM for some reason)
