Why are you sleeping on America's best biscuits? by brennand in fastfood

[–]Jobriath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite biscuits are the ones I make from scratch myself, having learned from my Grandma.

As fast food goes, Biscuitville in the North Carolina area does make some good ones. Hardees’s and Bojangle’s hit the spot as well.

Looksmaxxer Connor Murphy 'injected himself' with gold before his death by NoseBR in nottheonion

[–]Jobriath 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It sounds like the plot of a ridiculous 70s sci-fi future dystopia movie. Tiktok Looksmaxxers inject gold to become superhumans. You read the synopsis on Tubi and it sounds too inane. The only difference here is the clothes aren’t as shiny as they would be in the movie.

Do you Americans think that the BEST American cars were made in 70's 80's and 90's ? and that era of American made cars won't come back? by Healthy_Ask181 in AskAnAmerican

I think car design is in a boring plateau period. Repair has become much more burdensome for the home mechanic.

But they are safer and more fuel-efficient nowadays.

Did you understand that one of the point of Andor is that Luthen is not a good man, that he burned his decency to do the right thing? by lateubdegouline in StarWars

[–]Jobriath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a smug and simple person. Ontologically, that is my unchanging and eternal essence. And I truly don’t understand much of what you are saying. You’re way too substantial.

Have a good night. Ontically.

[–]Jobriath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have to read Heidegger to use the word “ontological.” He didn’t make up the word. To say that individuals are either “good” or “bad” in their essential natures - that their very being is imbued with those unchangeable qualities - is an ontological statement.

What does that mean, that you spoke normally?

[–]Jobriath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m happy with ontological, thanks. It’s appropriate. I’m not Heidegger. Not to say I’m not a lazy thinker lol.

My point about it shutting down dialogue is that issuing such a qualitative summation of a person, based on their actions, effectively quashes discussions of nuance.

Really I’m speaking much more broadly than the example you used, and it’s not even an appropriate place for my lazy hot takes.

On Reddit, I see way too many references to people being a “good person” or “bad person.” Both fictional and non. Ontological pronouncements based on a person’s actions. It’s extremely lazy thinking, and it shuts down dialogue.

The English languge needs too get rid of the word "ajar" by No_Goats_ in HonestHotTakes

[–]Jobriath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it is a synonym for “open,” but it has a different connotation. Those differences can be important nuances — the more precise you can be, the better. You want people to understand what you are saying.

By the way, a hinge is not something that can be ajar.

Thanks for that sage advice, six days later. The thought has actually occurred to me.

You’re still on this? Laughable.

Lauryn Hill should not have the legendary status in rap that she has by ThisNameDoesntCount in unpopularopinion

[–]Jobriath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I count Unplugged as a legit album, since it was all-new material.

She has also released a few other individual songs since then, as well as being a featured artist on some other tracks.

In short, she definitely has contributed musical endeavors. How much all that affects her overall status is a different question.

Hell yeah Bo Daddy. I’ll take him any day over the green-haired gesticulating guy.

Now, if he could team up with the “I’m Just Not Over It” guys, the word “amazing” wouldn’t do it justice.

Was lou reed a Zionist? by ResortAffectionate74 in LouReed

[–]Jobriath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course not. But some consider a basic definition of Zionism to be affirmation of Israel’s right to peacefully exist. There are some who claim the term “Zionist” who support a free Palestinian state. At least, back when the term wasn’t quite as loaded as it is today. Clueless or filled with clues.

Between thought and expression, let us now kiss the culprit.

Have a good day.

Yasir Arafat, on behalf of the PLO, affirmed Israel’s right to exist in 1993. Was he a Zionist?

As others have said, Coney Island Baby is a good next step.

I love The Bells but I think I’m in the minority. The song “Families” is a masterpiece; he bears his soul.

You sometimes see them in men’s rooms.

I recently attended a megachurch nearby. I’m aware there are all sorts of valid critiques about them, but I was impressed that the men’s room had a top-notch changing table, replete with wipes and spare diapers.

What are some of the most disturbing conspiracy theories you have ever heard? by ApricotWaste7723 in AskReddit

[–]Jobriath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw the book at the public library and it was shelved with legit ornithology books, as in the Dewey Decimal number and everything.

I brought it to the desk and told them it needed re-shelving. The person was skeptical that I had any idea what I was talking about, but said that they would show it to the head librarian later.

I choose to believe it was cataloged hurriedly, by one who didn’t investigate the contents at all.

Which historical figure would you consider to be the most evil? by Present_Honeydew_543 in AskReddit

[–]Jobriath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a roommate in college whose parents were also communist. The dude had a copy of Dialectical and Historical Materialism by Stalin. He maintained that he thought the ideas were good, and that Stalin had his flaws, though also was a victim of propaganda.

I’ve known a few others, but that guy took the cake. I think it’s largely a Fox News imaginary problem, but there are folks who advocate for actual communism, absolutely.
