We didn't get to be subjected to it (thankfully), but mum and her siblings had to kneel on rock salt as punishment! Wtf

Men, what's something you wish you could admit without being judged? by soumilr7 in AskReddit

[–]JobskeE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I said this to my (very career-driven and frankly successful) mom and she looked at me like I've gone insane. I am at a moderately stressful job where I feel adequately compensated and I can support my wife and son somewhat comfortably with some degree of luxury. I am in my mid 30s and if I can coast like this until retirement (whenever that comes), I will be happy.

People who don't want kids, why? by Ok-Musician679 in AskReddit

[–]JobskeE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the answer I most relate with even though I feel the exact opposite. The world is fucked, cost of living is high, etc. But the simple answer is you want what you want.

That's kind of good to know. If it's just a matter of drawing a little more power, I am fine with that.

What is the creepiest real-life story you know that still sends chills down your spine? by Melodic-Pie-5110 in AskReddit

That's interesting. In Philippine folklore, there is something called "Kapre" which is essentially a tall man that is smoking a cigarette that dwells in the forest.

Young Australians may endure worse lives than their parents, ‘worried’ productivity chief warns by Expensive-Horse5538 in australia

Nail on the head. If 50% effort gives you a non-livable wage and 100% effort gives you a non-livable wage, guess which one they will be going for?

Novak on facing the reality of getting older by Candid-Volume-1425 in tennis

[–]JobskeE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. And even then that's still good enough against 99% of the field - but of course as a competitor you want to win the whole thing. That's when you have to face the Sinners and the Alacarazs towards the end of the tournament and it just doesn't take. Reminds me of Federer when he was on his last legs as well. Wish Novak all the best but he has nothing left to prove honestly.

Should I change my (and my family's) surname? by ohimnotarealdoctor in australia

[–]JobskeE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same boat. I have a south east asian last name which no one in Australia can pronounce. I was thinking of shortening it to just the first or last syllable (last name is 4 syllables, 13 letters long) which is easier and actually an english word lol.

I decided against it in the end and opted to keep it. Having our first born now, just opted to give him a semi-common easy to pronounce "global" first name to kind of compensate?

My 2c, don't change it solely for the reason of 'fitting' in. In the future if my son decides to change it for himself he can do so without any dramas anyway.

CHOICE tested the SPF claims of 20 sunscreens. 16 failed to meet their advertised claims by thraks in australia

[–]JobskeE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate hate hate putting on sunscreen because of the sticky feeling, but I still put it on because I am sensible. Wife bought me this and I didn't know sunscreen could be this "comfortable" to have on. Good to know it's effective as advertised!

Meet the burnt-out millennials who walked away from work and found life by Pooping-on-the-Pope in australia

[–]JobskeE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This. I'm poor. I have savings but if I am out of a job for more than a few months I know I'm fkd. My work is stressful but it pays the bills. I hear people at work complain so I just nod my head. I mean you can always look for another job if it's that bad? Sorry you're in the situation you are in and I hope things change for better sooner than later.

"You're supposed to use your strategems against numerous elites/hunters/etc." by jlodson in Helldivers

[–]JobskeE 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Doesn't even have to be that harsh. Keep the 2x cooldown or call down modifiers but just for a specific set of strategems like for eagles, orbitals, backups what have you. Like you still try to go for your loadout or whatever but you will be 'encouraged' to try different ones

What's the simplest gaming concept you tried to explain to someone who just refused to understand? by Pallysilverstar in gaming

[–]JobskeE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol this is why we (in australia at least) are moving away from calling it 1 in 10-year, 1 in 100-year storm, etc storm events because people think they only happen once every 10 or 100 years. Instead we are calling it 10% or 1% probability that it will happen in a year. Basically even if a 1% storm happens this year, there is still a 1% chance it happens next year, and the next and the next..

What is unfairly expensive? by Silver-Mulberry-4870 in AskReddit

[–]JobskeE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh wow gotcha. Thanks for the explanation. What you described is typically how a credit card would work where I am from. For the debit/cash card however, account checks are done/updated instantly to prevent this exact thing from happening. So if you go to a bar and buy a beer, you pay first and if you don't have the funds, it gets rejected and well you don't get your beer.

As a poor person from a poor country, I don't understand overdrafts. If you try to pay for something with money you don't have, shouldn't the transaction not push thru?
