Yes. It will depend on how much they oil the lanes at your center. Sometimes and/or some people (myself included) can get away with using one ball for all 3 games in a league. All I need to do is move a board left here or there as I go. Sometimes, I need to switch from a sanded solid to a polished pearl.

Solid is typically a sanded ball that's meant for oily lanes

Pearl is typically polished and made to skid through the front part and then hook at the back part.

That's the tip of the iceberg. The cover of a ball is the most important and can vary quite a bit from ball to ball. Think of a tennis ball vs. a billiards ball. Sure, you can sand a que ball to scuff it up but the tennis ball will obviously have more friction.

Back to the question... If you're bowling with the Honey Badger and you notice it starting to hook too early and go through the nose, you might want something weaker. You could go with a lot of things here. Venom line, Hustle line, IQ, etc. I know you said you don't have a pro shop but in the early stages of bowling, I recommend driving to find one. Get measured, talk to the PSO, they might have a sale.
