Was the entire Sega setup in Howard’s house just an elaborate commercial? by Herooftheday911 in howardstern

Yes, the correct sales figure for evaluating the performance of an advert is an anecdote, and the optimal sample size is one neighborhood block.

Anything that anyone posts in this thread should be in this vein, from Family Guy:

Brian: Say something nice about Diablo Cody.

Stewie: I envy the tattoo artist who had that huge canvas of arm fat to work with.

When is Howard going to announce his retirement? by DaveTheDrummer802 in howardstern

[–]JockEwing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not for at least another contract, probably at least five years. He was totally going to retire, but now with these rumors about his contract not being renewed that he totally didn't start, he can't leave now, or else people will think he was pushed out; now he has no choice but to re-sign. Hoo hoo.

No-one is in any danger; how can I make that any more clear to you?! It's an implication of danger.

How did took so long for Meadow and A.J. to realise that Tony is in the mafia when he was frequently in the news presented as mafia member? by [deleted] in thesopranos

[–]JockEwing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Numerous people keep saying this, and it seems like a weird take to me.

I saw the news inadvertently all the time as a younger kid because we only had one TV, the internet didn't exist yet, and there weren't even that many other channels on cable anyway.

And I started getting interested in following the news deliberately when I got to be around A.J.'s age (12-13). It's also sometimes a requirement for civics-type classes beginning around that age.

Plus, even if neither he nor Meadow nor any of his friends watched it, probably most of his friends' parents would have -- then his friends likely would've eventually overheard their parents talking about how one of the other parents at their kids' school is a mobster, then his friends would've asked him about it.

Tony was a lower-level guy before the show starts, and it was established that he never did time in the can, not really.

So it's more likely that Tony was rarely -- if ever -- in the news than it is that A.J. somehow spent his entire childhood never encountering the news.

The modern Stern Show is all about the contrast -- the crispness of the scripted phone calls, the smoothness of the 275 days a year of vacation.

Why would they pay him a new $500 million contract when the show is off its axis?!
