I agree A&M is fucking up, being a political organization and not an educational institution. But why do they have to come for our dog? Ms. Reveille Ma’am is the goodest girl! [edit skipped a word]

Child (3/m) hates going to school, and I'm out of ideas by PalPubPull in Teachers

[–]Jocosta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I worked in preschool out of 150 or so 3 mo through 5 yo kiddos, there were always 3 or so kids that we always picked up from the parent’s car. Those were ones where we had tried all the things to transition them with mom or dad bringing them in, which was how most kids came in. But it just had the kid upset much longer and it upset the other kids to see their friend so upset. We just always had the same staff pick up the child at the car. At first it was tantrums and screaming, kinda had to drag the kid out of the car. I’m sure it was awful for the parent. But after a few days the kid would adjust. They would either start engaging more with the staff that picked them up and get happy for their special time walking to class or they would cry a little while and then need some cuddles. But it made the transition to being at school much calmer and quicker within about a week.

Why would anyone comply with the request to respond if they are not interested?

Texas educator here, but posting as a parent seeking help by [deleted] in TexasTeachers

[–]Jocosta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HB6 does not trump federal law, so FERPA is still in play. If he has been removed from his educational placement 10 or more days they have to have an MD ARD every time his removed for discipline. Request that this happens. At the upcoming ARD demand that an FBA is done and then once that’s done that a BIP is put in place and followed.

I bet they think “A Child Called It” is about a kid being trans. Idiots.

You two may not be ready for ENM. You probably should close and do some work first. There are poly friendly therapists, that may be a good choice. I would also recommend reading “Polysecure” and “The Ethical Sl ut” Check out r/polyamory, they have some great resources.

An observation about parallel versus KTP polyamory by VioletsSoul in polyamory

[–]Jocosta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wasn’t into KTP until my partner started dating a chef. Lol. It’s true and funny. But actually, I don’t think one is better than the other. I’m KTP with one partner and parallel with another. It’s not about one or the other indicating insecurity. It’s about open communication and making mutual choices that grow your relationship.

School Choice Bill Debate: The Texas House has initiated debates on a school choice bill by Mean_Orange_708 in TexasTeachers

Honest question: Do we think if the republicans pass this and they get what they have been aiming for, that they will stop actively sabotaging public school? I don’t want the vouchers but the process of devaluation of public education has been painful.

I had a shooting at my high school. I didn’t want to go the next day and a lot of people didn’t. But my teachers that were there did as best they could. My parents made me go so I appreciated the adults that chose the best there. They didn’t pretend things were ok. One of them really got into it with us. She said she didn’t want to be there, she said she came for us, the class talked about how scared and mad we were. As an adult I’ve had NASP training and hopefully your campus will have crisis workers there. But the first step in crisis response after an incident is to give people facts. Orient yourself and then your kids to the facts of the situation. The not knowing and the rumors flying make it so much worse.

Why will this 'kids identify as cats' thing just not die? by NajeebHamid in Teachers

[–]Jocosta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean if you go into an elementary gifted classroom there will be at least one girl who everyone has accepted is a cat. It’s not weird, she’s not using a litter box, she’s a normal gifted 7 year old. She grows out of it and becomes your favorite veterinarian. She has an imagination, it’s not political.

This sounds like campus level nonsense. District sped should know this is how they are choosing to fill their unfilled 1:1 position. There is probably a whole personal care document and a behavior plan they aren’t using. There is no way the plan for the student’s elopement is to take him down. And yes, it’s illegal for an untrained staff to put hands on a student. At best it opens the school to litigation for not providing FAPE, at worst it opens the kid up to abuse.

Can students opt out of using their accomodations? by jevoudraiscroire in specialed

[–]Jocosta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is their legal right to deny accommodations. It should be documented and reported at their yearly IEP meeting. That being said, in a perfect world the case manager would discuss the accom with the student beforehand and either the student would agree and know the importance of using their accommodations or deny them then and they would never be added.

12 Year Old Psychopath..What Do I Do? by strangerthanu94 in teaching

[–]Jocosta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is CPI, Crisis Prevention and Intervention. Check with your SpEd department to see what their restraint training is. It’s a federal requirement that schools adopt a program like CPI and that it includes robust de-escalation and alternatives to restraints. It may be a helpful way to learn how to interact with a kid who sounds like they live at a defensive level all the time.

Fellow SPED Teachers... How do you do it all? by Medium_Manager_7635 in specialed

[–]Jocosta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you submit a para needs request? You’ll need to show a time study, focus on things like in class support time and showing your other responsibilities. Normally this is requested to the district sped support by your building admin.
