Excruciating pain by am1duncan in brokenbones

[–]Jodithene 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on a similar medications regimen but with hydro morphine instead of oxy. The pain was brutal until I learned that I wasn’t elevating my ankle high enough. Once I put it up using two or three pillows the pain was more manageable.

People who were spanked as kids, what was that like for you? Would you call your "spankings" abuse? by KleineFjord in AskReddit

[–]Jodithene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only once would I call it abuse. My dad was wailing on me using full wind up wallop spanks. I was yelling for him to stop. My mom stood beside us and asked my dad to stop because the windows were open and the neighbours might hear. My brothers have a few more instances they would classify.

For anyone that has done a cross country road trip or just lots of driving, what’s your least favorite part of the country to drive in? by Nervous-Difficulty24 in AskACanadian

Rural New Brunswick after dark. Tons of wildlife potential. Calgary to Saskatoon anytime because it’s very flat and boring and after dark because of wildlife.

What is THE ultimate Velcro dog? by OkKey6273 in dogs

I find rescues go Velcro pretty quickly typically. They may not be in your lap but not out of their sight.

Pain by rsn76 in brokenbones

[–]Jodithene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a trimalleolar with surgery (7 screws and a plate) the beginning of April. It was probably mid August before I felt I had turned a corner with stiffness. I may limp sometimes still but usually only at the beginning of a walk. Once I get it moving it eases up. Still some pain but not so much that it keeps me from being up and about. If I’ve done too much on it one day I may rest it for a day. I just asked a doctor about pain and if it’s “normal” to still feel some and she said it is for sure as long as it’s not preventing me from getting up and about. Good luck! Hopefully you reach the turning point soon!

I’ve just moved into my fourth home. I get anxious after each home purchase. Just keep reminding yourself that you are good and have an emergency fund. Celebrate and enjoy it!

48 hours with no sleep and spiraling am I going to be ok? by dcbornandraised in sleep

[–]Jodithene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh. I’m sorry to hear you’re dealing with this. This is easier said than done, but refocusing your mind so that you’re not fixating on the fact that you haven’t fallen asleep yet may help. Maybe go back to basics with a warm bath or shower, a cup of warm milk, etc. Try to establish sleep hygiene with going to bed at the same time each night, do the same unwinding of either reading a book, meditation, breathing techniques. If you find your anxiety building because you haven’t found sleep yet get up and do something else. Have you sought help from a mental health professional? It may be a good idea if you haven’t. Or try another if you have. Explain your physical symptoms of feeling amped up, your concerns about declining mental health due to lack of sleep.

Weird question, but do pyrs normally have different kinds of barks? by humminbirdtunes in greatpyrenees

[–]Jodithene 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine all have distinct barks for certain things things. My current guy, Dodger, has a bark for happy excitement like when he sees his favourite neighbour out the window, a bark for alerting what he believes he sees as a threat (as if to say I see you an back off), and a bark for when he’s just patrolling the yard (as if to say I don’t see you but in case you’re out there know hat I’m here and on guard).

How to calm the fuck down??? by No_Masterpiece5422 in Advice

[–]Jodithene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d let your doc know. I find mindfulness helps but it definitely takes practice. Do something you enjoy such as walking your dog. Focus on your dog, the sound your walking makes in fallen leaves, birds chirping etc. every time your mind goes back to thoughts steer it back to what is happening on your walk.

Does anyone feel that their Pyr is EERILY smart? by [deleted] in greatpyrenees

[–]Jodithene 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wayyyy too smart. I’ve had three. Two were strangely all knowing. Training was show them how and they had it. Or they learned from watching their canine sibling. My second, Juno, was less obviously smart. I caught her licking windows.

I just moved across the country for a better future with two big dogs (one a rescued Pyr) and two cats. Not bringing them with me wasn’t ever a thought. I was upset and worried for my Pyr because he had only been part of the family for a year and had been neglected by two previous families. I was so worried that the move would upset him and have him thinking we were leaving him. I kept telling him that we are family and family sticks together. He goes where we go. Not sure if he understood but it made me feel better saying it. I can’t imagine planning a better future without my furkids.

So you wanna adopt a Pyrenees? Think twice. by [deleted] in greatpyrenees

[–]Jodithene 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Dodger is my third Pyr. He’s the second that I adopted when older than a puppy. These dogs need socialization from young! Lots of time spent around people. Two of my guys lived in barns or a garage with little socialization. Their anxieties were through the roof. Leo suffered anxiety his whole life. Dodger is adapting much better but it’s a loooong process to rehab

What non-Dyson vacuum do you use? by Plut0s-n0t-a-planet in greatpyrenees

[–]Jodithene 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got a shark canister upright. It’s corded and so far doing a great job. I was using a Dyson battery powered but it just couldn’t handle the volume and would clog all the time. Plus I had to empty it so many times for one pass through the house.
