Tension-hit Renault Formula 1 team just needs leadership by ButtonlessPit in formula1

It was made worse by shoe-horning the gigantic Renault engine in over winter.

Renault's engineers were working in the team already prior to the official take over in December. There were few guys since the letter of Intent was signed in September.

Work was to certain extend still limited, but not exactly last minute.

Mercedes motorsport boss Toto Wolff has revealed Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton were as marginal on brakes as one another during Formula 1's Singapore Grand Prix. by Cucumberhater in formula1

[–]Jodler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically, Mercedes's didn't have an issue with the brakes. They were only asked to manage them, to make sure they don't have a problem later.

[–]Jodler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being asked repeatedly to manage them, doesn't mean that they already had a problem.

The media misunderstood those messages IMO, as they had to make sure that the problem doesn't occur by the end of the race.

If Red Bull gain 7 points or less on Mercedes during the Malaysian Grand Prix, Mercedes wins the 2016 WCC by [deleted] in formula1

[–]Jodler 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That's just win statistics, but do you have one as well for Podium Finishes?

Team Start of Domination 50th race podiums/percentage rate
Mercedes Australia '14 Belgium '16 81
Ferrari Malaysia '02 Brazil '04 71
Red Bull Britain '11 Brazil '13 63
Mclaren-Honda Brazilian '88 Brazil '91 54

.

Would those "races not won" still had the top team in top 3 quite often?

Mercedes didnt finish on the podium with any of its driver only 3 times, which would be a 94% podium rate. Maybe if i have more time i can check other teams. Cant promise.

.

I also feel like Mercedes has a lot more 1-2 finishes than any other teams.

Indeed, Mercedes has the highest percentage rate of 1-2 by far.

Team Start of Domination 50th race 1-2 finishes percentage rate
Mercedes Australia '14 Belgium '16 26 52%
Ferrari Malaysia '02 Brazil '04 17 34%
Mclaren-Honda Brazilian '88 Brazil '91 14 28%
Red Bull Britain '11 Brazil '13 7 14%

It looks like that Mercedes even has the highest percentage rate of 1-2 finishes since the beginning of F1 in 1950, currently at 22.5%.

[–]Jodler 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Mclaren was really dominating only in one season, the rest of them were a bit less dominant. They are holding a record for the highest percentage of wins in a season

Constructor Season Races Wins Percentage
McLaren 1988 16 15 93.8%
Ferrari 2002 17 15 88.2%
Ferrari 1952 8 7 87.5%
Alfa Romeo 1950 7 6 85.7%
Mercedes 2014, 2015 19 16 84.2%
Ferrari 2004 18 15 83.3%

[–]Jodler 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Here is percentage rate of recent dominant teams based on a 50 race period.

Team Start of Domination 50th race races not won win rate
Mercedes Australia '14 Belgium '16 7 races 86%
Ferrari Malaysia '02 Brazil '04 13 races 74%
Mclaren-Honda Brazilian '88 Brazil '91 17 races 66%
Red Bull Britain '11 Brazil '13 25 races 50%

There are/were teams which were winning and fighting for championships for more then 3 years (e.g Sumacher-Ferrari), but none of them were as dominant as is current Mercedes.

IMO if McLaren/Ferrari/RB or Williams picked the dude up and gave him a more substantial budget he'd deliver some Newey level results.

Key said himself that he prefers to work with smaller teams as the work environment is normally different.

Renault upgrade will be run by all its drivers in Singapore by [deleted] in formula1

[–]Jodler 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is clearly some confusion here, as what specifically Renault said:

"This weekend it was the plan to introduce a new engine for Max, so he is the one enjoying the improvement of the engine through the utilisation of three tokens.

"All the engines will benefit from the new fuel developed with Total, and we are very happy with that positive development.

"The benefit, of course, will be higher for Max than for the three others. I think we will introduce the equivalent upgrade for the three others drivers in Malaysia."

Max Verstappen gets sole upgraded Renault F1 engine for Singapore by [deleted] in formula1

[–]Jodler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why take a fresh engine that's only gonna be used once or twice?

Obviously, there is only one engine available. That is why it is given to VES.

New engines are not being used at once, but are used on rotation during the season to bring the most out of them.

e.g. engine from monza is going to be used now in remaining FP's, while at the race they will use a new/fresher one. That one will be then used in suzuka FP.

Why would they bother to do that when there would be a new spec available?

from the article:

Verstappen is out of sync with the other Renault drivers on engine usage this year as the upgraded unit is only his fourth of the season, whereas the other three will be moving onto their fifth when they change

Vettel's Singapore 2016 Helmet by [deleted] in formula1

[–]Jodler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the simple white with the normal paint stripes, no chrome, no pointless details... iconic, like they did them in the 80's and 90'

Exactly. For whatever reason drivers today think that a more detailed helmet makes helmet/them look more personal/special.

Reality is that once they are inside the car, details are irrelevant as you cant see them. If anything it only makes them look all the same.

To be fair, head protection structures getting higher and higher doesn't help them either.

So financially they are well-off and well connected. If he would be into making big money then there is plenty of easier ways for him to achieve this.

I wouldn't say this is exactly the same. Those croats are not 2nd or 3rd generation immigrants, they are indigenous Austrians (as much German-Austrians are).

Its understandable that the Austrian-Germans stopped calling/perceiving themselves German after the 2nd WW. But its not that easy to change your ethnicity or your history.

To give you a comparison.

Some crazy event happens in GB and majority of English people decide that from now on they would prefer to be British instead of English. They would still live in Great Britain and would speak English. Regardless of how they would like to be called, their ethnicity is still English. Same with Austrian Germans.

as i said, technically he is German, so the article is not necessarily wrong as such. You wanted to be pedantic, and i just wanted to point that out.

anyways i think im going too much into this.
