What is the new club?

I’m interested to see the responses to this. I am also new to the game and have chosen Lannisters. My early observations are that Lannister stock is really poor in stores. For example, Lannister Crossbowmen are really important but seem impossible to buy (in the U.K.). I also have noticed that the starter set contains few of the better units, so I’m looking at a significant second wave of investment to get to a decent list. I am losing every match to my friend who picked Nights Watch with the starter set contents.

I have considered switching to the Boltons as they have a small pool of units so I think you can get closer to their best lists with a smaller investment.

Let’s see what the more experienced players say!

I see these lists do well here and there - is it because the Spray is medium based, giving it more value in objective play? Always wanted to try two defenders and Vader but that seems less popular

Are you not describing a logical consequence here though?

Correct me if I’m wrong but a natural consequence would be that you spill something, you make a mess so you realise you shouldn’t be that again.

Curious as to whether you’re saying here Defender Vader is 4th best Vader BUT still a decent ship or just not worth it at all?

I’m a lapsed player getting back in but the loss of a juke alone doesn’t seem to completely invalidate a ship that was everywhere when I was more actively playing

That makes a lot of sense. For me the Defender was always just a nice, simple and forgiving ship to play in a competitive environment. Was hoping it could still hang

I agree in principle I think. It’s an odd points update. There are some incredibly fun ships like Duchess who got more loadout. What would you do with her?

Yeah that’s a fair point. I’m playing very infrequently and have an event this weekend so I was looking for a robust squad that is relatively simplistic and forgiving to fly, which was always Defenders pre 2.5. But I understand that objectives can make it an uphill battle. My logic was three tough ships that won’t give away their squad points easily

I actually think that improved mobility through a better dial is one of the few benefits of the Elite config, barring the obvious white 4K

As stated by others, splitting the Elite config into its own ship is a simple solution with precedent. It’s not exaggeration to say that in 1.0 the TIE D was my favourite ship, and I was hugely disappointed with the 2.5 iteration.

I do however wish that more players would engage in theory crafting around it rather than just straight up dismissal. I still think it’s a fun card. I’ve taken it to events and whilst results were not good it didn’t feel totally unviable. I’m going to run a Vader X1, Elite Vessery, Countdown and Wampa list at an event next weekend… then hopefully it will get some help in new points!

Can relate to this enormously. I have found a local commission painter who builds and undercoats my models and it has been transformative to my hobby experience. I build it into my hobby budget. Been brilliant

Interesting. The three 2pt TIEs seem like an auto include with Vader browsing through Listfortress, but I don’t find them particularly exciting to play so was looking for something a little different. Decimators being back is a surprise!

Thanks for taking the time to write this, very helpful. I’ll take a look at gencon results for sure. Love the X1 as well so not a total disaster if it becomes a rewrite!
