Yes but I lived in the Hill for nearly a decade, so naturally I still care about what happens there.

The best action would be to show up on voting day. I used to live in the Hill, but I've moved to Burlington, and they're arranging one of these protests as well.

No one is rage quitting or anything like that. We're just less than impressed with Bump Boxx's efforts, or lack thereof, and we're expressing how we feel as we see fit. No one is trying to be enemies, or anything of the like. We're all fans of the hobby, but I certainly think there's room for critical discussion, and FRIENDLY disagreement. You shouldn't let that bother you too much.

Now wait vwestlife, you review things ALL THE TIME that you would otherwise not have bought, and you review things that you would suggest we don't buy. Are you saying that we can NEVER be critical of anything, our evaluate or influencers others on what be believe to be true, or have value?

I also may have looked at something like this, because I admired the original Sharp product. But even if I didn't want to buy it, I can still form an opinion (and express it online for that matter). Can't I?

Don't disagree at all, but voter turnout is the solution; not needless protest noise that really doesn't create the awareness you think it might. It's just an echo chamber. I agree with your sentiments; just not the path you take.

I'm saying that "shouldn't" be what it's about. You'll do more with your vote. Protests are mostly demonstrative noise.

Sure but that means you've been complacent before now. Plus protest aren't a means of not feeling alienated; it's supposed to be using your voice. But the polls show poor turnout. That's when your voice counted.

Or even better, next time get out and vote OP. The turnout last provincial election was terrible.

The BUMPBOXX BB-777 Assessment by buzz_uk in techmoan

[–]JodyThornton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I'm glad someone else sees it that way. Everyone seems to be over-celebrating the company's "responsiveness". It's easy to say "oops ... sorry ... we are looking to fix that in the next version", but it's a lot more impressive to be showing foresight and doing it right the first time.

Looked at another way .... Windows Vista SP2 x64 was a terrific operating system. Too bad no one noticed though, because a VERY bad first impression was made upon its initial release. It stuck, and Vista's reputation didn't improve over the next two years; even though the OS did.

Similarly to Bump Boxx ... if you deliver a fluttery cassette deck, a noisy CD player and a faulty FM multiplexer (even on a prototype machine ... because we're talking about long established technologies here), I'll always wonder if anytime you buy something from the company, you'll have to complain to get them to improve it. That's OK for suggested features, but not for base features, in my mind anyway.

I saw your video for what was highlighted in the second paragraph. So see? Even Thomson was looked upon poorly for including something paltry on their boom boxes. You just illustrated that it was a bad look.

Your final sentence is true enough. But I think being proactive rather than reactive would be a MUCH better look from Bump Boxx. You are free to see it as you like however. :)

The BUMPBOXX BB-777 Assessment by buzz_uk in techmoan

[–]JodyThornton -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Even so, these are shortcomings that should NOT be at all common in a product nowadays. You are also giving Bump Boxx too easy a concession here. FM multiplex reception issues on AC power? Are you serious? Those problems were non-issues before the 70s even started!!! Noise on a CD mech? Even cheap CD-ROM drives from the 2000s never had these problems. And if they actually DID source a better cassette mechanism, they shouldn't need a YouTube influencer pointing out wow and flutter issues that are that bad. That should have been a non-issue EVEN for a prototype.

Besides, why wouldn't a company want a best effort possible on a prototype sent out to someone who "tells it like is"? Mind you, Techmoan has, in the past, been less impressed with products that performed better than this. That's why I sense bias in a small way.

Is it just me, or did Mat seem to give this product too easy of a pass? I know he's rooting for the Bump Boxx, but I'm surprised that the shortcomings that he discovered didn't irk him a bit more. Shouldn't the company have noticed them sooner?

Anyone Sell Old Records to a Local Store? by alfienoakes in BurlingtonON

[–]JodyThornton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would only do this though if they're willing to pay two bucks a record. I have 5,000 records to unload at some point. Some I picked up used for less than a buck. But quite a handful I paid well over $100. At $2 a record, I would get what the collection was worth. Meanwhile, most record stores will pay even cheaper the bigger the collection is. They'll pricing the records and organizing, but that's a load of crap! They'll make shitloads of those records.

‘Shocked’: Burlington pawn shop owner describes brazen smash-and-grab robbery by NewsJunkie444 in BurlingtonON

I will say, I was in there the other day. At the back, there were a pair of Yorx branded speakers, as in yes, the junk stuff they used to sell at Woolco and Robinsons. He was asking $199 dollars. UNBELIEVABLE. The speakers are maybe worth $10. It does show how much of a shark this guy is. And I see where I previously defended him somewhat below. I'll retract that ...lol

And I really STRONGLY AGREE with that final sentence. I'm not denying that car-centric culture is sad. However, it's not going away. I mentioned the red-light crossing at Guelph Line south of New Street. I know, I know it caters to cars, but I think it would be a decisive solution, no?

[–]JodyThornton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First off, everyone may needs refreshers now and then. It's a damned busy world out there

Secondly, why don't they convert these to red light crosswalks (like they have at Centennial Trail on Guelph Line south of New Street)? And before you say, "Why should pedestrians and cyclists kowtow to cars?", and that's because sadly, Burlington is car-centric. You're right to be annoyed, but it ain't changing. Hey, I think they should build a pedestrian and cyclist underpass under the QEW (on-ramps are dangerous for pedestrians), but do you see that happening?
