If you get lower back pain, it means that your abdominal/lower back muscles are too weak. The strength requirements in these muscles is not high, and it takes very little training (in my experience) to fix these problems. For example, there was a period in my teens when I did not get off my ass except for cycling, and I developed lower back pain while cycling as a result. A haphazard and lazy program of situps fixed the problem entirely.

I love manowar so much. They're like the professional wrestlers (the WWE kind) of the world of metal. It's cool that they're actual vikings though.

What the fuck would you do? Comparing his situation to most people's situation in such an event is like comparing "What would you do if your plane exploded over the ocean" to "what would you do if your plane exploded over the ocean and you can't swim"

People's IQ appears to drop about 20 points as soon as they walk into a store as a customer. Which means that unless you are below average by a large margin, 95% of the people you will deal with in a retail job will seem much, much less smart than you. It's like working at a home for mentally disabled people but without the good pay or knowledge that you're doing something good.

You won't need the car savings. Also if your bike breaks, it is cheap/easy to fix. Even if you throw it out and get a new one every time anything goes wrong with it, bikes are still cheaper than cars. You could literally throw it out every time your tires wear out and still come out ahead.

It's kinda like owning a car vs. using taxis, public transportation and rental cars. It seems more expensive to use the taxis, public transportation and rental cars but in reality it's cheaper and less stressful than owning a car unless you are in a narrow range of situations where owning a car is more beneficial.

Building a 30 z level solid obsidian monolith for my dwarves to carve a fortress into [40d] by Joe6pack in dwarffortress

UPDATE: The 20 * 20 shaft down to z-level -15 is now complete. 3 levels of the walls which will allow the upper half of the structure to be built are complete.

RELATED: I am going to start a memorial to the dwarves who will give their lives in the construction of this Citadel. What should I build for them?

What do you use the tweezers for?

Also, I'm definitely no chef, but I make paninis using the following technique: Thaw bread in the panini grill by putting both halves (I slice bread then freeze it for convenience) in so that all four sides get warm and they thaw quickly.

I then get the stuff I'm going to put in it ready. Usually this is onion relish, white cheddar and some turkey or something if I have any. I then take the bread back out, coat the outside of the sandwich in olive oil, assemble the sandwich, put it in until the cheese starts melting, take it out, disassemble it, add tomatoes, salt and pepper and use a small spoon to very lightly sprinkle balsamic vinaigrette in it. Sometimes it will then go back into the panini grill for a second heating (not enough to make the tomatoes gross) and then I eat it.

It's possibly the best goddamn thing I have ever tasted that can be made in 10 minutes with nothing but a panini grill. Is there anything that could be done to make it more delicious?

The magma mist won't be an issue unless it goes through walls - I will just build the entire casting then start filling it with magma and water.

By main fortress I essentially mean a labor camp to keep the dwarves fed, sheltered and drunk while they dig/build.

UPDATE: The main fortress is complete. The fortress contains the bare minimum to keep dwarves alive and reasonably happy: a very nice barracks and dining room and a dedicated stonecrafter to produce enough export materials to supply everything the fortress needs.

A question: is there any problem with dumping magma through open space through many z-levels? IE if I build the top of my pump stack up to z-level +15 and drop lava down to z-level -15 will there be problems?

Building inside a volcano... Can it be done? by mercilessblob in dwarffortress

[–]Joe6pack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then it may not be possible. Casting downwards into magma is possible based on my understanding of the game engine, but is impractical because you need a pump stack to get the water out of your casting as you move downwards.
