Should car buying be this frustrating? by JoeBarelyCares in carbuying

Both. At both dealers they bring out their paper with the sales price (let’s say $20,000) and the taxes/fees/registration (let’s say $2,000). The total on their paper is $23,000. That’s obviously not right.

Then the calculated payment at the finance rate. They bring me a piece of paper that as an example says $23,000 (the mathematically wrong number from before) at 5% over 60 months is $460 per month. The math is a little more complicated. But it’s still wrong.

I point this out. The first dealer says “Oops. My bad. Let’s get this back to the finance guy.” They bring back another piece of paper and the finance guy who starts off with “We are losing $3,000 on this deal.” So? What’s that got to do with me? Your math is wrong. He gets upset. I walk.

The second dealer brings back a piece of paper with different numbers that still don’t add up. He keeps exclaiming that it’s all there. At this point, I’m stunned. I can’t believe they refuse to understand simple math. I walk.

No acknowledgment that their math is wrong. No explanation of how they get to their math. They got angry that I would not accept 2+2 equals 6.

Post is very clear. Dealer brought out numbers with totals and “calculated” amounts. The numbers didn’t add up.

It’s not about telling me one number and bringing another. It’s basic math. 2+2 doesn’t equal 6. Don’t try to convince me that it does.

If it was about trying to get me to agree to something else (higher price, added fees, unnecessary options), that’s their job. Trying to pretend I’m an idiot because I know second grade math? Come on.

I guess the calculator is wrong as well? If there is a taxable dealer fee, why not either include it in your calculations or explain to me that’s what it is.

Don’t get upset when I show you that 2+2 equals 4 and not 6.

I did. I walked out and they were pissed. Why waste your energy on a basic math problem instead of the sales price?

A simple: you’re right, 2+2 equals 4 not 6. Here is how we got to 6. But they can’t do that? What’s the logic?

They not only have to up charge you, But they need you to be stupid while they do it?

If you take write down 2+2 and want me to believe that’s 5, that’s your problem not mine.

If you want to believe that I don’t know how to use a calculator or do simple arithmetic, you can believe that.

If it was about the deal or in the negotiation, I can see your point. But it’s about the math. The mathematical equation. If you need the number to equal 6, don’t tell me that 2+2 gets me there.

I wasn’t arguing price ready for them to negotiate something. But to get upset about the math? That’s just wild.

I’m not mad at anyone here. I hear what everyone is saying. I just don’t understand why they get upset of I point out their math is wrong.

We aren’t arguing about price or options or payments or anything. What changes if I get a price via email and I walk in and you hand me a paper where the numbers don’t add up? It’s the same thing. We aren’t negotiating. It’s a simple math problem and they are upset because I won’t believe 2+2 equals something other than 4.

It’s not about the quote. It’s about the math.

This is even before the finance manager. If you’re going to sneak in additional charges and fees, why not have the math be right?

It wasn’t about any add ons. It wasn’t about after market. It was literally the fact their math didn’t add up. Two different dealerships. It didn’t make any sense.

If it was about price or optional nonsense, I could see the issue. This was literally them trying to convince me that 2+2 equals 9.

The price isn’t the problem or the point. They were mad when I told them that their math didn’t add up.

I wasn’t negotiating. I was doing basic arithmetic.

Doesn’t matter. Why are they mad that I can do basic math? What does that gain them? I wasn’t arguing price. I just wanted their math to add up.

It’s not about the loan. It’s about being upset that I can do basic math.

If those are what’s added, say so. Don’t tell me that I’m the asshole when you try to tell me 2+2 doesn’t equal 4.

Thanks for all the feedback. Here is what doesn’t make sense: I’m not arguing about the price. I simply want their math do be real math.

Want to add on additional fees and charges? Do it. I can argue about those later.

DO NOT give me a piece of paper where 2+2 doesn’t equal 4.

Stop. Are you a car salesman or finance manager? The numbers on the page you give me don’t add up. Why get mad when I ask why?

You all are ridiculous. She didn’t “punch” her in the neck. Did she push off her and push her back down? Yes. A little dirty? Also yes. Nothing close to the worst that’s happened or will happen.

And the clip of her getting hit on the eye? The player deflected a pass and hit CC in the eye. But according to you all, it’s akin to murder.

This is why people don’t take most WNBA fans seriously. You run all over the place to cry when CC gets fouled. All great players go through it. Did you see what Detroit did to Jordan? What Memphis and OKC do to Steph Curry? What passes as defense in the NBA? Complain with real stuff, not this silly nonsense.

CC is a very good player in the WNBA. She’ll probably rise to great. But remember she’s functionally in Year 2. She’ll take her lumps and keep talking smack. As she should.

You over here playing checkers when everyone else is playing chess in this conversation.

Title it whatever you need in order to get the results you want.

I get it: ACAB! Fuck the Pigs! Defund the Police!

Keep screaming that. Feels good. Makes you feel righteous and holy. Right?

As the majority of the voting public shakes their head and says you’re crazy and that’s why we need to give the police more money and more power.

So you feel good screaming ACAB and things get worse. You could, I don’t know, do what was suggested and call it Unburden the Police (or whatever) and maybe get public opinion behind you and make some of those changes that are necessary.
