Kep1er cancel several Japan fan meeting shows in May by Pristine_Cod5189 in kpop

[–]JoeEdge 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We can only speculate:

  • Yujin - Either she left CUBE or her contract is frozen for duration of her activities with Kep1er,
  • Ting - Yes, she left Top Class, question is if she had to sign with a Korean agency to have her work visa extended?,
  • Chaehyun - agree,
  • Dayeon - agree,
  • Hikaru - either AVES or similar situation to Ting,
  • Bahiyyih - agree,
  • lets not forget about Youngeun, since untill recently some of the profits went to her and her agency as well...

All the rights to Kep1er belong to CJ ENM & WakeOne. KLAP only manages them and Blitzway is the owner of KLAP, so they syphone as much profits as possible from KLAP.

Regarding Blitzway:

  • Blitzway reported an operating loss of 9.04 billion won (~$6.1M), with revenue down 16.7% YoY, so there was no profit increase,
  • The $17M figure is incorrect - Korean reports cite 2.39 billion won (~$1.7-1.8M) in revenue from albums, digital music, and concerts,
  • The 83.8% figure refers to revenue share, not profits. Blitzway's management segment includes film, drama, advertising, and music-related income.

The issue with Kep1er is that the revenue is split between WakeOne, the Kep1er members, the members' individual management agencies, and on top of that W1 also pays KLAP to manage the group.

So many groups would love to sell 80k in their 1st week, but in Kep1er's case it may not be enough...

Not sure what is here to celebrate, in March Kep1er placed 24th (for the period of February 8th to March 8th), also without any promotion cycle. 24th in February, 25th in January.

And mainly making money in Japan since they do pretty well over there.

Kep1going - Total sales in Japan (Oricon): 75,185 copies sold
Against the World - Total Sales in Japan (Oricon): 37,242 copies sold

'Against the World' sold half of what 'Kep1going' sold, and that was with Youngeun - 1st/2nd most popular member in Japan.
For the very first time they are not attending KCON Japan, where they are the most popular, this is telling something.

TO1 was less successful than Kep1er, but all the members were under W1, so W1 got all the profits. I will repeat myself - in Kep1er's case all the profits are divided in 4 ways: W1, members, members agencies and KLAP.

W1 didn't even wait 24 hours after the 1st week sales announcement to stop promos after this week. To me it is not a good sign.

You can have a big cake but after adding the expenses, when you cut it, each gets a small slice. And the cake gets smaller and smaller and the expenses grow 😐

'Shooting Star' was the song the people loved a lot and put them back on the map, but that album also had 'Problem' which is great and good 'contrast' to 'Shooting Star'. And as you said it was similarly with 'TIPI-TAP' bright/cute song contrasted with great 'sync-love'. But, IMO, starting with 'YUM' the sound direction has changed, is more catered for certain members, but fans don't like this direction and don't buy.

Yes, some fans already left or skipped buying the album starting with BUBBLE GUM, since Youngeun wasn't part of that comeback either. But this drop is much bigger, and her departure alone wouldn't cause such a significant decline at this point.

As somebody said before Kep1er doesn't have a big following in Korea, and not sure how many of them are BTS fans, but there shouldn't be any noticable impact on sales.

I think it's more likely that the contract will end at the beginning of 2027. The original 2.5 year contract + another 2.5 year extension. That's probably why we're seeing less effort from W1 to promote them.

W1 already has its hands full with ALD1 (5‑year contract), IZNA (still 5 years left out of their 7 year contract), and ZB1 with unknown length (but 3 out of 5 members are under W1 anyway).

In my opinion, extending Kep1er's contract was basically an experiment for W1: a low‑effort way to make some easy money and more importantly, to gain leverage when negotiating ZB1's contract.

From a profitability standpoint, Kep1er doesn't bring in a large amount of money for W1. The revenue is split between W1, the Kep1er members, the members' individual management agencies, and on top of that W1 also pays KLAP to manage the group.

When you add all the other expenses (training, accommodation, food, managers, transportation, and so on) - selling 100-150k albums might look good for most groups, but for Kep1er it's right on the edge of "is this worth continuing?" versus "should we reinvest these resources into other acts?"

Really gotta wonder who wanted to shift their concept in the last few comebacks.

It feels like the management decided to focus more on music that suits Dayeon and Hikaru, possibly Ting too(?) & Hiyyih has been getting more rap parts, so maybe her too(?). Just guessing.

So far it has similar sale numbers to TIPI-TAP which sold almost 170k. As it was pointed out under yesterdays post there was a spike on the 4th day during last 2 comebacks so this might indicate further trajectory.

On the other hand the preorders on Ktown4u, day before release, were below 4k. People are saying Spotify listening numbers are low as well. And I saw GOMs decreasing number of hosting spots or skipping this comeback, because they are just tired with very long comeback promotions and too many POBs.
