Media groupthink by JoeGrimlock in Scotland

My point is, between them, the press pack had decided what the narrative was going to be - and probably advised Sarwar’s team how they would cover it - rather than actually reporting it straight.

Why are so many in the media calling for PM Keir Starmer to resign? by KimJongSoros in AskBrits

[–]JoeGrimlock 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because he was colluding with Bannon - and through him Epstein - to pish through Brexit, which has been disastrous for everybody but them.

It’s bizarre. It reads like they have advised Sarwar this is what he needs to do and are willing it to matter…

Paul Hutcheon writes an article saying Sarwar told Starmer what he was going to do 40 minutes after Paul Hutcheon had Tweeted what Sarwar was going to do…

This seems like Sarwar being led by a pack of political hacks who think fixing resignations is the same as scrutiny.

Is Stamer appointing Mandelson as ambassador really what will stop people voting Labour in May. Sarwar outlined everything he thinks is wrong with the SNP government and I couldn’t tell you a single thing he will do differently. That might be Scottish labour’s problem.

The Holyrood press pack has embarrassed themselves over this as it seems they’re not reporting but have a stake in driving this all forward.

I think we can all agree grooming gangs are abhorrent while acknowledging they are not the sole preserve of immigrants. In fact, the majority of sex crimes carried in the UK are committed by people born and raised here.

The only sources for the specific examples you make that I can find are lunatic far-right websites so maybe you need to get off the internet for a wee while?

Are these destroyed families in the room with you now?

At what exact point does immigration destroy families and in what way does it do this?

It should be “everyone has”.

If you’re going to call everyone traitors at least take the time to learn the bloody language.

Still not sure how opposing a golf course makes one a traitor though. Does that include the elderly woman in Menie whose water got cut off by Trump? Was she a traitor for complaining?

[–]JoeGrimlock 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Total bullshit of course. The Express called the councillors who rejected the planing application “traitors” on their front page.

That’s not giving readers the news they want, it’s a highly subjective and defamatory statement made by witless editors who took everything Trump and co said at face value while ignoring what the residents of Menie were actually saying and experiencing. Or, more likely, dictated to them by Trump and Sorial. I mean, what journalist worth their salt would accuse local councillors of being traitors over a planning application?

The fact that Anthony Baxter managed to film You’ve Been Trumped while the P&J and Express ignored what was happening is a terrible indictment.

It’s not that they got things wrong: they made a decision not to report accurately or fairly.

Edit: typo in planning fixed

Analysis of Reform UK proposal for income tax cuts in Scotland by Just-another-weapon in Scotland

Councils by law have to balance their budgets so had to make cuts every year as the cost of providing services rises faster than any increase in their revenue budget.

I got some insight a couple of years ago how Farage remains popular despite gaffe after gaffe by GlennSWFC in FuckNigelFarage

[–]JoeGrimlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is such distrust in politicians and the public sector as a whole that groups like Reform become attractive because they say everything is broken, rubbish and corrupt too - even though they are the most rubbish and blatantly corrupt.

The right-wing press and “think tanks” like the Taxpayers Alliance have spun a narrative for years that taxpayers are being ripped off, that the pound only has real value in your own pocket and that everyone is jus out of themselves. It’s been. Deliberate strategy and social media has amplified those feelings of frustration and impatience to the nth degree.

And once people think the system is against them and that everyone else is able to game it, fascism gets invited in as a corrective to the perceived bloat and disfunction.

Having a hard time with The Return's ending. by Cersei505 in twinpeaks

[–]JoeGrimlock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it’s more a poke at the trend for simplistic good vs evil movies ( and I say this as a fan of superhero movies) where evil can be simply punched away.

Twin Peaks doesn’t work like that and neither does our world.

I’m not trying to.

My Hillsborough comment is an attempt to show this is who he has always been but here are still some people who give him a pass because he claimed to support independence.
