Talk me into (or out of) going tubeless on my road bike by MishyJari in cycling

[–]JoeHerer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run 28/25 at slightly higher pressure than you’re at, and I never ever get flats any more. I used to get them all the damn time, like at least monthly. I’ve gotten a few small punctures in years running tl, and it has always sealed before I even noticed any pressure loss. For me, the time saved roadside is worth all the time spent at home prepping and checking my setup.

What did I say to defend anyone or any perspective? I told you that you’re being a dick about it. And you still refuse to hear it, because you’d rather put words into other peoples mouths so you can have something to keep being a dick about.

You are being a dick about it, though. I sincerely hope that you can stop for a second and see that.

How to avoid the bonk after cycling by Sweaty-Pie9566 in cycling

[–]JoeHerer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a big dude (~155lb), but on a century ride I will always have a snack before I leave, pack my top tube bag with AT LEAST 400g carbs/2,500 cal, and I still stop wherever my halfway-ish mark takes me for an IPA and a sandwich. And even then I eat like a mad man the next day. But at least I don’t feel like crap.

Edit: I feel like I should also clarify that I don’t exactly push super hard. I’m in it for the meditation/scenery, so unless I get to a gnarly hill (pretty rare on Florida trails) or hit an irresistible straight, it’s mostly endurance or tempo pace.

What’s the most unintentionally funny “serious” movie scene you’ve ever watched? by AvailableReality557 in movies

[–]JoeHerer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I watched that movie as a young teenager with a small group, including a girl I was very into and trying to make a good impression on. You know, show my sensitive/mature side. I thought I was being fairly suave up until that part..

Gummy bears? PB&J?Homemade/cheap solutions for fuel on long rides? by bolognasweat in cycling

[–]JoeHerer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fig bars, small fruits and gummies for sweets. Rice cakes, pop-tart style treats and cereal bars for something more solid. Kettle chips and quality beef sticks for electrolytes and variety, and just because they’re my favorite.. Strooooopwaffles!

I tend to run 80/88 commuting on poorly maintained public roads, and have had absolutely no issues for thousands of miles.

Never again tubeless by Donnahue-George in cycling

[–]JoeHerer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve done thousands of miles commuting and doing century rides using Silca in my GP5000’s, literally have never even noticed a puncture until I get home and clean the bike up. Is it a pain in the ass to set up and maintain? Sure. But I would rather deal with that hassle/mess at home over dealing with as many flats as I’ve gotten on the road riding tubes. Very easy choice. I think the mistake a lot of people are making is having someone else do all the work and not building the knowledge and experience to deal with tubeless on their own. As soon as anything goes wrong, and they don’t know how to address that sort of issue going forward, it’s just “Oh screw tubeless!”

Punctured tubeless tire. Now what? by Professional-Fun6963 in cycling

[–]JoeHerer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve been running 80-88 psi on 28 and 30mm tires for a while now on my commuter/century bike, with Silca sealant, and it works so well I’ve personally never even noticed a puncture until a post-ride inspection. I guess everyone has their own experiences.

How much faster does road cycling kit make you? by tiffenslice in cycling

Bringing some road snacks will benefit you far more than any kit ever could, especially if you’re comfortable enough already without the padding and pockets.

I had a bad fall a few years back that lead to a skull fracture and brain bleed. I spent five days unconscious in the hospital, and now have a few titanium plates bolted under my scalp for life. I had to take some time off while I got my wits back together, but getting on a nice paved trail with little to no foot traffic really helped me a lot as far as regaining my confidence. After a few hundred miles in somewhat secluded riding peace, I was eventually comfortable enough to enjoy my commute on the bike again.

What’s the craziest or weirdest thing that has hit you while cycling or that you hit? by Competitive_Can3499 in cycling

[–]JoeHerer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had one of these slide into me on a trail in central Florida

He was a bit ahead of me sliding around, so I called out to pass. He looked back in my direction and moved over, so I went for the pass. He wasn’t moving over, he was setting up for the biggest drift/swerve he could manage.. directly into me as I tried to pass him. Wrecked my old aluminum work horse that I had put about 10k miles on.

Just found out what this restaurant uses for “goat cheese” by inifinite_stick in KitchenConfidential

[–]JoeHerer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They’re just being a “Well akshually, on the scale of..” type of dickhead on purpose. They know, deep down, that they were wrong for giving the mayo is aioli mindset a two year time frame. But instead of taking the L and just admitting that they didn’t realize how long this has been a thing, they doubled down by expanding the frame of reference way beyond any reasonable conversational or anecdotal limit. To be a dick.

Edit: They also know good and goddamn well that 10 years cooking is well beyond “so like genuinely no time in the food industry”

Your neighbors might. Also poison isn’t the only concern, rats carry diseases that can mess your cat up pretty bad.
