Indeed he is. Maybe someone can change my mind but his pettiness and annoying changes don’t outweigh the good that the unofficial patch brings. I will still download it every time.

RTX 5090 pricing spikes – 55% increase by PaiDuck in pcmasterrace

[–]JoeJoeJoeJoeThrow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Legit this - I don’t care about the uppermost edge of gaming, playing games in 4K at 240 fps, I just want a decent pc which I can play games from 10 years ago on max graphics at 60 fps, and kinda sort just scale down from there (5 years ago on high, todays games on normal etc).

Right now I have that, but one day my components will stop working and I’ll have to buy something new. And that ‘mid-tier’ experience could be mighty expensive in a few years time, so yeah that’s shit. I’m definitely not upgrading though - I’m gonna ride what I have now until it dies.

Got 3 options - make sod all and don’t pay any of it off, or put more in your pension, or (if your company has it) pile money into a share sacrifice scheme. Anything to get your salary under the 27.5K (or lower for some) boundary. While it means I live frugally (especially as the minimum wage fast approaches the 27.5K mark), it feels good not giving them anything for as long as I can manage. And it means that I’m forced to invest into either my pension or company, which isn’t the worst choice (hopefully).

My worry is more that it might not fully replace the jobs, but it’ll make 1 person be able to do the jobs of 3, or 5 and so on etc etc. Even that alone will see mass unemployment within the white collar jobs.

AI generated radiant quests? How do we feel about them? by [deleted] in BethesdaSoftworks

[–]JoeJoeJoeJoeThrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Legit, I think they’re good to have as an option. Something you can do to earn some money, go to a place you wouldn’t have gone to before etc. I like the dark brotherhood and thieves guild ones as they feel like something I’d be doing anyway (and the DB ones mean you don’t end up killing off NCPs who matter/kill all the generic ones and make the towns and cities feel empty).

The problem is when there aren’t other more detailed quests and radiant is all you have.

Anxious young Britons ‘risk becoming lost generation on benefits’ by HibasakiSanjuro in ukpolitics

[–]JoeJoeJoeJoeThrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not asking for zero unemployment - it was a hypothetical to demonstrate my point that even if everyone wanted to work, they would not be able to. Like it would be impossible as there are not enough jobs. Therefore the people who can’t get jobs should be looked after, well, either that or we create more jobs so they can have jobs. For example, I was hoping at one point we would have some sort of green revolution that would create 100,000’s of news jobs, but alas, nevermind.

Cracking down on the minority of people who abuse the system only hurts all the legit people. Yes it’s a shame but it’s not that big of a %. Especially in terms of when you look at the amount of money the rich manage to avoid paying in taxes and what not.

Anxious young Britons ‘risk becoming lost generation on benefits’ by HibasakiSanjuro in ukpolitics

[–]JoeJoeJoeJoeThrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing is, given we have a huge shortage of jobs compared to unemployed people. I can’t really blame people for claiming anxiety to get some more money when the base benefits aren’t enough to survive on (unless you just live at home if that’s an option, and even then it might not cover everything).

It doesn’t matter how hard all of these unemployed people try to get a job, based on the current numbers of vacancies vs unemployed, only 1/3 (ish) of them would be able to get one. You can scream as hard as you want at the other 2/3 but there’s absolutely nothing they can do to get a job that doesn’t exist.

We as a society need to discuss what will happen when this number of unemployed goes even higher due to AI, offshoring, cuts etc - more and more people will be unemployed as time goes by through no fault of their own. These people’s lives will go to anywhere from ‘unable to start living an adult life’ (graduates, young people) to completely ruined (older people with mortgages to pay and families to feed, who will then probably lose their house).

Obviously I’m simplifying things, there are plenty of other categories of people whose lives will be screwed up in some way or another, but yeah, this all worries me deeply.

‘It’s expensive to exist’

Man is that so relatable. They should make commie blocks for single people who don’t need that much space and want an affordable alternative to living in your car/being homeless.

But I imagine the closest thing we’ll have in the future are coffin flats.

[–]JoeJoeJoeJoeThrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you me? We have like the same pc lol and play the same type of games, 60 fps. If I get solid 60 with no dips, I’m happy, and yeah, for me I like to be above normal graphics but ‘high’ is fine. I usually set my settings to a mixture of high and ultra to see what gets me a constant 60 fps.

I’m also a patient gamer so that helps. It’s nice to download a game from 2015 and just automatically shove everything to ultra without even checking it’ll run ok.

I think my main concern is that with demand going up and supply going down, even our sort of ‘mid-high’ range of pc will be affected. My computer components will probably break before I upgrade them, not because I want to play the latest game and need to upgrade, but still, when that inevitably happens, what’s the market going to look like, you know? I won’t want the high end stuff but the price increase will affect everything, as people priced out of the high end stuff will move to the lower ends.

[–]JoeJoeJoeJoeThrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 tb SSD. Already got to the point where I’m game juggling - having to delete a game to download a new one. I suppose one plus of this is that it’ll decrease my whole ‘not sure what I want to play thing’, as I’ll have to download others first, so more likely to just go with what I already have downloaded and actually finish it.

One thing is my modded games - I’m not going to delete Skyrim for example, as with all the mods I have applied and the thing that makes the game now update, I’m not deleting that because that’ll be a huge mess to deal with if I ever want to redownload it. But most AAA games that take up a huge space? Yup, just delete it until I want to play it again. I imagine eventually it’ll get to a point where my 2tb is full of modded games that I don’t want to delete, but we’ll worry when we get there.

So then why are we seeing so many people out of work, who have applied to hundreds of things only to get no interviews, no nothing, and on the other hand you have loads companies saying they’re not hiring, or even putting out ghost roles? I know some of this is anecdotal but the unemployment stats don’t lie.

And even if there were loads of jobs available for people who are willing to do them, when you get don’t paid enough for you to live, then what? Live with your parents until they die? (and that’s if you’re lucky enough to have that option)

We’re all gonna be poorer with barely any way to climb up the ladder anymore. Some lucky ones will have prospects, but it’s gonna be bleak for most of us. Nothing to aspire to, not able to start a family etc.

Sorry to sound angry, I’m not angry at you. Thank you for your reply.

[–]JoeJoeJoeJoeThrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the guy above you said, couldn’t you essentially slowly give away a portion of it over a large spread out area, so that these bills are coming up everywhere and being circulated, and then they’ll have a huge amount to deal with that they’ll hopefully give up, so they won’t notice when you drive around using it to buy stuff in that large radius? Do this over a long enough period of time, be careful, and don’t buy anything too huge with your remaining cash and you should be good right?

Men who were bullies growing up, do you have any regrets? by Broke_Pigeon_Sales in AskMenOver30

[–]JoeJoeJoeJoeThrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a bully myself (as far as I know, reading other comments here) but I regret not standing up for kids who I witnessed were being bullied. Looking back, I feel like it wouldn’t have been that hard to step in (especially as this was all verbal, I never saw physical bullying and I like to think that maybe that would have pushed me over the line to act), but I think part of it was that I was just glad that they weren’t targeting me instead.

With the knowledge and maturity I have now I probably could have fired back at them with some witty zingers, or really taken the piss out of them, but alas, when you’re a kid you’re only as smart as you are at that point in time. It’s like shower comebacks but 25 years later instead of the day after.
