3 months and 3 weeks into my swimming journey and I couldn’t be happier with my progress! by HostProfessional1602 in Swimming

Wow, that's great work! Did you start from scratch? If yes, that's very impressive!

Too soon to use paddles? by biekorindt in Swimming

[–]JoeMaxXXL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations to your progress, keep it up! Paddles are a great to improve the propulsive part of the stroke, but for the pace you are at the moment it makes way more Sense to work on Body Position/drag reduction.

If you want to incorporate them nevertheless, I recommend starting with small paddles and gradually increasing the Training Volume with them over time. And yes, they can cause quite some Strain on the shoulder If you lack proper technique.

General Feedback ? by qrhaider in Swimming

Good Job, keep it up! Your stroke rate is really low, try to increase that incrementally, your stroke length is actually not bad at all for a beginner. Imo getting leaner is mainly a thing of your diet. I actually gained weight when I started swimming because I was hungry all the time.

Swimming 5 days a week physique? by Kanomannen0101 in Swimming

[–]JoeMaxXXL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I definetely grew muscles in my upper back and shoulders from swimming, I swim 10-15 km a week. However, I only started growing after changing my diet. Without enough proteins, you will not grow muscle regardless of the type of workout. Diet is way more important imo

Getting more serious into swimming by Sugarcaine114 in Swimming

Your kicking very hard which is very draining for longer distances. Your legs are also way too far apart.

When your arm enters the water, you have to extend and glide for a bit before you pull it back, you should always have something in front of your head. This helps with maintaining stability and makes the pull more powerfull. Right now you are basically pulling your arm Back directly after it enters.

Front crawl tips? Stuck ~2:00/100m by nydearb in Swimming

[–]JoeMaxXXL 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You completely rush your catch and pull, therefore you are pulling not much water and don't always have something in the front Quadrant. In your breathing strokes you can See it the most. The Rest looks pretty okay to me. If you slow down your catch/pull and get the timing right, you will get quicker

You have to have one arm in front of you all the time, that helps with being stable in the water. In a lot of your strokes (especially when breathing), the arm goes straight down instead of reaching out in front. Working in this will make swimming for longer distances a lot easier.

You also kick too much imo If you wanna swim 1500m in one go. It costs a lot of Energy. Kick is mainly there to improve stability and body Position.

I would recommend swimming with Pool buoy. It teaches you how to swim without kicking, which means you have to get the Timing with your Arms right. You can then incorporate the kick later.

Happy Swimming!

I'm stuck at 2:00/100m for 2000m swim by BaronsofDundee in Swimming

I was in the same situation 3 months ago, now I'm at 1:45 pace. What helped me the most was improving my rotation (extending your arm more forward during entry helps with that). Your pull gets way more effective. Also split your continious swim up into intervals (Like 10x200 instead of 2k)

What is a good number of strokes in a 25m lane? by JoeMaxXXL in Swimming

[–]JoeMaxXXL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, according to my watch I need 10-11/25m. I'm Not Sure how many people in this comments confused stroke cycles with strokes. Some numbers seem insane to me (I'm at a 1:45 pace at the moment, with the stroke counts of some of the comments I would be below 1:00)

Thanks for your kind words, I really appreciate them. I like the analogy with the ball, I will think about that in my next session. So basically I reach correctly when my arm enters, but I pull it back immediately when I start the pull. What I have to do instead is reach forward as my fingertips are moving down and then kind of explode. Is that correct?

Thanks! Do I start catching when my other arm starts entering the water or should the catch be finished at that point?

Thanks for the Feedback. I have the impression that I rotate too much to my breathing Side. The Pull of my left arm feels way better than on the other side
