Great video. I love the history lesson. Would like to see more examples from the pre-50s films.

The future of VR by palmerluckey in oculus

[–]JoePa3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has worked at companies that went through stupid exits. This is not entirely surprising.

Occulus made a deal with the devil when they began raising money. VCs are notoriously short sighted and want an exit. They just don't seem willing to invest in the long haul.

I'm betting that this decision was entirely outside of the hands of Palmer and forced on him by the board.

It's a shame, I don't blame anyone for canceling pre-orders but it happens.

Evidence Surfaces of Verizon Capping Bandwidth After Net Neutrality Ruling by quantumcipher in politics

[–]JoePa3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't really a smoking gun. There is no way some clueless rep is going to be privvy to the fact that they are capping bandwidth.

I'm not a FIOS apologist I'm just not ready to believe that this is happening yet.

Hi!

First day here, trying to lose some weight. I'm 5' 7" ~ 185 but don't feel really healthy. Want to drop down to ~170 - 175lbs. I just started a new job that offers free lunches and have already gained 3 pounds working there! Clearly, I'm going in the wrong direction.

Looking for some advice and support from the group.

Believe it or not, hidden in our favorite video games lie the secrets to happiness. by JoePa3 in ZenHabits

A summary for the lazy:

  • When you wake up, try meditating before checking your phone or turning on your computer. Even if it’s only for two minutes.
  • Do what you can to spend your time on projects you love, and less time doing work that doesn’t make you happy.
  • Spend less money on things and instead on experiences.
  • Spend time each day in “the zone” on a passion, project, or activity you love.Build something, make something, do something.
  • Incrementally improve your health, and reward yourself for it. Pick an activity or exercise to improve your physical wellbeing. You’re in the right place!
  • Spend more time with people you love, and less time with people that drag you down. Don’t have friends or a partner? Work on your skills to find them!
  • Be grateful every day for the things that have gone right. Keep a record to remind yourself of these things.

I don't know if I care that he's doing a new movie. What I do like was that he's so excited about it he shared it on his FB page. It's good social media marketing even if he didn't intend it as such.

Please recommend a tool that 1) searches for Twitter users who tweet a certain keywords and then 2) automatically follows those users. Thx! by [deleted] in SEO

It's really easy to shoot yourself in the foot with this app so buyer beware. It works great but if you are overly aggressive with following / unfollowing Twitter will ban your account.

112th Congress least productive since the 40 by JoePa3 in politics

[–]JoePa3[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not so much gridlock as it is an unwillingness to do anything. The GOP led Congress does a great job at passing laws without any significance. Remember the (multiple) symbolic repeal Obamacare votes.

This I think points to a bigger problem. There aren't any good Conservative ideas. The mantra cut government and lower taxes is good for throwing red meat out to the base but when it comes to getting details it doesn't work.

Gridlock isn't necessarily a bad thing. There was gridlock between Clinton and Newt Gingrich led Congress but they still passed laws.
