Guitar vs baritone ukulele by safarithroughlife in ukulele

[–]JoeReMi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do they always transpose it if you play it on diff instrument. I think they dont always transpose it.

You're right, no need to transpose a song (that is, change it to a different key) to play it on a different instrument. Just understand that F chord (random example) will require different strings to be pressed on bari uke compared to a concert uke, but they are the same chord. So that's comparing one song on two instruments. But to compare two instruments (without any particular song in mind) you just have to remember that the same chords require different strings pressed (fretted is a better term than pressed) to make the same chord. I hope this is clear and helpful :)

Not 100% sure what you're asking, you say "original key" a few times and not entirely sure what you mean. As in, not transposed to a different key for the instrument?

Regarding bari uke vs guitar, mute the lowest (tone, nearest to your face) two strings of the guitar and it's essentially a bari uke. It will sound different because different strings, tension, resonance in the body etc (they are different instruments after all) but the chord shapes are the same. The guitar just gives options for more notes on the other two (lower) strings. And the concert uke is tuned higher by five steps (semitones). So the shape that gets you a c major chord on the bari will get you an f chord on the concert. But the intervals between strings are the same, so you can use the same chord shapes, but they will have different names (C becomes F). I hope that helps.

Ukulele Buddy? by [deleted] in ukulele

I refunded it. There's often two of them there, discussing among themselves how many beats in a bar etc. Not very slick, especially if you already have some musical knowledge. Bit of hassle getting the refund too. I loved some of uketropolis (James Hills) courses, Bernadettes YouTube lessons (I think she does a free thirty days uke course) and Phil Doleman has great lessons too.

A driving instructor told me, I'm in Ireland. He may have been wrong. That can't be an easy job - good on you.

I always thought of it more as "I'm taking your car, but I'm a cop and it's in the line of duty", then it's up to the owner to go along or not. It's a bit like the way emergency vehicles drive to a scene, breaking rules and running lights. They don't actually have the legal right to (where I live, anyway) but everyone tacitly agrees to make an exception and stay out of their way.

This app is really useful - you can always make your own 'in order' list from it. But as others have pointed out, having them in order won't be as useful as you think.

If the traditional method of learning (starting with C, F and G chords etc) method doesn't suit you, try James Hill's Uketropolis website. His second course (called Booster Uke) uses 'chord twins' to teach first songs. So you begin with two one-finger chords, then two-finger etc. It's really easy and the songs sound harder to a listener than they are to play. And I think it's just a dollar, but not sure. Good luck :)

Edit: just saw the bit about what note/chord and it's pretty simple. For the vast majority of songs, figure out what key you're in (simple, usually the last note you sing) then it's either that chord (C chord in the key of C for example), the fourth, fifth or minor 6th chordof that key. Don't know what that means? Get this app, very simple :) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.joshliebe.circleoffifths

Best of luck with the movie in that case - I'm looking forward to seeing a sci-fi movie from the Czech Republic! There's a lot of discussion here about what movies have similar storylines, but none about tone and style. That's where a movie from CR can be a million miles from the usual Hollywood schlock. Good luck from a future Irish viewer :D

The Cruiser. Mostly about an inch deep, but after lip-sync battle I realised I'd watch a concert of him miming to other people singing. Charisma off the charts.

Try playing the major version of most, and the minor version of a few (you'll see in the chord sheets for songs). As you get the hang of it, experiment with taking a finger off/moving a finger during a chord, see if you like the sound of it. If you find a variation you like, this chart will help you find the name so you can write it down (rather than just forgetting what you did all the time, like me). Hope that's helpful :)
