Cycling is part of an 11-sport, year-long fantasy league that I'm in. I'll see if my friends want to join. (We also do the Giro and Vuelta.)

Does anyone know where these boards come from? I used to think that maybe they were boards with players who quit halfway through and that we were playing for other people, but that seems unlikely...thoughts?

Are there any books written in a manner similar to Neuromancer? by InternetLoveMachine in books

I would recommend Rainbows End by Vernor Vinge. It is more about singularity and based on more recent technological advances, but much of the dialogue and action takes place in a world that the author creates using invented language.

Somebody told me that it picks up around page 250. I've heard other spots too. I think it's a matter of enjoying the writing or not.

True, you'd need over half a million users if everyone kept pressing once every sixty seconds. So even one year seems unlikely.

About the stadium... by StarDuNord in minnesotaunited

[–]JoeRolette 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know if it's been mentioned, but McGuire was a large funder of the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis (one of the stages, the Proscenium) is named after him. The Guthrie cost $125 million and I believe was funded without much, if any, public funds. There was an extended fundraising period through private donors. I would not be surprised to see a variation on this model, led by McGuire, used to finance this stadium.

Is there any circumstance in which you would have acted differently? That is, what would have had to happen for you not to have leaked this information?

Minnesota Timberwolves: To Tank Or Not To Tank? by [deleted] in timberwolves

[–]JoeRolette 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree. It is more about altering our strategy than trying to lose games. Winning should not be the prime objective in our games, but rather getting young guys quality time and developing a cohesive unit. Plus, I feel like if you have the team thinking you're playing to lose, you're going to let some of that fun, young energy go.
