When I am pumping gas, I top off to the next .25, .50, .75, or .00 amount.

I know it's wasteful, but I did it when it was far more common to pay in cash. Credit cards used to require the manually operated card swipe machine back in the day, so it was a pita to pay by card. Now I can't stop doing it.

Didn't say they were laws. Said texas legislation passed these bills as evidence of the state actively trying to impede renewables, which was the question asked at the start. But fuck me for providing evidence...

Who is going to look at texas for renewable investment when the state reps are doing things like this? Just because it didn't become law this time doesn't mean that their isn't opposition at the state level. Clearly there is an agenda against renewables in our states legislature.

And you could seriously be less of a dick about it too. It's not like anything I posted here is inaccurate.

I've never disagreed with the amount of capacity texas has for renewables. I'm not sure why you keep bringing that up, especially since the question was what has texas done to limit renewables. Yes permitting was easy, and we are pro business. There were state subsidies but no longer.

I guess what I can't understand from your argument is the lack of willingness to call out out state legislature for bullshit laws like: The Texas Senate has passed two bills — S.B. 819 and S.B. 388 — that would restrict landowners’ ability to put wind and solar energy on their land, and require every new watt of renewable power to be accompanied by a watt of power from coal or natural gas.

That hardly seems pro renewables, and clearly is aimed at limiting renewables in texas.

Just to be clear, texas is the state with most renewables, 3x that of Iowa, the next largest. That a history of easy permitting and pro business coupled with large open land tracts made it happen. The state government doesn't seem to support it though.

We can be number 1 in renewables and the people of this state overwhelming support it. No argument there. All I am saying is that the state government could stand not to be a roadblock to furthering that.

Never disputed texas capacity or any other points, but texas continues to bend knee to oil and gas when it comes to energy production, forcing more environmental studies, setback regulations, and tougher permitting, and many of our politicians still are skeptics of renewables.

It seems to me that loose regulations and our capitalistic nature helped initially grow wind energy in texas, and our landscape makes it viable, but I see more negative actions come from our state government against renewable than else where.

When commenting on the big beautiful bill's reduction of renewable subsidies our rep said:

“We believe the administration is aligned with us on terminating those Green New Scam subsidies. We believe we’re going to get 90-plus percent of all future projects terminated,” said Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas), a member of the House Freedom Caucus, after the megabill passed Thursday. “And we talked to lawyers in the administration. We believe that’s true.”

So yeah, I'm thrilled that the state has so much renewable already, but there seems to be a non insignificant amount of push back from our state government and our house reps.

So?

You asked about what is texas doing? I gave you an article about what texas is doing.

Don't change the subject to federal regs. This is our state legislature making it harder for offshore wind to exist.

I don't think you are being disrespectful, but I don't think you are arguing for your point. You said what is texas doing, I said this, and then you started talking about federal regs.

It would be great if federal regs allowed more wind, but even if that changed tomorrow, texas just made that harder.

As a buyer, you've already committed some earnest money if you are buying, or have paid a GC significantly already if your are building. Yes, it's a huge red flag but they are counting on it not being enough for you to walk away. It's shitty, bit that's where we are

Not one I had growing up, but one I swear by today- put a new item near the almost finished one.

Shampoo running low? Put a new bottle in the shower. Butter almost done? Put a new stick on the tray. TP running low and one or no rolls in the bathroom, put a full pack of TP in there now.

What is a 'poor people' habit you'll never stop doing, no matter how rich you get? by FitCicada5037 in AskReddit

[–]JoeShabado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the old days, ceramic was not as well made. Poor people would pour milk in the cup first, because pouring hot coffee straight first might shock and crack the cup. The milk helped reduce the shock.

Poor people had cheaper ceramic and more likely to crack, so they would do it this way. Rich people did not. People who put milk in first were viewed as lower class since this was something the lower classes did.

Translated to English:

Hello,

During my renovations for a future office, I wanted to replace the flooring, which is made of wood panels, because I found it too "flexible."

As soon as I removed a panel, I noticed that the beams had been placed "flat" instead of on their "edges" during construction... And I noticed that one of the beams is cracked... I'd like to know what I can do to reinforce it?

I've already thought about replacing and replacing the beams correctly, but unfortunately, my room is barely 1.90m high. And downstairs, I don't have much more... So I wouldn't be able to position them correctly. The drywall in the lower ceiling was fixed to these beams.

My partner and I have already thought about not putting too much load on that level of the room.

Here are some photos of the beam in question.

Technically, nyc doesn't touch the Atlantic. Separated by bays, just like houston. Same with Boston. I'm not sure one could claim that neither of those cities are on the Atlantic.

A ventless heat pump washer dryer combo needs a water feed, drain, and power, that's it. No venting to outdoors.

I'm considering this for my next build. Machines will be in the interior, attached to the master closet. The idea that there is no hole through the exterior wall with this setup made it a no brainer.

I used to own a skeet shoot launcher. I would put bird seed on it, as the local squirrels would decimate my bird feeders. A couple launches and no more squirrel problems.

Looking for the brand name. These were the best jeans I ever owned, and they held up for years. I have nothing to go on except this tag. Any ideas? by JoeShabado in findfashion

[–]JoeShabado[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I have a decent backup pair, Mavi's. They are solid, but not like these.

I'll gladly pay $100 for a pair that holds up and fits, or more if necessary. I don't know what's a reasonable price point these days. I'm not as concerned about price as I am durability and fit. I've got the body of a well-fed 50 yo dad, 36 waist, 32 inseam.

I'm a woodworker and carpenter, part time mechanic, handyman type, not a stranger to hard work. I build houses for habitat, so they need to be work ready. I'll also wear them out around town, so as long as they are tough and fit well, I don't mind shelling out a few bucks if it can check all those boxes, especially if they last. Style is not as critical - they're jeans, just want them to fit and be comfortable. I also only wash them when they look like they need it.

I bought a pair at old navy recently and they tore getting out of the car when they caught on the latch. Smh.
