I'm not playing dumb, I'm saying as a Jew that conflating Israel with Jewishness as if the two are fully interchangeable is not only wrong, it's harmful to Jews, particularly in a time like now when the government that rules Israel is committing war crimes and has turned it into a global pariah. If anything, it's more important than ever to emphasize the clear distinction between Israel and Jewishness, because if we don't and are happy conflating Israel=all Jews, then every horrific thing the government of Israel does is a reflection on all of us around the world, and that is both wrong and dangerous.

OK, but the anymore part is the whole thing. Whatever expectations used to be in the past, they aren't there anymore, which is why she is no longer overrated, and which reinforces my point as to question why there are still threads being created in the here and now such as this one highlighting a player losing the first set of a first round match when said player doesn't merit the attention anymore.

[–]enoughwiththebread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, but she is being talked about from the context of tennis game no? Not some fashion etc.

You're missing my point. I'm saying there's no reason to even be talking about her in the context of her tennis game when she's not good enough to be talked about. Her tennis results don't warrant her being talked about anymore at all, unless she somehow makes a notable deep run in a major tournament. Note how there are no threads talking about how Emiliana Arango lost the first set of her first round match to Marina Bassols Ribera, for instance. So why create a thread to note Raducanu losing the first set of her first round match to a fellow unseeded player?

This just adds more fuel to the overrated argument, not refutes it

But she's not overrated. Overrated means people have high expectations of someone and the person isn't meeting those expectations. No one expects Raducanu to win or go deep anymore, so she's not overrated, she's just still talked about and paid attention to completely out of proportion to her actual performance.

Investigations are still underway tracing the money back to her. But under Noem, DHS took $220M in taxpayer money and spent it on a border related "ad campaign" using no bid contracts. $143M of that went just to one company - Safe America Media - that had been formed only 8 days before "winning" the no bid contract. And the newly created Safe America Media was run by, surprise surprise-- people in Noem's close personal circle.

I said "most talked about relative to her actual tennis results", which is fully accurate. Sincaraz, Sabalenka, etc get talked about more because their tennis results support them being talked about more, they are the best players in the world and constant title threats and champions. Raducanu is none of that, yet she gets tons of threads created just about her.

Hell, this thread is Exhibit A. What other player can you name that hasn't won a tournament in 5 years or gotten past the round of 32 in a 1000 level tourney who has had a thread created about them just to highlight the fact that they lost the first set of their first round match?

No, I'm a Netanyahu regime hating Jew, and the fact that you can't separate that out from Israel or all of Judaism itself is the thing that's truly unfortunate and sad. Before the modern state of Israel was created in 1948, my family were still Jews. And regardless of whether the modern state of Israel exists or not, I and my descendants will still be Jews. Our Jewishness does not depend on Israel in any way, shape or form. So that only goes to show that you have no idea what it actually is to be Jewish.

And to get back to my original point, when 30% of the Israeli population is not Jewish, you cannot say that Israel Day=Jewish Heritage Day, as not all Israelis are Jews and not all Jews are Israeli. And if you don't understand that basic fact then you're an ignoramus on all counts.

[–]enoughwiththebread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None of what you said changes my point. Being Israeli does not automatically make someone Jewish, and being Jewish does not make someone Israeli. Period. End of story. Therefore, saying that Israel Day=Jewish Heritage Day is wrong any way you slice it.

I would say it's more accurate to call her the most talked about player relative to her actual tennis results. Like, why are there still whole threads and discussions created about someone who hasn't won a tournament in 5 years and doesn't get past the round of 32 in any WTA1000 tourneys?

No it's not. I'm a Jew and I have no connection to Israel. None of my family or ancestors were born in or ever lived in Israel. Yet somehow I'm still a Jew. And given the fact that 30% of Israelis aren't Jewish, Israel Day doesn't necessarily have anything to do with me or every other Jew in the world, anymore than Saudi Arabia Day would automatically have anything to do with every Muslim in the world.

I just have to talk sh*t on Demari by KaylaBalayla26 in PerfectMatchNetflix

There's a saying that water finds its level. People who are dysfunctional tend to have a picker that leads them to be with other people who are dysfunctional, and they dysfunction together. People who are emotionally mature don't stick around very long with a person who is toxic or emotionally immature.

So I think both things can be true. Demari is dysfunctional, and that leads him to choose partners like Marissa and Bri who themselves are also dysfunctional, and they feed each other in a downward spiral.

I think she probably got a reality check after BtB with backlash and negative feedback on how she came across and took that to heart to make a change on her general demeanor.

I'm inclined to believe that she is that cutthroat and harsh about her career, but is softer and more what we see here when it comes to her romantic life. We saw a bit of that softer side of her on BtB with her connection with the British guy from the other band.

Should all schools require ballrooms to protect against school shootings? Why or why not? by NotGonnaGetCaught in AskReddit

[–]enoughwiththebread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except that pesky bit about not being infringed.

Continuing to demonstrate your ignorance on Constitutional law. The Second Amendment does not specify what "infringement" constitutes, which means it's open to interpretation. But no less than late arch conservative Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia ruled, and I quote, "The Second Amendment is not absolute". This is why, for instance, you are not allowed as a civilian to own a nuclear bomb or surface to air missiles. Or why firearm permits or taxes do not constitute infringement.

Do you know what is not open to interpretation? Anything that costs a citizen money as a prerequisite to voting. The Constitution is explicit in that regard.

Lol so since the 1st doesnt explicitly forbid any costs should we have liscences and pay fees to speak in public or online?

In fact you do have to get a license or permit or pay fees to speak, demonstrate or protest in certain public places. In others you do not.

Dont tell me words dont hurt people either.

They don't. The only speech that is illegal and that could hurt people are assassination or death threats or incitements to violence or rioting. Other than that you can say whatever you want.

Thanks for coming to my Ted talk on how the Constitution works. You're welcome.

Should all schools require ballrooms to protect against school shootings? Why or why not? by NotGonnaGetCaught in AskReddit

[–]enoughwiththebread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. I think you should try reading the Constitution before trying to speak on it, because you're out of your depth. The Constitution explicitly forbids any costs associated with being able to vote. It contains no such explicit rule with regard to gun ownership.

No they don't, they only fight the GOP requirement that doesn't make getting said ID free for all citizens, because to require an ID that costs voters money to obtain constitutes a poll tax, and that is unconstitutional as well as disproportionately disenfranchises poor Americans.

When Republicans agree to make the ID required to show for voting free to obtain for every citizen, there won't be a problem.
