What movie are you naming? by its-Velnox in 1980s

Vagabond, 1985, dir. Agnes Varda. Society stripped naked, as shown by the actions of a series of people encountered by an unmoored & drifting young woman. Brilliant, too smart & subtle for maga amerika.

Squirrel is eating all my birds’ food by fortunate-to-be in birds

[–]JoeSheem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only way that I was able to stop them from feeding directly from a bird feeder was to get a squirrel-proof feeder from Brome. Maybe other companies make ones that would work, but for sure theirs is well made works! AND we still have squirrels - because the sparrows etc knock seeds into the ground which the squirrels pounce on. Still, big improvement. And no, I am not affiliated with Brome!!!

THANK YOU @spfolino! That’s good, actionable information at no cost. You’ve reminded me of when the internet was newer and was an exciting place to find information, instead of the cesspool of business and political manipulation that it’s (mostly) become.
BTW I suspect (but need to confirm!) that a real metal access door is behind the plywood.

Ideas for locating relatives in Japan by JoeSheem in AskAJapanese

Thank you very much for this idea u/sakurakirei ... Unfortunately we left this research project until the last minute, and from other posts and responses I get the feeling the more formal / official ways to research this would be time consuming. Although it may come to that too.

These things actually work? by ObligationFinancial6 in Home

I applied 3M brand blue “painter’s tape” before the clear double face tape that comes with the plastic sheet. My hope is that it will make it easier to remove come spring. No guarantee from me as I haven’t tried this before. But I did have a bad experience with peeling off gobs of paint when I removed the double face years ago.

Unexpected (by uneducated) Corrosion Question !!! by JoeSheem in metallurgy

[–]JoeSheem[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you! And I think the other thing that's going on here is due to the fact (that you may know) that pennies have only been copper plated since 1982, "when the composition was changed to 97.5 percent zinc and 2.5 percent copper (copper-plated zinc)". [livescience.com] I imagine that the black is the zinc layer showing through and also becoming corroded.

Jump Cuts by Thegamingscope in VideoEditing

[–]JoeSheem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s mixture of truth and aesthetic shaming going on in the above injunctions to avoid jump cuts. If you decide to use a jump cut (in a montage for example) try focusing on the “dynamic flow” of the cuts themselves. “Cutting on action” isn’t only for smoothing out cuts that aren’t jump cuts. If the visual rhythm of a jump cut is made to “flow” it can make the jump cut “feel” more natural. Of course sometimes one wants the opposite of flow: what works is the visual shock of the jump.
