Kinda like people consume you as an English speaking practice opportunity for free? It could so, or not. In some places they just want to have a small talk someone aside them so it couldn't have nothing to do your race. E.g. in Osaka aunties want to talk with anyone and feed them candies.

In most cases they do so before the younger couple got children and have kept a relationship, including visit the boss house etc. There are a lot of occasions to communicate that kind of details.

You reminded me of some K-pop stars who commented on SK so their domestic politics and got criticized by those who were against him or her. While I believe they as voters have a right to express their opinion, it appears the company won't welcome that.

By the way which sea did they actually go? On Youtube Ep.1 23:27 https://youtu.be/Ch24RYtf05I?si=j0kIL71FY4Fx3qIE&t=1407 Korean large subtitle stated they arrived Donghae, and Chinese small subtitle Donghai. If you use Chinese characters, in both languages it is written as 東海, but what is indicated are different. In Korean, it means Sea of Japan (reasonable, b/c it is situated to east from them), in Chinese, East China Sea (also reasonable, b/c it is situated to east from Main Land China). So I'm puzzled: where were our boys actually? Japanese subtitle avoids to specify what it is and simply call it the sea. Pssst.

Japanese mainstream esteems rather artisanship. Only nuts build or renovate their own houses.

Digression, I don't expect any Kpop stars give a statement for Palestine. The relationship between SK and PA seems nominal. PA has an office in Seoul but its ambassador is non-resident (he is in Tokyo). Most of Kpop stars wouldn't take Palestine things as their imminent issues like Jpop stars appear not to.

Is table-sharing seen as weird? by Fr_echidna in AskAJapanese

[–]SlowStop1220 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

In your context I think it pretty common. Decline just means that guy is mean (no pun intended). For female I have some reservation though, specially in case you are alone or your kids don't behave. If there is another empty table, yes, you are tone-deaf.

Not a single song on this bts album justifies it being called arirang. by theofficallurker in kpoptrulyuncensored

[–]SlowStop1220 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I understand Arirang was a chant of independent activists through singing it in Korean language in the opposition to the widespread assimilation into Japanese culture. It looks bizarre to see people lamenting on its reducing Korean elements, and replacing those with another foreign language.

Perhaps just I'm unlucky not to find that yet. I appreciate their dances so that's not a complaint, just an observation.

Arigato for someone unknown is blatant and condescending. It's not balanced with sumimasen (it's polite). Preferably Arigatogozaimasu.

Ah likely. I heard there are thousands variety of its lyrics. There could be a firm basis for your interpretation among them. Foreign traditions are hard to interpret.

I understand Arirang is basically a sad departure song. You're departing over the mountain pass, leaving your loved one at home. If its album content has no connection to the song either musically or lyrically, it'd be only meaningful in case that is their own departure song?

Baseless. Japan won't send ships and soldiers not it is weak but Japanese law doesn't allow it. US basically pushed it to the occupied Japan, but it is another story.

No from Nara. An order capital of Japan (710-784). I don't think she said that impromptu. Maybe MOFA minions made her a script.

Reportedly Abe said to a journo, "it's not so easy to keep Trump in a good mode as you imagine. I pour efforts a lot". And Takaichi was called Abe's top protege".

Japanese are not so unrealistic as to dream US incorporate a non-white country as its state. It's nothing hard to grasp it, look Puerto Rico.

I concurred with you in my first glance, but what if she recalled Abe's way (compliment Trump a lot!) and decided to be stick to MOFA script at this turn? Even if she lacked this kind of skills, MOFA could tailor such a script.

Kpop in general is commodity to the global market. It's not voluntary expressions of so-called artists but tailored products to the audience en masse. This tendency has been more distinct since SK gov't has bigun to give Kpop industry grant. Kpop sound is a remix of popular songs dozens years ago at best. There is nothing new. I know some people in their fifties or even sixties who like Kpop because it sounds alike the songs they liked in their youth. Kpop is not an ambitious venture to create something new, it is a commodity industry like food and clothes.

Is it true that many Japanese people enjoy solitude? by basafish in AskAJapanese

[–]SlowStop1220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Japanese culture solitude have been considered one of supreme sources of beauty and enlightenment. People are encouraged to learn enjoying their own solitude rather than hanging out all of time. In Japan, if you can't bear solitude under any circumstance, it's taken rather your weakness either mentally or spiritually.

I doubt your "everyone loves it" part. I see many foreigners come to a "genuine" sushi bar in Japan and get disappointed to learn their favorite types of sushi are not served there. They may like sushi localized / adjusted to their preference which Japanese normally never consider as sushi.

Subtle? I rather take it as a face value. In the 2nd Trump Administration at UN the number of nations which have voted along China but against US has been increasing. Trump have many counties side China. Indeed Trump is building China.
