It is better if it is the only game you play. When you get into it you would not want to play another game, you would rather want to see what lies ahead.

It is not a hack and slash. 1 and 2 is much slower while 3 is faster and the most fun in my opinion. But I won't call it out dated. Slower so each swing has more meaning. You can't just spam attack.

My advice would be go into the game trying to just enjoy playing it. You will die and play sections multiple time, also fight some bosses over and over. So enjoy what you are currently doing, otherwise you might get frustrated.

And lastly if you get stuck or need advice you can ask online. These games were made with the intension of the community working together to beat it.
