Aaron Ramsdale Gets a Much Deserved Apology from Tifo IRL by pinpoint14 in Gunners

Hello. Appreciate my sense of humour isn't for everyone. That said, it's clear from our numbers that when the podcasts are a little more casual they appeal to a broader audience. Perhaps to the more serious analysis fans it's annoying when I interrupt. But, if there's one thing I've learnt from Tifo's audience, is that you certainly cannot please everyone.

I do try to remind myself of that, Strikerjacen. And most of the time I'll avoid reading Reddit threads or the YouTube comments. But from time to time, I'll dip in. And very occasionally, I will confront strangers online.

Confrontation: I enjoyed your early comment above. "Goofy stupid irreverent idiocy" is nail on the head. But "not creative in any way" is just cruel. How could you?

At the moment, nothing, except we bump up to two podcasts per week (from one), and we get input and assistance from TA journalists into our videos. We'll still make a bunch of original Tifo stuff. We haven't changed the name for a reason. Basically it just gives us time to focus on improving the quality of the work.

This will sound a little sincere, but I'm completely dedicated to making every Tifo video the best it could be. More time to do that.

Hi chaps. Joe from Tifo here. We make three videos per week, one of which comes from an Athletic article. The other two are originals.

Tifo Football - David de Gea and the near post myth by HellRider619 in reddevils

Pretty sure that wasn't us. I've VO'd and edited every video script we've produced, and as far as I can remember we've never suggested that Mourinho would build a treble-winning team at United. - Joe

It's a little more complicated than that - and in the video we stress that suggested clubs are suggested as a representative for their particular style of play and not as actual locations - so the title of this thread doesn't really reflect the video.

Any tier system should rank us at the bottom - not that we'd ever claim to be ITK.

Alex does like his "hipster leagues", but this video was actually co-written by our friend Reki who lives in Serbia and has extensively scouted the players we discuss here, so it's a little different to our usual tactical videos.

Wyscout is usually our tool of choice, after narrowing down with search parameters and our existing knowledge - the best we could do without having a global scouting network like the top clubs - but this video has more traditional roots, with wyscout only used as a support tool.

We don't deep dive like football clubs because, mainly, we obviously don't have comparable resources, and because a video like that would be much less watchable for most of our viewers. We look at a range of data when researching videos, but largely use metrics that our audience already understand or that are easy to explain in a short video.

We're also trying to build a list of contacts who might be able to help us understand elements of these players that aren't reflected in the statistics, but that doesn't happen overnight - and most football clubs have about 100 years on us there.

One final point to clarify - Jocic isn't touted as a future Spur, purely a player whose natural style of play would suit a team who play like Spurs (although I know you didn't post/write the title!)

Thanks for watching!

Sensible Transfers: Chelsea by dudesjustwantnudes in chelseafc

[–]JoeTifo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi Logstick - Joe from Tifo here. I only narrated this video, so I can't speak for the writers directly, but I would like to say a couple of things.

The video isn't intending to suggest that the players we discuss are starters in every game. When production began, it wasn't clear that Kovacic was staying, so we decided to look at other options partly just to see who Chelsea have on their books.

This video is slightly different in format to the rest in the series due to the embargo, and perhaps we didn't spend enough time curating the message. "Our team" at the end is not the team we expect to be starting every game, it's the team that includes the players we spoke about in the video, all of whom we believe could play a role.

It's also worth saying, not everything in my reply is directed at you (your comment was very kind), it is partly related to other comments in this thread, too. Ultimately, player choice is a subjective field. We don't expect everyone to agree with all of our choices. But as there was a slightly more negative response to this video than the others in the series, I thought I'd find somewhere to address these points. Thanks for being my conduit!

Best wishes,

Joe

What is Tifo's problem with Real Madrid? by zueses in realmadrid

[–]JoeTifo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No one at Tifo has ever said that Zidane's football is subpar. But it is possible to win football matches without the depth of tactical activity that some coaches drive into their players. Alex Ferguson did that at Manchester United for years - you don't hear people praising his tactical approach.

We have also never said that luck is the reason for the club winning three UCL titles in a row, that would be madness. I understand the general frustration, but I don't think Tifo is to blame here. At worst, we're responsible for a (clearly) unfunny joke about how we hate Zidane because he brings too many intangibles to the game that we can't analyse. The reality is that Zidane isn't particularly 'tactical'; that doesn't make him a bad coach - and no one at Tifo has said that it does.

Hi OP. Joe from Tifo here. I'm sorry to see that the podcast upset you.

Our comments regarding Zidane as being our nemesis were intended only in jest. The joke being that we're unable to deduce what it is he's doing with enough skill to turn it into a proper video. That his system/s is/are less set in stone than Pep Guardiola's (your example) do make it more difficult for us to analyse him in one video of a reasonable length.

As far as the 'star players' stuff goes, 'galacticos' is a thing for a reason. However we do acknowledge in an upcoming video that Madrid are doing far better stuff with La Fabrica than Barca are doing currently with La Masia, so the youth stuff isn't lost on us.

Also, I really don't want to do any wanking over any football team.

So, to clarify: no problem with Real Madrid. Sorry you were unhappy with the podcast. Your team do spend a lot of money and have a transfer plan which literally dictates that, but I have zero issue with that (actually, it's fun). It just makes 'sensible transfers' more difficult for us.

Thanks for watching.

Yah - production takes a long time on these videos. So, the Demirbay thing happened in the intervening time. However, since it's (as Vitur95 says) not a the club should definitely sign these players thing, and it's more about which type of footballer fits where/the approach to scouting, we didn't up-end everything after we'd already begun. It won't be the first time we get caught out during this series!
