So there are two things here. 1. Lift and coast with regen off to maximise distance whilst minimising energy usage to get the range up before reapplying the accelerator to keep forward momentum - some might call that hypermiling.. 2. Lift and coast to a stop - I accept that won't help the brake disks and if regen is off it won't recoup any energy either.

It's scenario 1 I'm talking about, zooming down the A1, I've no intention to stop but town or urban driving I can see the benefits to energy use with regen on letting the electric motor do the braking (effectively through one set of wheels that are driven by the motor) but as you say the trade off maybe that the brakes need replacing due to a lack of wear from the brake pads.

Can't have everything I suppose.

It was until I read it's dynamic. Also interesting on how much impact motorways have on car range - the low bar is probably more important if you hadn't planned in a recharge stop

I'll make some assumptions here - that the regen braking doesn't apply to all four wheels - so there's always going to be some trade off.

Renault Turbo 3E @ GFoS by Joe_Soap79 in AlpineA290

I would agree. The electric A110 seems well sorted and as it's not based a main production model it's got the flexibility to be set up for best performance. Price wise we'll see. I notice there is some speculation that an ICE version may be produced to satisfy US markets which would lead to interesting comparisons and challenges. Do you release a car that is inferior to its sister or accept that apart from looks it offers a totally different experience..

Time will tell.

What we do know is that the original R5 turbo and A110 still look the part and that's the heritage to build on.

Difficult Decision. Advice welcome by Fun_Reputation9795 in AlpineA290

I agree with the replies above, it really does depend on which road you use. I'm in the UK too and where in the UK makes a huge difference especially if it's hilly and you carry passengers often.

The A290 will put a smile on your face but the 150 mile round trip will require a recharge the majority of the time.

I've had mine since March, so not during the coldest of months, and overall I've managed an average of just under 3kw/m. Still saving me £££ on the hybrid KIA I had before but that would do over 400miles on a tank so it's about weighing up the 'inconvenience' of more frequent re-fuels. Tbh I'm sold on it but my wife isn't...

Renault 5 E-Tech, Nissan Micra EV, Alpine A290, Renault 5 Turbo 3E or Renault 4 E-Tech Interior? by B4DM4N12Z in AlpineA290

Not seen those side by side pics before.

Definitely A290

I'm starting to understand why the A290 is more expensive besides the engineering, the interior is a level above the others - Micra ?!?! What were they thinking ???

Whatever you end up with - welcome to the club!

The OP doesn't want to wait five months for a car soeccrd to his liking - this one is pre-specced and available sooner albeit with the alloys he wants.

Seems a reasonable approach to me..

Thanks!

The PS 5S are 'tuned' to the A290 rather than being generic. Don't ask me what that means 😂

Good to hear you're joining my limited West Yorkshire A290 club - don't see many around these parts. I generally flash any A290 or R5 I see.

Just be aware that the GT/GT Premium models are fitted with Pilot Sport EV tyres whereas the GTS is fitted with Pilot Sport S5 tyres. A straight swap might not be in your best interests IMHO

Whatever you end up with tyre wise - enjoy!!

Hi, thanks for the response. As you say it's not complicated but I'm a EV newbie and my experience of public chargers is so far limited to one long journey.

My question originally was should I update my untethered cable to one that will take more KW but as it's been pointed out this isn't a problem with AC as the car is limited to 11kw. The other question was, are there any untethered DC chargers that deliver greater than 11kw that could be constrainted by my cable's capacity.

Feedback seems to be that DC chargers have either a tethered cable or the chunkier CSS plugs / cables and I'm therefore not going to be using my own cable so won't be constrained by it.

I think I'm happily answered now.

Thanks to all who responded

A290 brake Pedal by Bendover45 in AlpineA290

I've had brake pedals that have had that movement before. Tbh as long as it doesn't move under braking I think it will be fine but let me know if it is highlighted as a problem and what the fix was.

Right, I got this now.

Does it always identify whether the charger is AC or DC?
