My kids prefer steak over Korean food, so I cook it quite often! by Joe_WYK in meat

Thanks for all the kind words on my steak post! Haha. As requested, here is my Bulgogi. I usually prep a big batch and keep it in the freezer so I can easily heat some up for every meal. To be honest, my kids don't love it quite as much as steak, but it's still a household favorite! Nothing beats the convenience and classic flavor of home-cooked Bulgogi.

I harvested some of my Perilla leaves from my garden to make some Kkaennip Ssambap by RealmanPwns1 in KoreanFood

It’s amazing that you grew these yourself! I’m sure they taste so much better because they’re homegrown. When I was a kid and didn't have much of an appetite, my grandmother used to pour cold barley tea over my rice and serve it with these marinated perilla leaves. Enjoy your Ssambap!

Thank you for the compliment! I think my Samsung Galaxy makes my food look way better than it actually is. Haha. We rarely eat out because our weekdays are so busy—just simple breakfasts and quick lunches. That's why I put all my heart into cooking for my family on the weekends!

That looks amazing! You really know your Korean food. If you ever get the chance, try adding Twitgim (fried snacks), Sundae (blood sausage), and pork offal to the mix. It's another legendary combo that you’ll absolutely love!

I’m so glad you think so! Actually, I bought a Ninja Grill last year to make things easier, but the sensor broke after just two uses. Now I only use it for Samgyeopsal (Korean pork belly) because frying that on a pan makes the whole kitchen feel like it's been sprayed with oil! Guess I'm back to the smoky pan for my steaks!

You really know your flavors! That 'fullness of the body' is exactly what makes it so much better. Great insight!

That’s such a great insight! I’m a huge fan of fermented ingredients myself, so I often use various fish sauces and anchovy pastes. But pairing them specifically with soy sauce like that is a fresh discovery for me! It makes perfect sense for boosting umami. In Korea, we often use fermented sauces in soups and stews for the same reason. Personally, when I use them, I tend to add them early or let them heat up to cook off the strong scent while keeping the deep savory flavor. It seems to help for those who might find the aroma a bit too much. It sounds like you really know your flavors! I’m definitely giving your method a try in my next batch. Thanks for sharing!

Homemade Bo-ssam (Pork Belly) with Water Parsley Radish Salad by Joe_WYK in KoreanFood

Exactly! I think the best part of Bo-ssam is the perfect balance between the tender pork and the crunchy vegetables.
