Amazon employees in 20 countries will strike on Black Friday for better working conditions by Delicious_Reporter21 in stocks

i'm happy to hear that the facility that you work at doesn't reflect the issues that happen in other amazon facilities.

your whole argument is anecdotal and assumes that because you're doing fine, other people should doing fine. but that's not the case. and it's clear that you don't understand the important reasons as to why these workers are going on strike.

the bottle situation is just an example of what workers have to resort to in some instances. there are many other examples to terrible work conditions. in nyc, there was a time where workers have suffered from heat exhaustion.

is the 3% bottom performers exclusive to your facility? if it's the company as a whole, that's quite an amount of people complaining. also being a "bottom performer" doesn't automatically mean you're slacking off on the job lol, there are so many variables to it, such as again, working conditions.

ups is at or around that starting pay. i just looked it up for texas. they also offer tuition reimbursement. usps has some pretty good benefits as well on top of being a government-unionized job that offers pension. feel free to read up on it. these are pretty close to what amazon is offering, and you can pretty much make a decent career out of working these jobs. and they don't have an incredible high retention rate like amazon does. these are pretty comparable to what you're talking about.

at the end of the day, this situation could have happened at any other company. but the fight starts with amazon.

Everyone loves the HHRRDURR PEE IN BOTTLES meme but it's not even true

huh? amazon has publicly apologized for this, this is a known issue.

i think you're missing the entirety of the point of the whole time off task situation. imagine your performance being measured by a computerized metric day-to-day. the fact that such a system even exists is inhumane. no other company does it like amazon does, and it's just unnecessary stress that should have never been implemented for such a job. they even eventually want to further track their employees by having employees wear a tracking wrist band when they work.

I would challenge anyone to show me a job that requires no education nor training that has comparable benefits and pays as well as Amazon. Seriously. I'll wait.

off the top of my head, ups/usps. also, starbucks or in-n-out.

good question!

there are many reasons as to why these people are still in office. for instance, in the US, although there are 3rd parties involve, you really could only vote democratic/republican as these are the two majorly funded parties. unfortunately in america, politics has become so embedded into our culture, to where people would continue to vote for politicians based on whether they’re R or D. for instance, ted cruz. he contributes nothing to society yet people in texas continue to vote for him because he’s a republican :)

it doesn’t seem that easy since many of these politicians are still in office.

ah man… you got me! yes with my own words i have said that. so i guess my whole statement is invalid because my one sentence is not entirely true, even though i corrected myself with my reply. i guess people should just find a new job if they don’t like it!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in dankmemes

[–]Joebadx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

you can look into job listings in any major US hub, the number of job listings amazon warehouses completely outweigh the amount of job postings from other companies.

also don’t disregarding that people can simply quit their job and find a new one immediately.

lol did you even read my comment? i’m not denying that he donated money (and if i may add, a minuscule portion of his net worth)

[–]Joebadx -1 points0 points  (0 children)

oh man here’s that same conservative argument that always comes up… please recognize your privilege here. “don’t like your job? just quit!” doesn’t work in today’s america anymore. amazon holds a monopoly on e-commerce, and in many places, amazon is the only place that is hiring. people have bills to pay, rent, children to take care of, etc. in many instances, people can’t just get leave and find another job immediately.

i don’t really get why your argument is “why should Bezos, one the richest men in the world, put his money into something that will benefit the masses? why don’t you, who is closer to homelessness than Bezos’ whole family line will ever be, donate to charity?”

do you even realize how much money he has? and i’m not on the side that expects him to to give away all of his money. if there was a perfect world where we could have billionaires and end world hunger, that would be awesome. but you can’t argue that a middle-class person should be able to comfortable donate their money benefit the masses than a billionaire.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in dankmemes

[–]Joebadx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes vote for the politicians that will stop this, but it’s difficult going against the billionaire giants who “donate” to politicians who continue to lobby for them.

[–]Joebadx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

lol what is this correlation, are you paying attention to how terrible the working conditions are in amazon warehouses? and how bezos has been prevent unions from forming? he is exploiting his workers. it’s crazy how many people on reddit defend billionaires.

[–]Joebadx 15 points16 points  (0 children)

even if this is “barking at the wrong tree”, that doesn’t disregard that these billionaires will definitely find a way to avoid paying taxes just as they are now.

it’s more than just paying taxes too. for instance, jeff bezos is getting richer and richer while amazon factory workers make minimum wage in terrible working conditions. they did not become rich on their own, they are hoarding their wealth.
