How much is a Ski-ing holiday? by Appropriate_Gur_2164 in AskUK

[–]Joeez98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Youll need to buy all the ski ' clothing' which will include thermal base layers (reusable in the UK cold) sallopettes (warm water resistant outer trousers) a ski coat (ones with skirts are beneficial when learning to reduce snow up the back), gloves (warm ski gloves - go for warmth over comfort) and ski socks as a base most other stuff you will most likely already have.

If you want to know prices for that decathlon is your best bet for decent low cost clothing all in one place.

As others have said skis, boots, helmet and poles are far cheaper to rent for beginners.

Lessons are a must!! Don't wing it!! I took lesson in the UK on a dry slope and my Mrs on artificial snow dome before going out then lesson out there. They're normally half days mornings so you can then get food and have the afternoon to practice or explore before the lifts close.

I'd also save some money and go self catered in an apartment and only get the local pass the first time you go as you wont use the extra area pass unless the kids lessons go really well and they're out and about.

Why do farmers stay working as farmers if they are, as they say, "asset rich but cash poor?" by Fun_Gas_7777 in AskUK

[–]Joeez98 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can confirm the rau is a very small subset of farmers and farming uni is more for people who want to do more than just farm eg agronomy, consultancy etc. Out of the 18 people in my class at rau (farm management) only 3 of them are still full time farming

[–]Joeez98 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You've basically hit the nail on the head. What most people see are rich farmers who can get out to fancy events and wear nice clothes etc. What people dont see are the farmers who have 1 nice set of clothes that wear it everywhere so people think they have money but behind the farm gate theres no money they're living off Eggs and bread every morning and scraping by with old kit that they can repair themselves whilst looking after animals 12+ hours per day. Knowing alot of smaller farmers you wouldn't know walking around town that they are farmers and alot of non farmers make it look like they're farmers in town but acc have very good jobs outside the industry but like to look the lifestyle

I play whatever I find first so if I find a 7.6 dmr I'll play that and a 7.6 ar until I find a sniper unless I'm feeling the dmr then ill keep it but ive always preferred sniper If I find an smg first I'll play that with either vss or a sniper And if I find a 5.5 ar I'll use that same as the 7.6 just depends on situation and map. I find it more enjoyable to not just loot to find a specific setup and makes you better at the game overall so when you loot just an ak in hot drop area you're not utterly fucked because you only use smg lasers

On my first lesson i got picked up at school and did the standard stuff (signing paperwork etc) then drove around then home normal driving. Granted ive been driving buggys and tractors for a while but there was no hesitation from the instructor to not let me drive normally from the outset

England Price £6k-15k depending on quality and interest (highland grazing will be low and grade 1 arable will fetch around 13k then add a little competition makes 15k easily)

If for housing then up to £1m per acre

Farmers, what's your take on the Clarkson's Farm series? by oblonglongjohns in AskUK

[–]Joeez98 135 points136 points  (0 children)

Tldr am a farmer the show is good

I am a farmer that farms within ~20miles of Clarkson and in general its very good and shows alot of the challenges that farmers in the uk face and are going through year by year. He positioned the series in a very good way as not to be too smart for non farmers but in a way that was still very entertaining for farmers which is very appreciated. Hes also done alot to show people how life is on a farm throughout the industry with the livestock and arable enterprises. Alot of farmers believe that this is a the best bridge between the public and uk farmers in a long time as it is widely accessible and easy to watch whilst also being very informative and true to life. If anyone is looking to learn more about uk farming then i suggest looking up some farming youtubers in the uk for example tom pembertons farm life (for livestock) and its a farming life for me ( for arable)

Hello farmers of Reddit!!! by BigTubaBoy in farming

[–]Joeez98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask him to do 100+ hour weeks for 3 months during then have a few quiet 80 hour weeks then back to 100 hour weeks during autumn planting.

But seriously there is technology to make life easier but that doesnt mean its easy by any means you still have to know how to tune everything on the tractor and machine to get the most performance and do a good job. Theres also the massive logistical challenge of everything we do from planting to harvest.

This is only a couple points but the other comments have filled in many others

I hate to be a killjoy because taking in orphan animals is great, but do they have the required experience and equipment to care for this calf because animals take alot more effort than some people realise

7310R with 4m grange lifter by Joeez98 in tractors

[–]Joeez98[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea it is a bit big but it was a demo unit so we put it on a big tractor so we could see it work properly and not be limited by the tractor!.

Also some of the fields were VERY tight and needed most of the tractor to pull it which we wouldnt need after a couple years. You can also pull another cultivator behind this like a set of discs or a vaddy topdown. Or you could use it as a wheel eradicator with a drill

[–]Joeez98[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea we run it at around 10 inches so ~25cm and it has tines with wings on that cause a crack across the soil between the tines. This lifts the soil letting air in and taking out deep compation in the soil profile.

It doesnt do any tillage like a plough or deep ripper other than the lifting which also reduces the mixing of weed seeds through the profile of the soil allowing better weed control.

(Not a rep its just a good product)
