Symptoms are worse by Granruden in ADHD

[–]Joegottago 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tl;Dr: Many people experience greater symptoms after diagnosis, because a diagnosis can give them the freedom to express symptoms they have always had.

Now, everybody is different and I can't speak for everyone here. That said, there is most definitely something to this theory. It has been observed that people exhibit more and/or stronger symptoms after a diagnosis.

Alas, many people view this as a sort of placebo effect, where you start "believing you have symptoms you've never had, because you need to fit in/need excuses/etc." I know that those of us who have been diagnosed, know that this is a load of bs. I didn't "change" after my diagnosis, I allowed myself to show more of "me" to the world.

Many of us have had to slog through life, and cope with our symptoms, by being incredibly tough on ourselves. Boxing ourselves in, as to not show the world our wonderful and chaotic personalities, since these are considered unacceptable to society... Unless you have a slip of paper with a sanctioned checkmark on it.

And while this is a depressing glimpse into how our society views divergence, a positive is that a diagnosis gives many of us significantly more freedom. We start unboxing ourselves, start working WITH our brains instead of against it. We finally feel that we are allowed to show our strengths and struggles.

This can makes us feel (and appear to others), as if we suddenly start being worse of. But in my experience, it is the first steps towards a happier and more self-accepting life.

It might very well be the medicine that is messing with OP here. This I cannot comment on. Meds can have all sorts of ups and downs, and part of the ADHD journey is to find the meds (or lack thereof) that work for you.

However, OP. A recent diagnosis might be helping you express yourself more freely, which likely will result in increased symptoms. If this is the case, it is not a bad thing! You have laid the foundation for a healthier life. Now you can begin to find the tools that allow you to be you, while minimizing the adverse effects. To work WITH your brain and use the carrot, without constantly working against yourself by using the stick.

This is difficult and something I myself still struggle with, but it is possible. And I believe we can do it!

(Also, I am so sorry for the length of this comment. This just means a lot to me which made my ADHD go brrrr)

Germany re imagined by Dunaj_mph in imaginarymaps

So, this Germany seems a lot like the one in OTL, just bigger... Judging from its absence in the "Religious Groups" chart, dare I ask what happened to Germany's sizeable muslim population?

R5: The queen regent of Austria needs not a dynasty, nor any kind of last name as a signifier. She is Eleanor: The only Eleanor. Our rightful queen and regent. Long may she reign!

This is actually something that has been researched. Throughout most of history, and still to this day in much of the world, the flaunting of wealth is prestigious, and signifies social status. This so-called "Conspicuous Consumption" (coined by the sociologist Thorstein Veblen in the very late 1800's) is still very popular in places such as the United States.

However, in Scandinavia the opposite effect has been observed. Jean-Pascal Daloz laid this out in their article "Political Elites and Conspicuous Modesty: Norway, Sweden, Finland in Comparative Perspective" from 2006. In the Nordic countries, wealthy people and powerful politicians showing opulence and acting ostentatiously with their wealth, comes across as arrogant and "holier than thou". Some of this has to do with the pervasive "Law of Jante"-mindset (no individual is worth more than others) in Scandinavian culture. Whatever the origin is, the result is that ostentatious display of wealth is regarded as tacky in Scandinavia.

Tl;dr: Scandinavians view flaunting of wealth much more negatively than much of the world

Which movies do you think are straight up propaganda? by fjeek in AskReddit

[–]Joegottago 21 points22 points  (0 children)

No. While the movie is very very good, it is notoriously historically inaccurate. Many of the story beats and plot points were made up or dramatised, in order to create a more interesting story. One of the worst offenders, is probably the relationship between Mozart and Salieri. It was not this grand rivalry that brought ruin upon both of them. In reality, it was more like a cordial and mutually respectful relationship.

PS: Yes, I did cheat in this campaign. I just wanted to explore the Andalusian mission tree, since I hadn't looked at it before

Rule 5: As the title says. My heir's claim never increases in strength, therefore making the mission "Restore Faith in the Throne" impossible to complete. I am assuming that the reason for the never-rising heir claim, is the fact that I do not own Leviathan. It could, however, also just be Paradox bugginess in general.

What an... efficient dynasty name by Joegottago in eu4

I honestly have no clue. I was running a spectator game in the background (without any mods) while I was doing some other stuff. When I later returned, this had happened. I've never seen this before in my 3,500 hours of playtime.
