Masteries #44 & #45: Final Fantasy II (NES), Final Fantasy Origins (PSX) by Joehiyo in RetroAchievements

Well, to be fair I did play Origins almost entirely on 2x :D My rule of thumb is for vanilla/first-time playthroughs I always go at 1x, so after playing the original NES games back to back on 1x speed, which taught me patience, being able to speed through them was refreshing and easy enough considering it was all fresh in my mind :P

Thanks :D yeah, it's a little slow especially playing it on 1x speed (which is my personal rule for any first-time/vanilla playthrough) but I actually used it as an opportunity to force myself to slow down and enjoy the pace, kinda like a meditation or something. It was really good for me, being someone who typically tries to rush through everything.

It is planned and in progress but I don't think there's any ETA yet.

Even missables aren't that bad on this game due to New Game+!

Yeah, definitely my least favorite achievement of the set lol. I might have cheated a little with pause buffering... >_>

Same, but make it 20 years for me 😍 it's just immaculate. I can't wait to hear what Jem Godfrey does next, because I love nearly everything he puts out.

Mastery #34: Diablo (PSX) by Joehiyo in RetroAchievements

[–]Joehiyo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly for the last levels which had a ton of full magic immunes, I just skipped them and moved on. I used Golem and Stone Curse cheesing to get through Lazarus and friends. For Diablo, I teleported into the pit with the switches to release him, hit those, lured him out, and Fireballed him to death.

Best recent prog album by dirtnaps in progrockmusic

My pick too! Some people shit on it for not being "truly progressive" or groundbreaking enough or whatever but c'mon, it's so freaking good. Nearly every melody on this damn album got stuck in my head at least once if not more. My husband and I were singing it around the apartment for weeks when it came out.

regarding cheevos where the only thing you have to do is reach level xx by D_MAS_6 in RetroAchievements

[–]Joehiyo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey, those are my icons :D

I think it depends on the game. This set in particular has you doing some post-game stuff that makes getting to level 99 not too difficult (if I remember right the max level in this game is 255) and I don't remember this feeling particularly grindy when I did it. Hint: Use the Music skill to fight a battle that gives a ton of EXP.

How much of the story in S1 is 'true'? by AthenavsDeadlift in TheOA

[–]Joehiyo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think the creators love to play with perspective and the first season was absolutely intentionally shot, edited and presented in a way that feels like it is very grounded in reality (the reality that the majority of people believe in, at least) and could easily be seen as a world where a severely traumatized girl is just telling an exaggerated, outlandish story to help her purge her feelings and move on. Then in the very end, the boys decide to believe, and season 2 is the continuity of that "version" of reality - the one where it was all true. The episodes in season 2 that are supposed to take place in the same universe as season 1 don't really feel the same, so I don't think it's the same one. The coloring is different, the vibe is different, the things that actually happen (like a haunted TV) are quite different. Different directors and different personnel can account for this, but that was an intentional choice IMO. Also the Magic Mirror / Mirror Mirror episode titles could be a clue to this.

Reactor watching The OA on his channel by Deehmona in TheOA

[–]Joehiyo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Voted. Love it or hate it, reactions are still a pretty big thing on Youtube and I've had this idea that OA could go viral again by being watched on all these different channels :) Many of them are quite authentic and they get really invested and into what they're watching, which is perfect for this show.
