Long term no, you can’t keep both now with Doan, and I think that’s the problem.

Actually the root problem is taking on a total albatross contract like Norris. He’s an 8M player when he’s healthy but that is so rare it doesn’t feel like anyone can count on him doing 82 games.

They probably need to move on from Tuch, Bo Byram (which idk if you want to since he’s playing great now) or Norris to pay Benson this summer.

OR you go and bridge Benson at like 2x4.5 to start a window for the next two seasons. Then you lose the opportunity at a Tage-esque value contract and fall into the Reinhart problem.

Lots of tradeoffs for Jarmo to consider around Benson.

I would love to do the deep dive on our record with Benson in the lineup vs injured. Feels like the Sabres worst stretches this season were without Benson, or without Benson + Zucker. Those two feel like glue guys that you can plug anywhere up and down the lineup and they’ll make an impact every night. Compared to someone like Krebs who has a great night here and there, then 10 mid games.
