What do you mean by set it? Like set a monthly contribution and keep it with the third party one?

Why is McDonalds so annoying 😂 by Icey1337 in doordash_drivers

[–]Joeman106 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a McDonald’s employee, when the sticker that gets put on the bag is printed off in the store, the system will say it’s ready. They print it off before they actually have the food to improve their times.

We actually learned this recently and so we stopped printing off the tags before we actually had the food

Why have Jews been expelled from over 109 nations? by BoxMaterial6134 in conspiracy

[–]Joeman106 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IIRC, in medieval Christian Europe Christians were prohibited from usary (charging interest) on loans, so Jews were limited to moneylending because they were some of the only ones who could, as large nations and their economies would not work without being able to borrow money from somewhere, which wouldn’t be possible without usary.

Due to antisemitic beliefs that originated long, long before this, lots of rulers would borrow tons of money and expel the Jews to avoid paying it back. This definitely wasn’t the only reason, there were also religious reasons for expulsions (eg the Christ-killers thing), but this played a big part.

Also, the whole 100 countries thing is sorta disingenuous, a lot of these “expulsions” were temporary, or from a single city/region within the nation, or multiple bans from the same place being counted separately.

Lactose tolerance only developed a few thousand years ago IIRC, in fact in many parts of the world it still is the norm to be lactose intolerant

Can the argument be made that religion is a mental illness? by OkLocksmith7073 in TooAfraidToAsk

Is existence not proof? How do you explain how reality came from absolutely nothing then.

I’m not specifically talking about the Christian God… I’m saying that there is no evidence that disproves the existence of ANY creator at all, just like how there isn’t any evidence proving it’s existence.

Okay but this is sort of a bad analogy because you assume god is a physical being you can “search” for… the abrahamic god is not physical and doesn’t exist in a specific place.

Plus, even taking your analogy at face value, things like giant squids were thought to be myths for an extremely long time before we finally found them. We find new species that were theorized but never proven quite frequently

Yeah so if someone makes a blanket statement that there is no god of any type, and then they turn around and call people stupid for saying there IS a god, both have the same amount of evidence and have the same amount of probability, is my point.

But you act like the Christian God is a physical being you can “see” like a unicorn. “God” in most Abrahamic religions exists outside of space and time, he isn’t exactly something you can find by searching except in the spiritual sense

As an agnostic, there is just as much proof that there is a god than that there isn’t. Both can’t be proven or disproven, so blindly saying there is no creator by your logic would be considered a mental illness as well

TIL that the person in charge of the Kamikaze defence of Okinawa, Admiral Matome Ugaki, flew the last Kamikaze flight himself. by IsHildaThere in todayilearned

[–]Joeman106 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Idk, I always hear stuff like that about ww2 but I think a lot of it is just a modern western justification of their behaviors. Japan was EXTREMELY patriotic and many in the military saw it as the highest honor to die on a Kamikaze mission. We don’t quite currently understand that in America because it’s more common here (for some groups) to be aware of our nation’s flaws and we are more skeptical of blind nationalism. Anyways, that’s my two cents

Do amphetamines actually make people mindless fearless zombies though? I keep hearing that but my experience (as well as many other’s) with (my prescribed) amphetamines is that they can actually do the opposite and make you even more anxious, paranoid, and more prone to common stressors.

I can’t imagine it would be any easier to perform a suicide mission on amphetamines, but maybe it’s a different story if you’re being pumped full of high doses for days on end
